Whenever I boot up SF2 HDremix and hear the awesome guitar synth rawk song, I wanna fight and KILL something. Whenever I boot up SF4 I just wanna kill the stupid boyband.
the 3S arcade hiphop intro is also great, feels really gritty.
I love Chun Li’s Alpha remix with the Herbie Hancock-ish Fender Rhodes, and her theme remix “The Missing Link” on one of the ST soundtracks, done in the style of “Letter From Home” era Pat Metheny Group.

Your right about sakura’s theme. The original alpha2’s is still the best. Though PuzzleFighters is pretty good too.
EX really was amazing, from the snippets I heard. I enjoyed the original Sakura theme as well.
Now to find how to track these CDs down… last time I went to Japan, I bought the X-Men vs. Street Fighter soundtrack, but I don’t think I’ll be going again anytime soon!

As you can see, I think 2nd Impact hands down has the best music in any fighting game.
I’m glad everyone seemed to like the list and offered up plenty of other nominations.
Apologies to those who were hoping for 2nd Impact themes (confession time: I’m not that familiar with the 2i soundtrack, I’ve never played the game).
It’s hard to pick out of the others because I think SF2 definitely had the best soundtrack in the SF series. Nearly every theme matched the character and their stage. Don’t really like any of the remixes though.
SFA2 probably had the next best among actual SF games. I think SF3 series had the worst and not just out of the SF games either.
