Yeah, how dare they put ads on when theres no matches!.. And how dare they make money from their hard work!
That’s fair enough and I obviously appreciate the effort to provide a quality stream for all international viewers etc…but at the same time I have to ask how come other (big) tournaments and games have streams without a constant flood of commercials? There is a big difference between “commercial every 30minutes” / “every 5minutes”. I don’t see why it would be drastically more expensive to organize a live stream for Shadowloo Showdown f.e or does Rio Hotel charge 10k for the internet?
This is the cynic in me but the way I see it : The event organizers knew that Evolution was going to draw in more viewers and as a result they saw an opportunity to make some extra cash. Nothing inherently bad with that but the quality suffers from it a bit…
Your acting as if FG tournaments are a big cash cow for producers no doubt they make money but not no where near as much as your thinking though. Then again I don’t have figures so I can’t say much but I just don’t think they make that much cause of FG’s only now starting to get massive and it’s still got a long way to go.
Yeah I understand it goes to adverts inbetween but at least your not missing matches they mostly put it on when they don’t have anything going on. On top of that it really wasn’t after every match I did see some times there weren’t any adverts at all it was just plain talking and chatting about the match after.
The starcraft 2 stream is even worse. You have to pay 35 dollars to watch in HD for live tournaments games. If you dont pay you just get a low tournament stream thats lag 90% of the time the tournament is going on.
The street fighter stream is free every time in every day in every year! So what the heck is there to complain about??? If you dont like the stupid chat then just ignore it. I miss alot of great starcraft 2 live tournaments because I refuse to pay 35 dollars to watch it in HD.
the stream is free, and free beats nothing. I think my chat got disabled because I paid no attention to it for so long, why small things like these bother people is beyond me.
Never understood how when a moderator or something makes a rule you can’t just follow it, also they’re not telling you to just keep buying stuff, just having the commercial play is a good way to get the people spending time and money on the stream a bit more to keep doing this, seriously the quality overall this year has been amazing.
My only gripe is Ustream (Jtv fanboy myself) and even then it still greatly surpassed my expectations.
I’ve enjoyed it so I don’t feel I should complain, I’ll just say that advertising is a significantly bigger part of the event than what has come before and it is noticeable.
It’s my first evo watch and I have loved it. Ads can be a bit annoying but they gotta get their money to fund the thing somewhere. More annoyed about the amount of yuns
I definitely think this is partly a cultural issue. In the UK we get advert breaks every 12-13 minutes on TV. When I went to the US I noticed that there were advert breaks every 5-6 minutes. I guess Americans are more willing to put up with adverts. To be expected in the home of capitalism I guess. But I just don’t like it. I find adverts annoying, especially when they’re so frequent. I accept that the money to run the event has to come from somewhere and if they’re not charging subscriptions that revenue will have to come largely from adverts, but I think this year the content/adverts balance has gone too far in the direction of adverts.
Know what you mean. I live in the uk also and we get a lot less ads than u.s and if I had to view that amount on a regular basis, I would go nuts. It got in the way if the commentary which can be very interesting and enlightening(for me anyway) but because it was my first one I didn’t have a contrast to previous
