Tokyo Game Action presents: TGA Ranking Battle - Team HATE vs Team CANADA! (1-6-07)

Justin your canada pride is too much. We all know Eric is good theres no need to brag about his skills to everybody. DSP always ask’s about people but he never played cvs2 seriously enough to know all the players. Ill money match for 20 bucks or something. Also ill play jiggabry for some low amount cause i dont really play the game serious. I hope you guys know nobody really plays mvc2 hardcore over here.

Keep it up Justin

I said 50.

gavin lets do 5 on 5 on friday cuz i cant make the sat tourny son!

Uh… I’ll have to pass on that one on behalf of the GTASF. We’ll have just come in from an 7 - 8 hour drive and hadn’t even sat down and got adjusted to the sticks yet. The reason I suggested a Team Tournament was because they’re fun and there’s no real pressure to perform. Our guys could at least get through the adjustment period.

i feel u man. Aight good luck team h8. For the record im 7 - 0 on bets vs canda:rofl:

yo i’ll jump on that team hate 3rd strike issh.

I like how first theres a reference to ECC results that were held on one broken CvS2 cabinet (notice that didn’t happen when I ran ECC last year?) and then when Nestor calls people out for money matches, somehow MvC2 gets into the mix?

WTF? That’s the lamest attempt at diverting the topic that I’ve ever seen.

Can we be real here? Nobody is playing MvC2 competitively anymore besides 1. NYC and 2. a few people on the West Coast. Period. The hype is done. Every ECC it’s the same 20 people from NYC, the same 10 from Philly, and 20 or so random people who enter. IT NEVER CHANGES! At TGA MvC2 isn’t even taken seriously. Besides the fact that it’s on a japanese cab and you CAN’T PLAY MARVEL ON JAPANESE CONTROLS PERIOD, everyone is always busy with Third Strike and CvS2. These two games have taken over the US Street Fighter scene and there’s no way you can really argue about this.

Now I’m sorry that I guess some people in Canada are really taking Marvel seriously, but I think you’re coming to the wrong place if you want comp in that game. Nestor and I honestly have not been taking Marvel seriously in ages and I have now OFFICIALLY retired from the game. RETIRED. I have never retired from a game in my entire life until MvC2. I just recognized the game wasn’t advancing at all, it was the same tired and boring shit over and over and unless you fucking meditate with the game for years to get your reactions and motions down completely perfectly, you can’t even hang with half the people in NYC these days. Marvel is probably the fighting game with the SIMPLEST gameplay out there; you don’t have to think, you just have to REACT, and you win. And that’s complete garbage to me.

The only person that I know of that even takes Marvel seriously anymore in Team Hate is Tony B. If you want to set something up with him, you’re all welcome to try. But I’ve never known him to take a money match in all the years I’ve known him. Other people like Paul wall and Juice play it, but I haven’t seen them give a real crap about it in ages. The game is dead, at least at TGA and with the majority of Team Hate. To be completely honest, I don’t know why we’re even doing the MvC2 team thing vs Canada because as far as I know, nobody really cares.

SO let’s get back on topic please. If you want to talk smack about JS Master beating Nestor in CvS2, let’s set up a bet that isn’t on the broken ass Break cabinet. And stop diverting the attention to shitty games we don’t play and don’t care about! PERIOD!

hahahaha damn, this thread is getting BEASTLY with the bets and trash talking!

But heres my opinion on teams for:

CvS2

  1. Nestor
  2. Paul Wall
  3. T Rexxxx
  4. Ernest
  5. if smooth and min doesn’t show up, then we can have a quick round robin!

SFIII:3s

  1. Da Wall
  2. Jjuice
  3. Nestor
  4. Da Will
  5. if smooth doesn’t show up, then we can have a quick round robin again!

MvC2

  1. Tony Barnage
  2. Jjuice
  3. Da Wall
  4. Nestor
  5. DS FUCKING P! SHUT UP AND PLAY!

I think that sounds reasonably well rounded for Team TGA/H8, dont ya think? :wonder:

I said 20, but… JS Master vs Nestor in CVS2 I’ll take for $50!

Gavin: Your teams are pretty much correct exept for the followin.
You forgot to include DSP in the 3s teams and yourself in CVS.

Yeah Seriously Phil … SUAP!

Gavin: Who do I have to kick in the sack to get a feed for Melty Blood?

Also, make it one day unless you plan on letting people crash on the couches at TGA overnight. :V

KoreanDJ: You posted this in the MB:AC thread, but I’m guessing the match was planned for this ranbat. I’m going to refuse it on general principle (I don’t play money matches regardless, because I am a nit).

Chibi: Given who I know is showing up for MB:AC, you won’t make top 3. Also, die in a fire plzkthx.

if we are doing marvel why dont we just do st also. its making a comeback

Hardly. I poked a little fun at Nestor and he flew off the handle with $500 money matches. It’s really easy to throw around large figures when you’re already the odds on favourite to win.

As for the CvS2 cab at ECC9, I don’t know where this broken sticks situation came from. I taped that entire top 16 and played on that cabinet numerous times over that weekend and no one complained about broken sticks. If they did, I sure as hell would have it on tape and I sure as hell would have heard about it from the four other Canadian players who qualified.

I don’t know where you got those figures from. Your own ECC drew 70+ so I’d say you’re missing a few heads but that’s neither here nor there. You can’t really speak for the scene as it concerns MvC2. It still draws strong numbers across North America, and consistently outdraws CvS2 (which you seem to think is sweeping the nation, that’s news to me). I can’t argue the expansion of 3S and never would attempt to. As for jap cabinets and Marvel, in case no one knows, the GTASF plays at Orbit on Vs Cabinets. We play Marvel just fine thanks so while some people may not have adjusted to the jap cabinet, it’s closed minded to say you can’t play Marvel on jap sticks.

If there’s no real Marvel scene in TGA then this trip may not even be worth the while. I’m attempting to put together a strong team across multiple games. It’d be a waste of money for players who specialize in MvC2 like Jiggabry and Gerjay to make an eight hour drive for a single day tournament for a game that may or may not get any real play. At least now I know this ahead of time before I put real effort into assembling people.

On a side note, we don’t play ST in Toronto. We haven’t played ST competitively since ST first came out. We have like three ST specialists and they are all very much retired and won’t be coming out for anything. I really don’t want to talk about ST any further. It’s a waste of time.

I don’t remember mentioning ST anywhere in my post…

As for marvel, yes I am going to be honest here, if you are bringing players exclusively to play that game and the trip is going to be time consuming and costly, I would probably advise against it. MvC2 is not a “serious game” at TGA and we don’t have any real top players besides Tony B. However if these gamers want to come and have a good time, get some laughs, and also play other games like 3s and CvS2 which are our top 2 games (I’m leaving out ST for myself since you asked me to) then I would recommend getting as many people to come down as possible.

Also your argument about marvel, although you may see a “big picture” kind of thing, is very skewed. First of all, ECC is THE major for mvc2, period. Everyone knows this. And at the largest major for mvc2 in the country, we only got 70 players. This is a far cry from the 200+ ECC was getting just a few years ago. This game is going down in flames on a rapid basis and losing serious players left and right. Most of the people who were around when the game was new have completely moved on to other things and/or other games entirely.

Since you’re coming to New England, I guess I should explain the state of things here. There are basically a few places still holding it down and having local tournaments every few weeks/months. One is TGA in Mass; another is GDT in New Jersey; and the third is Chinatown Fair in NYC. Out of all of these events, TGA always has small marvel tournaments but except for the low tier event held a month or two ago, the headcount rarely breaks 16 and the gameplay is hardly “top tier.” GDT has yet to hold a marvel event. And the past two MvC2 locals to be held at Chinatown, the CENTRAL POINT OF MVC2 FOR THIS ENTIRE HALF OF THE COUNTRY, were cancelled due to lack of interest. People literally walked off and went to see movies and eat instead of playing.

This is the state of MvC2 right now in the northeast of the US. Maybe it’s different in Florida and Virginia and Texas and Cali and Canada (although I went to a Virginia tournament just a month or so ago and nobody came at all) but HERE, MvC2 is VERY rapidly losing interest as a serious tournament game. Don’t get me wrong here, people like myself and Nestor and Tony B enter events simply because there is a high chance that we will break top 3 and get some cash out it. But none of us are practicing MvC2 at all and none of us are going to practice for this Team Hate vs Canada event. MvC2 is a joke game for 95% of us and we’re not going to start taking it seriously again anytime soon.

So the bottom line is, Team Hate and TGA would love to have Team Canada come down. Have some fun, share some games, some food, and get in some GOOD matches in 3s and CvS2. But if you are really in the mindset of getting Marvel-exclusive players to come down and drop a bunch of money and time, I think you are going to be disappointed overall.

EDIT: In reference to playing on cabinets at the Break, it is WIDELY accepted in the US gaming scene that besides MvC2, those cabinets are complete ass. Sticks get installed at angles, buttons don’t work properly, and all around those cabinets are a horrible gaming experience. Probably because these are the same cabinets used since the first ECC and they have never been rewired…just like at CTF…because the days of real arcades are going down the shitter. I RAN ECC last year and I have to admit that those cabinets for MvC2 and ST were complete ass simply because 1. controls were not installed properly or 2. the cabinets simply refused to work properly for some unknown reason. I would have to protest that the reason your Canadian players seemed to do so well on the sticks is because they are not all A-groove players…it is nearly impossible to consistently roll cancel or do an A-groove combo on the Break CvS2 cab, period. But I could be wrong as well. But take it from people who have played at the Break since day 1, those cabinets are ASS.

Phil Just killed it.

Oh and JS Master is an A-groove player.

team h8 needs cockman back to fill in all missing spots on the team tourneys

 So’s Veasna (who came third)

Bet it then.

If I don’t make top 3 then I’ll give you $10.

If I do then you don’t have to give me shit.

How’s that sound?

Because if your ‘people’ aren’t Vic and Saiyd then I don’t give a shit.

cockman who the fuck is that

Just to let everyone know so people wont start freaking out…

Nagata and I had a discussion last night about this event and what would be in the best interest of both parties. Nagata is going to talk with his Canadian gamers and see if he can convince more 3s/CvS2 players to come since those are our primary SF games. I just didn’t want Canada to show up with a 10-man Marvel team to find out that Team Hate really doesn’t give a crap about Marvel. I mean we’re more than willing to play a few games and have some fun with it, but I think it will be more beneficial and challenging for people who play 3s and CvS2 to come to TGA rather than coming expecting top-level MvC2 comp. We are far more serious in 3s/CvS2 than anything else and we undoubtedly have some of the top players from the entire COUNTRY in those games coming to TGA events, so it only makes sense that he builds up his Canadian team around that premise rather than expecting MvC2 to be some big thing.

More info to come on this, but this event is starting to heat up already…
