How many damn ads does SRK need really?
I look at it this way: as parasitic consumers we shouldn’t be complaining. It’s a free forum that didn’t cost any of you anything to sign up for and doesn’t ask for a dime in return. If you wish to donate you do get a few perks (though they ARE diminishing, I will admit), but every single one of you non-premium members are just leeches who give hardly anything back in return… just mindlessly consuming bit after bit of bandwidth and server space while demanding more and more for free.
Web sites cost money. Large ones cost a lot of money. SRK is one of the largest forums on the internet, having over 42,000 members. 2500 people are on the site right now! I don’t even want to think about how much money this site costs. So let them run ads, because they need to figure out how to pay for the site.
Yes, I think it can be run a little better. Yes, I think there have been some unwise decisions made lately. But I’ll never fault them for trying to figure out ways to make the site break even, or even make a little money.
Any of you people bitching about ads who haven’t given a cent to the site? Shut the fuck up. Seriously. You’re still freeloading. Give $3, then complain.

You’re missing the point. Say someone gave you free cupcakes for a year, and then decided to cut down on the size of the cupcakes because it’s starting to cost them money. Should you complain about that? Doesn’t that make you look a bit ungrateful? You’re still getting free cupcakes! You’re lucky you even got what you did thus far. You are entitled to nothing in this world. NOTHING. Anything you get for free is a luxury, whether it’s free cupcakes, a handjob, or information from a forum.
Personally, I think srk should go to a paid membership thing like Something Awful, where you pay a fee ONCE and are entitled to all of the information there. They tried taking donations (premium membership) but it’s just not cutting it anymore. Granted, they’ve been taking things away from prems, but just because it’s been getting abused (like rep, which I miss dearly). God I miss neg-repping Arson and watching him go ballistic about it… good times, man… good times.

I understand what you are saying and i fully agree with you. I have no problem relearning the game or anything like that. My beef with the game is that since the damage is too high and the game IS so much scrub friendlier meaning that harder to do combos are so much more accessible to everyone now that the damage and x-factor just breaks the flow and fun of the game to me. I’m all for making combos easier to do so more ppl can get into the game but when you have scrubs doing a basic l,m,h,s,sj m,m,h,s, x-factor super and character is almost dead to me it’s just plain stupid and retarded. So unless they change the damage and shit in this game i just can’t see myself even remotely taking this game serious whatsoever. It’s fun granted but only to an extent. As for sf4 my dislikes for the game are strictly personal and nothing more. I don’t hate the game or anything but i’m just not a fan of it, to me the game is boring and i don’t take it serious because i just don’t care to,i respect the game and what it has done for the community and despite what other ppl may say about how scrubby it is the fact still remains that it takes skill to be good at it and win tournaments. So with that said i will still play mvc3 but just for the hell of it and nothing more unless they seriously patch this shit up which i doubt they will. Till then i will focus more on tekken because i know tekken is going to teach me some fundamentals that will help me with other fighting games.
So if anyone can bring a ps3 with a copy of tekken 6 that would be great since i wanna play and need to get good at it. We can use my tv for it.

Last I heard it’s around $1,200/mo. Something Awful has three times the members, and their expenses are around $3,500/mo, so that’s not too unrealistic. I think the site should be free to browse, but if you want to post you should pony up a $10 ONE-TIME registration fee that goes towards site costs. I don’t think the proceeds from EVO are quite enough any more.
