wacom intuos a5, you really don’t need anything bigger than that if you don’t have a mega big screen
Wacom is the only brand of tablet anyone should get.
I think 6x8 is a good size.
Update: Gradient tool
- make a new layer on top of your character layer and press apple g.
2.Press shift+g to change from paint bucket to grad tool. Select two colors from the color selector on the left hand side. I just chose a warm and cool grad. - Fill it in on the new layer you made above your character layer.
- Right under your layer should be a tab. It is set on normal as default, but you can choose other options. I chose overlay just for fun. Feel free to experiment.
- done. This is what the grad overlay effect looks like.
- Don’t like certain sections? Erase out with the eraser tool with airbrush for softer edges. I just did a random erse just for an example.

that’s a hot idea, SFMC. great contribution!
personally I’d prefer using a layer mask to hide areas instead of deleting them permanently… I like to be able to undo things I’ve done
cool tut. Pretty useful now that I see the application for it. You should record yourself in painter like Khang Le did.
woot. Just figure this out. Snapshots.
Basically in the history tab, you click the snap shot button on the bottom next to the trashcan. I forgot to include that part when I cropped. When you take a snapshot, PS will create a save state w/in your document so you can go back to it with the click of a button. I guess it’s useful for switching between different filters quickly. When you close the document, you lose the snapshots though. would be great if you dont lose the snapshots.

Here I just made some color filters.
i could really use some pointers on eye-shading
also i would like to promote the hot girl threads in IMM as a good reference resource. And since they dont have much clothes you get a good idea of the body structure ;).
any tips on using masks? Whats the easiest way to make them? Also tips on backgrounds would be awesome. Thanks guys everything so far has been very helpful. Oh yeah the look Im going for with my stuff is something like hyung tae kim, the guy who did the art for the game Magna Carta.
neoBlood what do you watn do know about bg’s exactly? thats kind of a broad subject. but good knowledge of linier and atmosphere perspective helps alot so study those.
as far as eye shading, imagine its a sphear in a socket with skin wrapped over it. you can move the eye deeper or closer to the surface to get the feel you want.
A layer mask allows you to hide part of (or even all of) a layer.
This is quite a basic tutorial, but it covers the essentials (including using Quick Masks)
http://www.webreference.com/graphics/column23/
I mainly use masks usually when I want to extract a part of an image, without permanently removing any pixel data (which the Extract function would do).
Quickest way would be to make a selection (using Marquee / Lasso tool / Pen / Quick Mask / Magic Wand / etc) and then Layer > Add Layer Masks, at which point you have a choice to (1) Hide your selection, or (2) Reveal your selection. Choose the appropriate option and voila, you’ve masked your image.
You can then tweak your mask by using the Brush tool to paint on the layer mask (it’s the small box to the right of your layer preview thumbnail). You can tell which one you’re working on by a white outline around the active box. You’ll be painting in either black or white, which will either remove or add to your mask layer and as a result reveal/hide more of the masked layer.
hmm… methinks my explanation is a tad confusing, just check out the link first and try it out.
hey guys I did this sketch using my tablet. Ive got the sketch on one layer and the lines on another and I just dont know how I want to color it. Any tips or suggestions on how I should do it? I want to stay away from just the basic cell style cuz I did that on that Sol I drew and it came out ok, but just a little boring. Anyway here it is:

Does anyone have some tips on Prismacolors pencils?DA GAME has been experimenting & would like to give his drawings that crisp look
What’s a good value priced (Cheap) tablet?
dont know how cheap you are talking, I got mine for 200 dollars but I love it. Check out www.newegg.com and I think their cheapest one is like 60-95 dollars or something. Mine is the Wacom Intuos3 4x5. I was feeling saucy and just went to Circuit City and picked it up.
Go expressionist on it.
jokes aside, Hyung Tae-Kim’s style would probably work fine since Ky is bishounen and all.
or figure out a style of your own

Hey, does anyone have any tips/links on male & female hair? Its been giving me a hard time lately.
start with drawing lines with big low opacity/hardness brushes, and work yourself up with smaller brushes and higher opacity/hardness.
