also by the way… My friend some how got both Dante and Vergil into Trigger mode and had them as assists. I immediately made a face book stat saying;
Only problem with those two is that they kind of play together like brothers that are rivals. Vergil needs a lot of meter to really come alive. The problem is that Dante has a lot of reason to use the meter as well. If you’re willing to use Dante more as a battery, than yeah they could have great synergy. Both will need an affect zoning assist for cover tho.
Thats why I may be dropping Vergil because of the meter! I would rather have XF oroboros with Strider.
I couldn’t work with Dante in vanilla, but messing around with him in training/mission modes today, I feel that I can main him pretty well now that his specials don’t require an additional motion and is now just an extra button. Another character I feel very comfortable using is Akuma. Any tips on a team that revolves around Dante/Akuma? I really like Strider and Iron Fist, but not sure if he would go well with the other two…
So I dunno about you guys but as of late I’ve been having a ton of success with Dante on crystal assist… The assist comes out slightly faster now so it’s otg works great with a few character(Mmmm Vergil) and its big enough to anti air as well as cross up and all lead to free combos with minimal scaling. I used to swear by jam session and occasionally use weasel shot for wesker but I’m LOVING crystal now

This. Vergil and Dante truly are brothers and it shows in how well they compliment each other. Idk why everyone thinks Vergil’s such a meter hog when he can build a bar in one BnB and deal about 500k without assists or hyper and go for a mix up or grab at the end of it easily. Literally any of Dante’s assist compliment Vergil’s game. The same goes for Vergil’s assists, especially when DT’d.One of my fun squads is Vergil (Judgement cut)/ Dante (Crystal)/ Taskmaster (f. arrows). Task is really tacked on for the extra health and cover fire since I really don’t seem to like any beam assist chars in Ultimate =\
Dante with actual use-able assist options this time around is quite the cornerstone for a team now and I couldn’t be happier. My ol’ mains still got it
This may sound weird, but I really like Thor’s Mighty Smash assist to go with Dante. Maybe one of you guys should try it and give your thoughts on it. Mighty Smash > Launcher is just awesome. However, once you’re left with just Thor, you’re gonna have a tough time winning.
Well it seems one of my questions is already answered as far as Vergil & Dante are concerned.
Now, since Doom was sorta buffed and he is probably going to be a little more prominent on teams, would it still be fine to use an alpha Taskmaster assist on anchor to backup Dante? His arrows seem pretty powerful still, but I just don’t know how it compares to drones & beams in Ultimate yet. I like Task in general in tandem with Dante, since they can easily swap places and still maintain some sort of really strong keepaway/zoning that can quickly change into close combat.
For any reference, my team itself is Deadpool/Dante/Task–I’ve seen a lot of mentions in this thread about the various characters used together, but with Ultimate around I want to ensure I won’t be getting salty and stressed over some more powerful combinations, heh.
Doom’s beam assist is good on ANY team. It seriously goes with anything just because of how fast it is, and how it tears through other projectiles. Honestly though, given the team you’re running I’d say you’re more of a keep away orientated team as far as my experience with and against a Deadpool/Dante combination. I’d say throw Sent on the end with drones. The drones provide the projectile that Dante can use for mix ups and with Deadpool’s guns and drones you can set up a pretty nice full screen lockdown that just results in oodles and oodles of chip or damage taken by the opponent.
I haven’t really used Akuma since Vanilla, but in Vanilla Wesker/Dante/Akuma was possibly the strongest/most OP combination in the game. From what I can tell none of the characters really got nerfed aside from Akuma’s tatsu which I hear is still pretty good.
I spent a good chunk of last night experimenting around, and I found Strider with Gram assist works pretty well with Dante, not to mention I’ve learned to play him pretty decently too. Gram has wall bounce so it can help set up for Dante’s many BnBs. Dante with Jam Session compliments Strider nicely too, it keeps the opponent in the air long enough to end a combo with his Ragnarok lvl3 if you decide to OTG with Strider’s ground slide attack.
If you’re gonna run Strider, I say go Vajra it’s definitely his best assist. Also, this way you don’t use the wall bounce Dante needs for his BnB’s.
Hmm, I’ll give that a try in a bit. Any suggestions for the third character to round out the team? As much as I like using Akuma, I don’t feel that he flows well with Dante/Strider. He’s a beast on his own though, but seeing as how this game relies on teamwork, I’d much prefer a third that can compliment the other two better.
What would make you think he doesn’t flow well with Dante/Strider. Akuma flows well with anybody that has a teleport period. Call tatsu assist port is going to be hella strong with both of those characters so I see pretty much zero reason to not put him on the team. He provides the exact type of assist that both of those characters love to teleport around and lock down with and it only really got nerfed if you use it after long combos. Tatsu assist for mix ups and starting combos is basically the same dumb shit and provides you an assist that’s invincible to standard projectiles. The only thing you need to do with Akuma for him to add a lot to your team is get in and mash on A2 before you port or rush in for pressure.
On top of that he has a beam super which makes sure you’ll be able to land his super off of DHC’s very easily. Plus he’s even better of an anchor now with air XF and being able to use demon flips in the air.
Hmm, shows how much I know about the characters then lol. Sorry about that. So I’m guessing it’s safe to say Dante w/ Jam Session, Strider w/ Vajra, and Akuma w/ Tatsu is a pretty solid team?
Any suggestions for a Marvel character in that lineup though? I’d probably like to mix it up a bit and throw in someone from the Marvel side.
Nah don’t worry. I was just trying to state that it’s pretty much a reality that Akuma assist is still just as strong as it was in Vanilla for characters with teleports or command dashes.
Doom or Magneto would easily work in the back. Both are solid anchors (Magneto a bit easier to use) and both provide great beam assists. Doom’s beam is better for more advance block string based mix ups but Magneto gives you another full screen beam that doesn’t scale as much and you can just easy mode call and port and get something out of.
Sounds good, I’ll give Dante/Strider/Magneto a shot tomorrow then. I assume his assist should be EMP Disruptor?
Also, to the person who told me to use Strider’s Vajra assist, in what ways would that be beneficial to Dante? I played around with that a bit today and it didn’t work too well for me lol.
Think of it like Haggar’s assist in Vanilla, it’s a good get off of me move when you’re being pressured, and it causes a hard knockdown which works wonders for Dante. Also, it tracks anywhere on the screen so it’s pretty much a free hit on the opponent whenever you think they’ll throw something out full screen. You can honestly just spam it and get good results.
Ah, I see why I couldn’t find a use for it then, I was messing around in training lol. I see where you’re coming from now, I’ll try it out in some real matches and see how it goes.
In the combo thread a guy posted a few combos with Dante using Strider’s Vajra assist, you could always check those out.
