yo deviljin, I saw your about a hour of your matches, I really like your team, and your abuse of hammer, great ideas.

Thx…yeah it took me a while to put that team together and it’s kind of a variation of the team Buktooth used to use. Well the only thing that’s similar really is Doom with plasma beam assist and I really liked the high durability and full horizontal length coverage of the beam. Pretty solid for Wesker mix ups at the time. After seeing the DHC glitch become popular I moved on to the only DHC glitch starter that looked interesting which was X-23 and then saw how 10 stars was using her and Dante together and threw Dante in there. I was going to use Dante and X-23 originally but I heard they were hard to play so I started slow with easier characters. I then realized how well both of them work with Doom’s beam and really started putting stuff together. X-23 I found out actually played quite a bit like a mix of Ibuki/Cammy so I got into her really fast and she’s easily my favorite character now with Dante a close second.

The block strings to mix ups you can create with beam assist are really nasty. I prefer people to block it than actually get hit by it because when you combine it with stinger you basically get almost full screen block strings that set up a high/low, then usually another left/right air dash mix up after. Landing an attack during those mix ups nets you full damage instead of the scaled beam damage and are pretty immune to advance guard also.

I read up in the strategy guide about the importance of hammer and how it had 15 frames invincibility and was like “wow that’s fucking good”. Though I’ve also been trying to use it in mix ups and use the frame advantage on block to set up air dash mix ups lately.

Pretty sure it works. I’ve done this a couple of times. Fun fact about stinger is that if they pushblock a bit late, you’ll teleport in front of them, allowing you to airdash forward J.H for a real ambiguous crossup and throw tech OS if they try to grap you.

can people play dante on xbox 360 pad, I couldn’t use my ps3 controller, and I just thought it was impossible. I couldn’t bold cancel anything, so I just use wesker instead for tournament, lol

I can’t do anything on pad anymore. Used to use Sega Saturn pad but that was like 8 years ago.

I play Dante and Zero exclusively on the 360 pad. I also learned how to play on the PS3 pad because for some unknown reason, TOs are still using it for Marvel despite the terrible framedrops.

You can do pretty much anything on a pad

Talking about matchups, I’ve been having success against phoenix on a snap doing nothing, waiting for her to airdash up back or super jump and salty ball H. You can reaction teleport airgrab, and since it’s a teleport and not a super jump install, you can call assists and combo off it. Experiment with your teams and see what you can do.

I use both Magneto and Dante with a PS3 pad and do just fine. I can do all of Magneto’s loops consistently (except the ROM) and I can pull off all of Dante’s advanced moves.

No offense, but from what I’ve read I really feel like the majority of your posts should be in the general discussion thread. This way, it keeps the threads more organized and people who are looking specifically for match up/team building information don’t have to read through a bunch of randomness trying to find information.

So I posted this in the ammy and storm forums but decided I might as well post it here to get input from all 3 forums(plus Im more likely to get an answer here since this forum is more active)

I was wondering, how do y’all use the cold star assist(if you do)? I mean I noticed after a few casuals at my local gather that I barely actually use the assist on my team(dante/storm/ammy) and the few times I do she gets blown up. I mean when I watch someone using like tatsu, they go cr . :l: :l:, tatsu and then proceed to mix em up from there, or(when playing storm) super jump float assist call and work from there, or with dante st. :h: teleport tatsu. Other than the dante set-up I can’t really think of any that would work as effectively with cold star.

So how would y’all use ammy on a team like that to 1. Use the assist to help my offense and 2. properly protect the assist from getting blown up. Also do y’all know any like traps or set-ups that might be available to my team using the assist? I hate to seem like Im letting other people do my work for me, but I honeslty cannot think of anything. Thank you.

When I was using Ammy for cold star her assist served 2 purposes

#1 Mixup Obviously,
:m:, :h: + Assist, xx Air Trick is the crossup.
:m: + Assist, :h: xx Air Trick Keeps them in block stun which sets up IAD j.:h: and j. :s: xx Hammer (can be replaced with stinger xx BC Air Trick then falling j.:h:Magic seiries them into the Cold Star then BC AD j :h:)

#2 Combo off Air Throw
Air Throw Assist + Mash :h: Hammer the last hit of Cold Star

Hope that helped a Little. Cold Start is a great lockdown tool, you just need to be very careful when Call Ammy since she takes forever to come out =/.

Main Reason I had dropped her was the scaling but i think i may pick her back up till umvc3 Working on some silly Ammy Dante Resets that i think will be pretty good.

I don’t like ammy assist for Dante that much. He is more reliant on left/right than high/lows and left rights don’t work when the other guy is stuck in blockstun.

That said, there’s some cool trick tricks you can do with ammy assist.

Stuff>Cold Star lockdown>Acid rain= by the time cold star is done, there is a gap before the rain falls back and you can set up a l/r. kinda tight timing

assist extensions= coldstar is easily one of the best assist extensions in the game.

making some links easier= Some people have trouble with the charge shot>stinger link. Ammy helps with that since you can simply do charge shots>ammy>J.S>Hammer>stuff.

resets= tons of resets possibilities here. Cold Shower>Call Dog> dash under or not, teleport, blabbla

However, ammy does allow a cool dhc glitch>hard tag combo that builds lotsa meter. I only played her like 5 times though so some of the stuff might be a little bit off. You should watch Ryan Hunter play, I think he plays Dante/Ammy

Can someone tell me why most tournament player dantes and tournament players period don’t use beam assist.

I’ve only seen one other Dante player from NY that’s used Dante + Doom beam specifically.

It’s just the whole thing of the current meta game revolving around rushdown so it’s easier to just pick Akuma or Haggar, face roll on teleports, abuse hard knockdown OTGs, profit. When Wolverine can just do a random special move to clear through all of your zone…it kinda makes sense to just pick Haggar instead.

I was going to pick Doom from before the game came out so I guess it worked out that it’s what I used. I love how doom beam allows you to use hysteric way more often and makes Dante’s ground throw game a lot better. With Doom beam you can get hysterics on the screen all over the place safely to give you a lot of safe left right mix ups. I pretty much never do an assistless teleport anymore unless it’s some desperation port to get past a Mag beam or something. With the ground throw it allows free full screen 50/50 basically by forcing the opponent to roll up into full screen beam when you teleport. If they block the wrong way…combo into profit.

Stinger + beam gives a lot of nasty block string mix ups that can’t be advance guarded that set up unscaled combos.

Could you expand on this a little more? I’m unsure on how this tactic allows for safe left right mix-ups. I do see that it’s great for controlling the screen, however.

I need help with timing this. I can’t see how to time this mix-up to give the desired effect. What cues should I be looking/listening for to start the mix-up after ground throw?

I’ve seen xray use magneto’s beam assist, it looks pretty effective.

I have a lot of different videos on my youtube page (in my sig) that can show it off but watching this whole video will give you the best example of different things I use. I basically use beam+hysteric and sometimes + devil trigger to get safe left/rights with teleport. That is pretty much the whole basis of Dante is setting up teleport mix ups that the opponent can’t air throw punish. I rarely ever do a teleport without hysteric, multi lock, doom beam on the screen first. Devil Trigger cancel after doing hysteric or multi lock makes the mix up even safer.

Doom beam assist allows you to get Dante’s heavy start up tracking projectiles on the screen much more easily and from a range that standard offensive assists aren’t capable of. Hysteric and multi lock are his special moves that set up the safe ports. The whole point is to find an assist that can safely cover the long start up of these moves and port after. A beam that travels the entire screen is great for this purpose since it can set up these specials from near anywhere on screen. If you don’t have a fast horizontal projectile that covers a lot of screen space then you’re kinda forced to run in and teleport with the assist when you get close enough. Either that or hysteric or multi lock and spend a meter to super cancel into DT then port. That is why most random Dantes online almost never use hysteric or multi lock. They have no assist that covers the start up so its too risky and they stick to naked ports with less mix up potential.

After you throw, call Doom beam right before the point where they can roll up then teleport just when they roll up. Even if they block it you get a free air dash high/low that they can’t advance guard you away from.

I’m a little confused about what assist to use for my team. I currently run She-Hulk (a)/Dante (a)/Dormammu (a). I just feel like none of these assists truly benefit She-Hulk. She can’t do much of anything combo-wise with Jam Session, and Dark Hole is a pretty bad assist in general. My team has good DHC synergy, and I’m winning like crazy, so I just gotta get this little “my assists don’t work at all” thing straightened out. What Dante assist should I be using? I like Jam Session for its corner lockdown, specifically when a new character comes in, but if they actually get hit, She-Hulk can’t combo after it! :rofl: So should I maybe change to Weasel Shot? Or just stick it out with Jam Session and take advantage of its space control? Leaning toward Weasel Shot, can be easily swayed…
