I respect Fanatiq, and I have the distinct feeling that he has his Marvel hyper persona and keeps it separate from his everyday self.
Regarding OBD, he picked a setup that gave him the edge and buffed the strong point of his game, which is solid and fast rushdown. The OBD helps him be surgical with his trijumps and dashes. It IS innovative, in the same way that the Hitbox is. At the end of the day, love him or hate him, he’s a smart player who found an angle to work.
Also I don’t know the exact details, but I’ve talked to other FFA players who said that he doesn’t always sacrifice the A1 button, but also has additional configs. I can only assume that the alternative would be sacrificing Fierce as the OP suggests.
For shits and giggles, once I taped an old library card or something hanging over my LP and HP buttons-- I could press left or right sides to hit the individual buttons, or press the middle… One Button Dash. Clearly legal by tournament rules, in the same way that wearing a Glove-O-Love is for that ez mode mashing.
You can do a lot to an arcade stick to make it work exactly how you need it to to buff certain aspects of your game. My point is, in the scope of all that is going on in Marvel, OBD is cheap, but its not a game-breaking advantage.
Deus, I looked into replacing fierce with PP. It worked somewhat, but there were situations that I couldn’t deal with. I.e. I’m on the ground and I want to do a Cr. Fierce as an anti-air. Unless I was full crouched, the fierce would come out as a dash. Doing storm’s nj infinite on Sentinel was done by jumping short, forward, Fierce, Roundhouse. With PP macro’d it would do j. short, j. forward, dash… the alternative to this was to do j, short forward, hold jab, fierce, roundhouse. Also there were plenty situations where in the air, a raw fierce was necessary, which would be followed by an air dash. So for all intents and purposes, it lost a lot of options that I just wasn’t willing to sacrifice.
As far as the entire community hating me for it, that’s a far stretch. In fact I got along with most of the community, and yipes and various others would admit to this day that losing an assist definitely negates any cheapness associated with obd. Also many stick players use OBD in MvC3 now.
Regarding being obnoxious during the MM’s with Neo, I was personally asked by Neo to do that to throw off his opponents and it worked. We made money in those situations. At the end of the day I was much more concerned with the money to be made than the respect of my peers. Evo allowed button mapping starting with evo 2k6. I very much am thankful for mvc2, shaped me in a lot of ways to not be swayed by blind hate from others.
Ya I think hate is a pretty strong word. I think your antics sometimes rub people the wrong way but whatever…
To the opp:
Basics don’t change… I don’t care if jesus and mosas post in here… marcro’s are cheap. Giving up an assist to use it can easily be huge disadvantage… and if your trying to go from avg level to high level in this game or something using it wont be some amazing benefit. Learning to time the buttons right so a dash comes out 99% is what’s up… and not hard to achieve. U really think it’s that hard to 5 fierce? Do you really think the hard part of the ROM is hitting 2 buttons at once? U really think a person whose at a level where they are trying to marco so they can achieve the basic combos of a character is really at a point where he should be in srk fighting for the merits of macros amongst longtime players?
I asked the mods to close the thread cos it was going no-where ( i.e I, like alot of people think OBD is cheap and grimey, you think its courageous - Rosa parks anyone?), plus I was giving you the last post … just wanna point out that I tested the stuff for you as well. So i didn’t just drop how its cheap - i tested your theories. So yeah - i derailed your thread by testing what YOU ASKED FOR. Did you really think a thread about OBD would pass without people not pointing out how stupid it is? ( that’s kinda presumptuous in itself too)
Again, have the last post and mods - close the thread. It ain’t gonna go anywhere.
AND yeah I appreciate the irony in posting again.
