Wtf? JMS is doing a great job on this title and for the record he’s one of Marvel’s best writers. Your complaints are that Thor doesn’t talk in annoying cheesy old english and that you don’t like his outfit. Then you say that you’re reading the comic cuz you like the artist, but it’s a good bet that he designed the outfit. Doesn’t add up. Thor is gonna wander around Earth looking for Asgardians until he finds however many of 'em JMS wants him to find. Then we move on to another story arc. This isn’t Highlander. No need to stick to the same premise for the entire run of the comic just because we paid too much money for a Queen song.
Anyway, i’ve got a question about the comic. Did Ezra die or what?
ROFL my ass off because that’s exactly what I thought when I read your first post, and nearly posted it myself earlier. Sano knows no standards for comics.
Ragey, you gots to lay off with the Bendis hate. Continue hating on Way, though. That is the official stance of the Church of Bru: Bendis is our homeboy and Way must be destroyed. Don’t believe me? Ed Brubaker HIMSELF told me this last night in a dream. So there.
I like to give sano a hard time with the voodoo magicks, but only because he is not down with FAAAAAAABLES!!!11. I once told him that “Nightwing is whack” and he retaliated by mailing an envelope of anthrax to Willingham. And we’ve been archenemies ever since. You know, every time I say something absurdly stupid or over-the-top pretentious on SRK, it’s because sano uses his godlike power to make me look like a fool.
That’s so weird, I actually expected relevant discussion regarding Thor #3 to be in the Thor #3 thread. But I forgot this was SRK.
I can understand why some people don’t dig Thor’s new costume (I think it’s awesome, personally) - are you guys bummed out that he’s not showing as much skin as he used to? I’d assume all the nakedness he had in the first issue would be enough to satisfy the beefcake fan service.
Heimdall’s costume redesign was cool though (though anything’s an improvement over those old crazy designs) - Coipel’s doing some real fun stuff on this title, I love the art. I think this is shaping up to be one of the better monthly superhero titles - I actually think the whole Where’s Waldo type search for Thor’s buddies is kinda neat.
But if JMS forgets about my boy Beta Ray Bill, then he’ll go from being one of my favourite Marvel writers to one of my most hated. Chances are slim, I know, but it’s not too much to ask to see Oliver Coipel’s version of Beta Ray Bill, right?
Is that Mark Millar interviewing Daniel Way? I hope they were both talking about collaborating on a future Origin project with Rob Liefeld or Michael Turner. That’d be my ultimate comic book wet dream.
Also, somewhat related to sano being a communist Nazi puppy killer and not loving FAAAABLES!!!111…one of my friends has started dating this guy who is supposedly a self-admitted “comic book nerd” like it was some sort of cutesy, shy, character flaw that you’re supposed to find disarmingly charming. I laughed at her and declared that I’d be the judge of that. It’s weird, because at this point I’m thinking that depending on how he feels about one comic book series, he’s either my new supercool best friend, or a huge douchebag that I want nothing to do with.
Turns out he’s only read the first trade of FAAAABLES!!!1111. Which means he finished reading Legends In Exile, and didn’t feel it necessary to immediately go out and hunt down the rest of the trades.
I (half) jokingly told her that she was better off going out with a date rapist, and for some reason she didn’t take that as well as I’d thought.
Well, man, that is only natural. It’s just the way life is supposed to be… We judge people based on what sort of comic books they like. The reason I tend to hate human beings so much is probably because most of them don’t even enjoy comic books in general.
I got one of my pals into comics because of FAAAAABLES!!1. That was like the gateway drug. Except, somehow, he’s all screwed up. I let him borrow the first few EX MAAAAAAACHINA!!!1 TPBs, and over a period of about three months, he read the first two, but then said he didn’t have enough interest to ready any more of it.
Then I let him read Green Lantern: Rebirth (because he’s apparently a huge Kyle fan who didn’t know crap about Hal) and he came back to me the next week boasting about how “it’s the greatest comic [he’s] ever read!”
I’m scared to let him read Watchmen because if he doesn’t like that, we might not be able to be friends any longer.
Clinty, did you check out ol’ Horse Face in the new Canada Flight comic?
I bought all five issues - my store ran out of #4 and I actually went and looked for it in three different stores all around town. Why was Omega Flight #4 such a rare issue!?!
It wasn’t fair - it was my favourite alien Thor character of all time, featured in a Canadian super hero team…it was like specifically targeted towards the Carpet Lint demographic, of which there is only one member of. I had absolutely no choice, I had to buy them.
Scott Kolins is a beast and I love him like my incestuous gay father, but he didn’t work at all for the book, and that was probably made worse by the lack of inking in there. His style just doesn’t work without inks - there’s no definition to the lines, there’s no boundaries to limit his insanity.
And I don’t remember the story at all, it was pretty slow and meaningless throughout. But Oeming has written two straight Beta Ray Bill minis, and I’m wondering whether or not he’s the only bigger Beta Ray Bill fan out there in the world.
But it had Beta Ray Bill in Canada, and thus it automatically becomes the greatest comic book of all time.
If you’re listening, Marvel and DC, I would automatically buy any issues that featured the following characters, even if Daniel Way wrote them…
Taskmaster
Batgirl
Richard Dragon
The Question
Mr. Miracle
Thanos
Get to it!
And I completely understand The Watchmen Dilemma - apparently this guy she’s dating also listed HUSH as his favourite Batman story of all time on his Facebook profile (I don’t have Facebook so I can’t check)…so now it’s like…if I ever meet him, I’m scared of asking him about Dark Knight Returns. Like…is he just inexcusably ignorant and he hasn’t read it despite the fact that it’s renown as one of the best comics of all time (not even the best Batman comic, but like the best COMIC of all time)…or has he actually read it, and he’s just criminally insane?
Like…what if he’s actually read it and still chooses Hush over Dark Knight Returns? I would have no choice but to kill him, right? I mean…I love my friend, but shit, nigga’s gotta die! I would have no choice!
Whoa I’m getting a lot of hate during the weekend ha ha! Do I have to go into the why I didn’t like Fables thing again? Quick refresher.
Grew up reading Disney comics and watching Disney movies. Used to be a bigtime Disney fan, I would draw Donald Duck every single day. Hell I can draw Donald Duck almost blindfolded I’ve done it so much, way more than any other character. So I can safely say I am coming from a different place than most of you are.
The thought of Prince Charming banging random broads and most of the stuff in the comic repulsed me. Again it makes me physically ill and feel like throwing up and I am honestly not exagerating when you think I am, no I’m not it repulses me, even thinking about it leaves a bad taste in my mouth I swear to you that is the truth. Think if Walt Disney got out of his grave and read Fables what would he think? Now you are getting where I’m coming from.
Hey it’s shock value and even if you are a fan of Fables you have to admit that’s what it is. Well it shocked me away from the book. Not gonna shake my preconcieved notions of what those characters are supposed to be. Sorry, I’m not wired that way.
Hmmm, how to explain this so you can relate? Imagine if you saw Wolverine as a sick little boy wearing pajamas, oh wait a minute.
Isn’t Fables getting high praise from the universe so my opinion on it doesn’t matter, like really who cares. Enjoy the comics you like and don’t judge people by that yeash not everyone is gonna like everything. Hey I’ve met some fans of Devin Grayson’s Nightwing they do exist… PS hated her run with a passion if you don’t know that about me, but different strokes different folks… All I or anyone has is opinions, that’s it. So long as someone reads some comic they are okay with me. We comic book readers are a small part of the population - hell, a small part of SRK - and there is really no need not to get along with someone because they like / dislike something you do or don’t. Hmm, prolly taken this a little too personal so I’ll end this post with being a jerk oh yeah. :badboy:
LOL at the Fables lovers though, there was a thread on it here and it only got TWO POSTS and that’s only because I’m counting the thread starter’s reply as a post. Turn around and ask yourself how much do you love Fables, go bump that thread to prove it and leave me alone. You can actually do more for your love of Fables around here than bug me about what I think ya know.
Yeah SRK loves Fables, riiiiiiiiiight… Two months have passed and there have been two posts both on the same exact day, can you feel the love?
Lol this entire story is not true. Well yes the part about Zephyranthes saying the Nightwing of planet Krypton is whack is true I have no problem with that.
J/K but if you think I haven’t heard Nightwing is whack before seriously come on even Didio thinks he’s whack there’s no way I’d react like that. Or is there? Next time on Fox, When Mods Go Mad like Mad Mod! :badboy:
Now I want you to imagine that Victor Hugo, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Hans Christian Anderson, and… uh… Pocahantas had a chance to watch Walt Disney movies based on their works. Those guys would roll over in their graves so hard that the Earth would spin in the opposite direction. Their maggots would roll over in disgust.
You ever read the original fairy tales which inspired your beloved Disney flicks? FAAAAABLES!!!1 is truer to the spirit of the Brothers Grimm than anything Disney produced.
It makes me physically ill to imagine that multiple generations of children have grown up watching sanitized versions of classic fairy tales. So ill, in fact, that I just vomited all over my keyboard. Hang on. I need to go to Best Buy and get a new one. I’ll be back.
My preconceived notions of Prince Charming, Goldilocks, et al. involve lots of sex, violence, and old-fashioned lovin’. What can I say? That’s just how I roll.
Most people have opinions. I simply possess the facts of life. You must acknowledge my beliefs and accept them as your own. Who’s yer daddy?
At the risk of sounding sarcastic, we FAAAAABLES!!!11 fans commune hourly with one other through telepathy.
Before I say anything I have nothing against Zeph really or anybody but since people really want to drag this thing out on this off topic thread since it can’t be settled with “I like strawberry not vanilla” I suppose I have to respond further…
You understand that at the time Disney movies came out there was no such thing as anime and everything was intended for kids right? Course you do and moving along.
Lol I care nothing for any movie made after Jungle Book, the last movie Walt Disney was involved in. Much moreso with newer stuff, they really have no idea what he was about. He never ever made sequels to his movies, they begged him to make Snow White 2 and he refused even though it would of been easy money. He dramatically changed the look of Sleeping Beauty, put up a lot of his own money and if that movie would of flopped Disney company of today would not exist. He was a risk taker who was always trying to expand the genre - see Fantasia which turned out to be a flop originally by the by. He took big chances and risks. Compare that to Disney now who makes cheap-quel straight to video sequels of movies he swore he’d never do.
I’ve read some and even took a class on it in college, but that’s not what I grew up on and it’s not what it represents to me as comics. That world is everyone living in a forest with Bambi, Big Bad Wolf, The Seven Dwarfs and so on. Yeash why does this need further explanation than me saying Fables is not for me?
Yawn just like last time people think I’m kidding when I say that or exagerating. I swear on my dead grandmother who past away last year that’s how I feel if this gives you any indication that I am not joking when I say the book made me feel like throwing up. Insert silly comment here to add some levity.
And there is nothing wrong with you feeling that way just as there is nothing wrong with me not liking a certain comic or someone liking Hush more than DKR. People have different opinions. And so it goes.
No you don’t. But we live in an age where that line has become very blury. An art book will say Mona Lisa is the greatest painting ever, if you take an art history class you may have to memorize that and write it down as an answer to a question. Doesn’t make it a fact. Mona Lisa had bad anatomy and super simple compisition, though I suppose me saying that is also an opinion.
You guys keep that up so I can continue not having to read posts on Fables thank you.
Say what you will but that thread already has more posts than the Fables thread and hasn’t been around long enough. So again, wasting time worrying about what I think instead of posting on the Fables thread and creating more fans for it with your “facts?” I’m a lost cause, I’m just not going to like Fables. This is like trying to get your momma to read a comic book. In the meantime you can be reaching out to noobs who happen on that empty void of a Fables thread and say “Whoa that sounds cool” instead of spending time on me on a topic that has nothing to do with Thor #3 but whatever…
Yeah I’m not gonna comment further on Fables, or maybe not on this thread anymore since it has nothing to do with the topic. I just don’t like it. Hey it’s the internet, someone out there hates whatever it is that you like, that’s just how it is. Been reading comics for twenty years but I don’t feel my opinion is better than anybodies, I can tell what I like and don’t like and that is it. Eh going in circles but whatever, not much else for me to say… no hate or aything…
I’m more intrigued about this FAAAAAAAABLE!!!111 more than anything else. Zephy MAY have converted me. More information as it happens this week.
Anyway, I like vanilla. Oh, and liking Hush over DKR is UNACCEPTABLE!!! Sano, you should know better than this. This may jeopardize your mod-hood, imo. You have shamed the Church of Bru. BURN HIS COMIC BOOK COLLECTION!!! We begin with his love for Ducktales comics. Those will burn the brightest. Yessssssss…
Sano: it’s a given that everyone loves fables. i don’t post about it because I assume everyone knows what’s happening since they’re all reading it and I refuse to make a redundant post about awesomeness that could never be adequately reproduced through my text. The only people who don’t read fables are blind or dead. I’m currently working on Fables on Tape: Ouija Edition to solve both of those problems. Everyone who is dead is currently in hell because hell is being unable to read Fables. Truth.
