ahem. the botched 3ds launch and its amazing recovery shows that nintendo is trying indeed. 20 free games for the early adopters? a 70 dollar price drop for those on the fence? HOLY. SHIT.

with regards to the wii - show me a past console of theirs with more 1st party nintendo titles on it - let alone megaton titles from their core franchises. hell, i think the only one they’ve missed this generation was FZero.

motion controls are fine. nintendo is great. if you want to point fingers then look no further than the shit headed developers that half ass their projects and try to impede nintendo at every turn.

i remember way back when the original DS was announced. everyone laughed at nintendo and you had gaming websites claiming the end of times for nintendo (but when aren’t they claiming that?) and that the PSP would sell circles around the DS. for the first little while there were no good 3rd party games on the DS. well about a year later the new control scheme blew the standard psp out of the water and devs actually started to put in the effort to make good games for the DS. fast forward now and the DS can be compared to the SNES in quality and quantity of games - especially rpg’s.

now the difference between good games being produced then for one new control scheme (touch) and bad ones now for the next new control scheme (motion) is that the market wasn’t quite one sided this time around. the DS became undisputed champion, but the wii vs the HD twins made it a 50/50 split (closer to 45/55 towards the end in favour of the twins). given the long standing bias almost the entire industry has against nintendo, most high profile devs put more resources into the hd twins. compounded with the fact that it’s more familiar to them to produce “standard” games and that the HD twin demographic is a lot easier to market towards, we get half-assed attempts at motion controlled games with next to nil marketing vs games with budgets rivalling that of the movie industry and marketing with equally inflated budgets.

a very different picture was painted than what could have been in terms of motion control gaming.

and on the subject of nintendo “destroying” what they made… it’s more of the other way around. devs ran away from nintendo in droves come ps1/n64 era, and same thing happened with ps2/gcn/xbox even though nintendo was plenty “hardcore” (a silly term imo) both generations. if nintendo didn’t make the wii they’d be dead right now because the devs and media in the industry sure as shit aint doing nintendo any favours. nintendo couldn’t win back the traditional market so they created their own blue ocean to reap from.

it’s all comes down to image, history, and competition (or in nintendo’s case - wanting relatively little competition). in truth it’s very hard for nintendo to win no matter what they do. make a standard device? no one buys it. try out something new? everyone takes jabs at nintendo because it’s the cool thing to do… unless the success of the product becomes unquestionable (as with the touch capable DS). otherwise lackluster support is given to nintendo because money can be made elsewhere for the time being.

on a slightly related note, surprise surprise the motion control detractors of 5 years ago are pulling 180’s and trying to hack (as in unoriginal hacks) themselves a piece of the motion pie and make it seem “cool” now that they see how lucrative it can be.

Boy I tell you training online is not fun, If you have been blessed with a live scene with a friendly atmosphere then I seriosly am jealous. Training online sucks big time, especially when you start playing A tier people in europe like Alioune and others, you lose once or twice and they never wanna play you again. It hurts to lose, especially someone who is so much better than you, but the fact that you cant rematch them again is like a slap on the face. I know they don’t wanna play scrubs all the time but still, but I ts not like I’m asking for a ft 10… Feels bad man

I don’t know if it’s “not wanting to play scrubs,” so much (I went 0-10 vs Alioune once :)), as much as it is a connection thing. Playing in noticeable lag sucks, and doesn’t really benefit anyone involved…

I live in in Finland and he’s french it’s a full green connection and he hit his 1 frames perfectly. That is if Far s.Fierce into cr.forward is a 1 frame link? I don’t know maybe I just did not notice it because I did not really have a chance to do anything ( :frowning: )…maybe maybe, but yeah like Sniper said I sometimes people just come to troll and when I beat them then thats it.

I just, I dunno europe has good players, but we haven’t exactly won any Evos or anything, I’m just asking for a little solidarity ( We are in the same boat in the union and all that shit…) I don’t know about the scene in France but back here its non existant, If I can play against really good players then I’ll take the chance and I hope they can respect the fact that I wanna lvl up too and not send me messages like “oh lol another bison scrub tihihii” or “lucker” etc…

I never had issues with Nintendo handhelds, in fact they were always the king of that market. I love all their handhelds and I will buy a 3DS myself when they get better games that aren’t remake, remake, port, mario, remake, free game that can be emulated or that I played to death, remake, mario, mario ect.

The issue I have is their consoles and direction they are taking some of there most acclaimed franchises (read: nowhere… same old same old recycled stuff) is what irks me. I can’t even touch Zelda anymore for example, after playing Elder Scrolls games. And I really dislike motion controls. I like to relax when I play, not flail around like an idiot. I remember playing Wii with my ex boyfriend before, lol he looked mad dumb… >_> I also feel the control is more precise when it’s not with motion controls, but that could just be due to current limitations on technology.

Nothing wrong with being casual friendly or what not, but let’s not completely ignore the other side of the spectrum, which is pretty much what they did during the generation of the Wii. Was mostly shovelware or uninspired games of their big name franchises.

Here’s a teaser for some 3rd parties, just for tits: No More Heroes, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Sonic Colours, Red Steel 2, Zack & Wiki, Mad World… Just give the word. I’m itching to list out more amazing games in the Wii library - 1st party or 3rd!

You see, the games certainly are there. Quality games, too. Motion, non-motion, or a bit of both. Now I wouldn’t say it’s unfair to claim the Wii has shovelware on it, but I WILL say it’s unfair to say Nintendo isn’t trying, or that their games are uninspired, or that there are no good 3rd party games (a common claim by HD twin whores), or that the Wii is the only console to ever have a large batch of shovelware titles from bad developers (take a gander at the library of any console that was dominant for its own generation).

Now it’s fine that you dislike motion controls - no one is making you play those games. I mean, you’re missing out on some fantastic titles but that’s your choice. However, it seems to me you’ve done what almost every other quote unquote ‘hardcore gamer’ has done this generation and dismissed the Wii due to frivolous conjectures passed on by people and quite probably ‘journalists’ who wouldn’t know a quality device or piece of software if it bit them in the dicks.

Again, the Wii hate is very much unfounded. The garnered distaste for the Wii among the ‘hardcore’ is spurred by the fact it isn’t a powerhouse console (laughably by the same people who don’t realize Nintendo’s GC was stronger than the PS2, or that the N64 was stronger than the PS1), and by the fact that Nintendo tapped into a previously ignored market that is their sisters, parents, and grandparents who are some how going to ruining gaming as we know it by pumping more money into the industry.

See what I mean when I say Nintendo can’t win? Nintendo caters to the “hardcore”? No one buys and they lose money (N64, GCN). Nintendo caters to the “casuals” (Wii marketing)? Nintendo makes money but the hardcore that ignored them in the first place give them shit. Nintendo caters to everyone (which is what they actually did this generation)? Nintendo makes money, the “casuals” have fun, the “hardcore” bitch because that’s all they’ve every done and will do.

Meanwhile, the people like me - who enjoy a good god damn Mario game or love a god damn classic Zelda or get excited to see fresh and unique 3rd party games - will always be happy.
