Lol, I dunno. All in all, I like the new HUD in terms of looks; it’s a stylish looking hud, very neo-arcadey rainbow shiek.
It’s just… I dunno, organized strangely.

You see feedback, I see whining.
It’s one thing if the HUD is completely not doing its job. It’s another thing to give Capcom some “feedback” on the way you want it to look only because you don’t want to adjust and not realizing how easy it is to memorize A1 is at the bottom and A2 is at the top.
I’m kind of against having an alternate HUD. Wouldn’t want to be at an event where some setups are using one and other setups are using a different one. That’d fuck things up even worse if you had to get used to both.
Not that I don’t think the new HUD is atrocious. Just have to live with it now I guess.
i had a dream a while back that there was an option to change the HUD back to the way it was in vanilla. that was a great dream.
in fact thinking about it now, ive only recently come to realise that it was actually a dream in the first place.
lets put it this way… if there really were no problems with the HUD, and it was as good as it could possibly be, then surely, this very thread would not exist?
After playing in some Player Matches today and calling out my Hawkeye assist multiple times instead of my Taskmaster assist, I have to agree with what people are saying about the HUD, definitely can be confusing when you’re in a real match.
I think the HUD is nice. Takes up less space on the screen. When UMvC3 was first shown the only problem I had was I couldn’t see the assist characters health, but capcom has taken care of that problem.
Maybe one could be tourney-sanctioned? I don’t know how effective that’d be, or if you could do it.
I like how the new HUD looks visually but not how it functions. I would rather have the slot rotation when DHC’ing through my team than what this new HUD does. Also, I guess I’ll have to swap my assist buttons on my stick since I use a combination of the MvC2 and MvC3 control scheme if I can’t get used to the new HUD character order.
The A1 being at the bottom and the A2 at the top of the HUD is so fucking stupid… On the other hand the new HUD shows character costume and color and that’s pretty cool so…
It’s unrealistic to expect there to be an enforced standard.
Honestly, from what I’ve heard (don’t have the game yet), I already expect the “hold launcher to super-jump automatically” to be somewhat of a problem in and of itself for that reason, since I expect most veteran players to turn that off immediately and forget about it.
If it’s already turned off, then it shouldn’t be a problem. From what I’ve read, it sounds like you have to turn it on in the options first.
It isn’t doing it’s job. When the colors are too close that your glance need to be a refocus, it’s not good.
Only 2 things are wrong: The colors being too close to easily differentiate, and the order of the other characters being confusing.
Obviously they care and listen to feedback (or as you perceive it, whining) because the Xs are very visible. Now can assist life also be visible and the character order on the HUD be intuitive?
Played tonight. Didn’t feel HUD at first, then didn’t have any issues with it by game 5. Seriously. I can see assist health clearly, you just have to know what to look for.
Another avenue to bring attention to this problem

although you can get used to this new HUD, I would also agree that it is downright terribad. It is a huge downgrade. Does it do its job? That’s questionable. If it did, there wouldn’t be any complaints about it, so no, it doesn’t do its job.
My main problem with it is the A2/A1 issue. That just seems completely idiotic. No amount of PR bullshit can really explain this one to me.
Don’t characters (especially characters like Nemesis and Sentinel) also obscure the HUD? I’d say this is a pretty idiotic issue as well.
Finally… it just looks inconsistent. I especially find the font for the Hyper meter jarring when compared to the life bars… then again, this is a game where on the title screen, “Ultimate” “Marvel” “VS” “Capcom” and “3” all have their own fonts, so maybe consistency is just not their strong point.
Some of these “suggestions” show just the grossest examples of self-entitlement I’ve ever seen. It’s horrible…O_o
As far as the HUD goes, I really don’t have too many problems. I think I’ve messed up one snapback and called in the wrong character once, maybe twice. Played twelve hours straight.
I do however agree, that is just seems absolutely counter intuitive to have things like darkened health bars for assist, and an odd ordering for your partners. I know it’s not what people want to hear, but I think if you just nut up and play with it for a week, maybe less, it isn’t going to be that big of a deal. Do I think suggesting to Capcom that they do some tweaks, offer some HUD customization, maybe a downloadable version of Vanilla is a reasonable idea? Sure, but I don’t think you should go gung-ho about it. Suggest it, if they listen great, if not, learn to live within the boundaries of what you’re provided.
Another reason for me to not bother learning Marvel.
Bring on Skullgirls!
“If something is not bad, people wouldn’t complain about it” argument is terrible since people will complain about anything.
I presumed they changed it because they needed to tone down the graphics in all areas for all the added characters. The game generally looks a little bland graphically in comparison.
