TheSwitcher (street fighter stupidity) video thread

OH MY FUCKING GOD…WHAT DID THEY DO TO KEN’S VOICE!? lmfao I still haven’t seen SF Alpha Generations and I did want to see it despite people saying it was shit buuuut…

No offense switcher, but your comment on the movie…I disapprove. I personally liked the feature and it DID use stuff from the main SF continuity, or rather story elements from the SF canon-
1- The main story is Ryu seeking Gouki and fighting him, for vengeance against Gouken/redeem Gouken’s honour
2- Fuuka/Fuka is Gouken’s daughter; Gouken had a daughter in the SF canon, but her name was never stated (though I’ve heard she was called Hitomi)
3- The old man is most likely Retsu, putting aside his cheerful attitude, he was a close friend of Gouken, so him being a caretaker for Fuuka would make sense

That’s some of the stuff I recall of it, gonna have to watch it again when I get back home.

Mind you, part of the reason why I think the fanbase didn’t like it have to do with-
1- Art direction (the art style was not like 90-95% of animes at the time and that you see today)
2- It didn’t have a ChunLi shower scene
3- It didn’t have lots of SF characters in it(?), though I really don’t see the point of that if they’re not going to do much for the plot’s sake

I still think you should give it a watch, but not with the eng. dub of course (I had watched the movie with JP dub cuz…it’s the original dubbing :3)
Take note of some of the stuff I wrote above when watching BTW.

I’ll give it a shot since you said I should give it a chance. I’ve already watched most of all Street Fighter’s animation (SF2 anime movie, US Cartoon, 2 V and SFA movie) so I figured I may as well watch this one for at least comparison purposes. The style of the movie sort of reminds me of the style of ‘Kid’s Story’ from the Animatrix…which I felt pretty meh about.

No. The movie is not good, at all. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but everything about the movie is boring, cheaply made, and the least entertaining of any media based on Street Fighter. I can watch Legend of Chun-Li with friends, and have an AMAZING time. When I showed Generations to some friends, we just sat in stunned silence, and felt sorry for our lot in life.

Seeing Akuma when he’s a young regular dude is a bad, bad idea no matter how you slice it. Because there is no way you can show that, without it looking ridiculous, there is no way you can do that storyline justice. It is something that you should leave to the imagination, because it’s just going to disappoint. It’s like watching the origin of Hannibal Lecter, or Darth Vader. Your taking the mystery of appeal of that character away. Which this movie certainly did, in terms of all Street Fighter based dramatizations.

Even so, Akuma is still given absolutely no character development for the entire thing, he just wants to be more powerful. That’s all we’re told. But guess what? We already knew that, way, way before this ever came along. This movie does nothing new, despite it supposedly being all about Akuma. Therefor, I question it’s right to even exist.

Ryu does not travel around in jeans, with pots and pans hanging from a store-bought “The North Face” backpack and wear a big huge coat. This might be nitpicking, but it clearly shows who wrote this knew little about Street Fighter, and it’s characters.

The art direction is completely off, and many scenes are badly transitioned from main animators and in-betweeners, but really, that’s nothing, I don’t even mind that too much. But as you pointed out, that’s what turned alot of people off.

The entire movie has three fights, two lasting about 10 seconds; Ryu and Sakura, and Ryu vs “old master” the made-up character that has nothing to do with anything, and the writer obviously cared so little about, didn’t even bother to name him. The last fight is so disjointed and unentertaining, it shouldn’t even count, Ryu and Akuma. Every one had terrible fight choreography. If you can’t make a meaningful story, at least get this part right.

There was 1 special move thrown in that entire last fight, a water-blast kamehameha fireball, that Akuma just shrugs off. Did Akuma ever actually perform a real street fighter move? You never see him do shit. Not even a Shun Goku Satsu.

Ken. I’d rather Ken just not be in the movie at all, because he’s simply thrown in there with nothing to do, doesn’t fight, just runs in, gets knocked down, and is never seen again. And as mentioned, terribly voiced. I know you said to watch this with subs, which would help a bit, but this entire movie was produced and commissioned by Manga entertainment to a Japanese development house, specifically for the American market, and the Japanese version wasn’t released until much later. Probably to avoid embarrassment. Manga has the rights to SF anime, so Capcom couldn’t really do anything.

I realize, that yes, just throwing in more characters would not help things much, and going into the more personal street fighter stories is a good idea in theory, but honestly…I’d rather see a mediocre street fighter tale about a tournament, then a small personal story that has only 4 characters, but drags on forever cuz they all have nothing to do.

If the entire movie was about Ryu wanting to get revenge on Akuma for killing Gouken, how come that is never shown? Hell, if you were just a regular anime fan with no knowledge of SF, you wouldn’t even know who Ryu was talking about. It might as well have been Gotetsu he was trying to avenge, because that’s all Akuma is shown doing. Killing Gotetsu.

89% of the movie, nothing is even happening. It’s just Ryu talking to both the made up characters. Who was the girl who was hanging out with Gouken and Akuma? What was her name? Is she the same girl? Fuuka? Is she her mother? Relative? Who are these characters, again…no explanation, not that anyone cares.

Last but not least, Samurai Ghost army.

P.S. The ending and music sucks too.

Would rep the ever-repping shit out of you if I could Switch.

“I just don’t understand why!”

so you’d rather watch the SF cartoon series than the SF Generations movie? it just sounds like you hate it for the sake of hating it. it wasn’t nearly as bad as you make it out to be.

I just watched Generations last night. I have to say…that movie was severely lacking. There wasn’t anything really that stood out for me from watching the movie (I got an English Dubbed version which probably made my opinion on it even worse so I’m going to try to leave that out). Since when is just doing a regular ass Hadouken using the dark hadou? There were just several things that the movie rubbed me the wrong way.

I gave my reasons why it’s terrible.

I saw generations long before I knew the cartoon series existed, I was anticipating it, actually. Then when it screened at EVO, and everyone said it was shit and terrible…I still bought it, cuz I assumed those people were wrong.

They weren’t.

I loled HORD. God damn I had pushed most of this movie back into the recesses of my mind. It’s soooooo baaaaaaaad. I can’t tell which is worst…Super Mario Bros. or this movie.

Edit:

matter of fact… You planning on doing one for Super Mario Bros. anytime soon Switcher?

Probably not. This might sound weird, but I actually like the Super Mario Movie. It’s not a good movie, but it’s silly goofy fun, which is what Mario should be.

Double Dragon was about dudes punching your girlfriend in the GUT. And that was it, that was the story. And lookit what they did to it!

It is kinda weird but I ain’t gonna fault you for it lol. I thought the movie was cool as a kid but always thought there was something off about it…and then when I grew older and watched it again I realized how horrible it was lol. Super Mario Bros. movie has lols moments in it as well just like the Street Fighter movie. Throwing a mushroom to knock a gun out of koopa’s hand? Big Bertha period? Koopa getting hit with the shoe?

I had nearly forgotten all about that shitty ass animated movie that came out the same time as the live action one. I loled so HORD. Johnny Cage’s walk backward had me gone.

GODFUCK man what the spoiled jizz is this?!

Please tell me some out-of-touch Christians made this movie. PLZ
