The Wrestling Thread v. TLC delivers

Christian is just an amazing talent and tbh I’m surprised that he puts up with some of shit he gets from creative/Vince. I was always a fan of Edge and Christian but always thought that Edge overshadowed him until Christian had his stint in TNA which imo was great. Since then I’ve liked Christian over Edge.

Christian is pretty respected back stage from what I hear, at least now. He’s a very good worker and can make practically any wrestler he is against look good. Sure, Edge usually does overshadow him but Christian has won 21 titles over his career, is a Triple Crown AND Grand Slam champion, as well as a member of one of the undisputed great tag teams.

Also he made TNA watchable and Vince wanted to hire him back after a short period (With Edge assist) where he went to ECW (Longest WWE era ECW champ and damn good at it). Making TNA bearable is hard to do without Steiner being funny.

I just think Creative thought it was a great idea to build a storyline, fumbled massively and caught a lot of rightful backlash for their fuck-up. But I still think the matches with Orton out of it were some of the best ones of 2011, and by far the best set between two athletes for a major promotion.

I believed Christian’s 2 day run was the most bullshit. Then proceeds to spend the next couple of weeks whining for a rematch, gets it & repeatedly fails against Orton. Someone in the E really doesn’t dig Captain Korma.

Apparently the original plan was for ADR to win the title and then drop it to Orton on Smackdown, but WWE decided that having Christian win it would have made for a better DVD/live crowd moment (and they were right, in that regard). Orton I feel gets a lot of unwarranted hate: even if he talks slow and methodically in an age where everyone talks fast and talks loud, he is still easily one of the Top 50 Wrestlers in the world, maybe even the Top 20. While he’s not the miracle worker Christian is, you’re almost guaranteed a treat when he’s in the ring, especially this past year.

Hard to believe this past year yielded both Christian and Mark Henry as world champions…

Y’know, I don’t really know if I should be enjoying Hunico’s entrance or not. It’s awesome, but so borderline racist that I don’t wanna like it.

Anyway, I think they jumped the shark with the elevator fight, but it was still fairly funny. Worst part is it may mean we get even more face Sheamus… Urgh…

Hopefully Orton comes back heel. I like his face work lately, but his heel work was just ridiculous.

I don’t think anyone here has a problem with Orton’s in-ring capabilities, he is pretty entertaining when he kicks it up to second gear. Personally, I just see Orton as WWE’s “Fix it” to any situation they deem bad, when in reality it’s just a slump. Orton was tossed into the title picture as soon as he went to Smackdown and held the belt (switches not withstanding) for quite a while, and why? Safety net, he was a walking safety net.

It’s not like Orton needed it to get over, if anything he was like “Okay whatever, I’m the champ for one…two…oh who cares” and he didn’t put over Christian very well (Though I think he did a commendable job of helping Henry be dominate). Basically until the end of the year he was tossed in situations to just provide a ratings boost, not to really help a wrestler or storyline.

How many fucking times did Teddy come out for no reason and be like “Well playa’s you two seem to not like each other, so tonight right here on Smackdown…we’ll have a TAG TEAM MATCH!..WITH RANDY ORTON! Holla Holla!” I lost count at like twenty lol. His year end feuds though were pretty sweet, I REALLY liked his feud with Rhodes & Barrett, the latter kind of reminded me of an attitude era feud with the kid gloves on. It’s unfortunate he got injured, buuuut it does make Barrett look pretty damn strong and leaves open a nice return feud in the future.

Late to the new thread party, still up from last night seeking forgiveness from St. Punk for last night’s transgressions.

I don’t see a problem with the entrance it’s better than lawn mowers now that was pretty bad.

As for Orton I believe it’s better to leave him as a face for the heels to better build upon like he is now its just sad that this can’t be done against Cena since well you know.

The elevator fight was lulz but really you’re ugh about Sheamus is really targeted at Hornswoggle.

Yea the lawn mowers were pretty low.

I don’t mind a face Orton or a face Sheamus, but they water them down so much. At least Orton cut down on the smiling and whatnot, but Sheamus isn’t Sheamus anymore - Hornswaggle is just the icing on the cake. If we’re gonna have a face Sheamus, leave him like he was when he feuded with Mark Henry - “I’ll fight em!” Thats all that was needed.

True about Sheamus the Henry feud was unfinished to me they could have continued with it.

I actually almost totally forgot about that. I’m not sure why they left it.

I used to make these thread before Stu and Y2Jay would make them before I did, it is just a tradition that eventually someone else starts making the threads.

Watched Final Battle last night my thoughts:

TJP vs Elgin was an okay opening match. A few botched spots, a few sloppy spots but not terrible. TJP looks like a spot monkey who actually has wrestling ability.

Jimmy Rave vs That one guy from the Embassy. That alone should tell you how memorable that match was. Rave loses in a not a very good match to be quite honest.

Triple Threat Match for TV Title: Again decent match nothing special, a few amazing high spots but alot of just what seemed like wasted space where nothing was really going on. Generico did great though.

Special Challenge match again was okay. I am just not a big Roddy fan, I still think he is more of a tag team guy. Him going over Hero just makes no sense to me.

Tag Team Gauntlet was actually pretty good. Sure the Young Bucks were doing there FLIPS AND SHIT, but they really impressed me with their heel tendencies. By the time the match was over I actually found myself hating them in a good way and was like yeah there pretty good. I feel bad for ANX though, they really should have had the belts by now.

Briscoes vs WGTT was a really good match. WGTT came in the faces and left the heels. Shelton did a good job of selling his ribs. The Briscoes went over but it did not make WGTT look weak at all. I really do not expect this rivalry to be over with anytime soon(Not counting one of them getting signed to WWE of course).

Steen vs Corino was match of the night easily. Yeah it was a hardcore match but it was a well done hardcore match that told a good story. Some sick spots like Corino hitting Steen with a Northern Lights Bomb through the chairs. Steen hitting the Package Piledriver through chairs. Then Steen hitting Jacobs with the Package Piledriver and doing the same to Generico through a table. The reception when Generico and Steen faced off was huge.

Richards vs Edwards III was an awful match, just plain awful. The first 15 min or so were actually really good. There was alot of solid submission wrestling with some suplexs outside the ring spots mixed in. Then they went into MMA mode and it went into super ass mode. The last 30 min was just them kicking each other then getting Fighting Spirit for the 27th time that match and kicking out/Hulking Up. It was really fucking lame and Steen came out after it was over and shitted on it, basically saying what everyone was thinking. If they would have just done what they did the first 15 min, the match would have been amazing. I am completely over the whole Fighting Spirit thing. There is absolutely a time and place for it but man ROH and certain Japanese Promotions really over do it. By the time you have seen it for the literally 7th time in the same match, its dead and lost all its purpose. It seems like they do not even think about the psychology of the match and just go lets do all this shit because it sounds good.

So…should we start Hayden chants to get Stuart back? GD really feels all sorts of lackluster without him. At this rate will lose angelpalm too and then the hate will just be less until they take down Black Jesus.

Hopefully we see the talented mid carders gain some ground. Either that or McMahon dies and creative can finally do their job without interference. Although that would mean that the next Russo apparent can rise in the ranks of the E and turn the product to shit.

Speaking of McMahon dying, have u guys ever thought about the fact that in 5 years or so, we could very well be posting on these forums about a wrestling world that has no Vince McMahon in it. Regardless of his good/bad decisions, it still will not feel that same when hes finally gone.

Fighting spirit is no selling. I always hate it when it is done withOut context mutiple times in a match.

Dragon suplex–superkick----brainbuster—powerbomb—elbow drop-ddt

Bleh at least in wwe style of finisher kickouts, it actually swoops you into the drama

I mean cena hulks up like sting did, randomly no selling a hit

When two guys capable of doing an ok match devolve it into a spotfest that the crowd golf claps to, you have problems. Steen better beat davey for that belt. ROH went from Guys like danielson to stong/edwards/richards. 3 charisma vacuums

Richards isn’t a Charisma vacuum but his in ring wrestling has got worse since he tried to go all MMA style. Steen will not win, Cornette loves the whole MMA/Wrestling mix.

MMA style only works if you have guys who look like bad asses

Ken Shamrock, Goldberg, Taz, Angle, Lesnar.

Pretty much these dudes are guys who used characters of bad ass who does subs/suplexes/slams

With Davey, you have a guy who can have good matches, who chose to change his style in roh only, to let’s make this lOok as fake as possible

His noah and njpw matches this year away from roh have been great

Using subs/suplexs/slams isn’t MMA style lets get that out of the way right now. Dean Malenko did all that shit for years and he was a wrestler. Golberg was also awful, he just came in right place right time. Angle and Shamrock when they wrestled in WWE actually wrestled. Shamrock kept the whole I am an MMA thing but he was a wrestler in the ring.

Shamrock was awesome. At least, my childlike way of watching wrestling compared to the memory I have of Shamrock was awesome. Guy scared the shit out of me. Crazy white guy just waiting to ankle lock people.

Not to mention that whenever he got someone in the Ankle Lock, he legitimately looked like a psychopath who wanted to rip their foot off and put it on his mantle.
