WWE put out different versions for some DVD sets, mostly in markets outside of the U.S. but also in the U.S. in some cases, so it’s not uncommon. I have some PPVs that contained an extra disc for the same event from another year, like Armageddon 2003 also including the same PPV from the year before, or the One Night Stand package also including the Barely Legal DVD as an extra. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some kind of exclusive WWE live event or website special releases either. I haven’t really heard of re-releases for some pre-WWE stuff like this, though. I know some of the ones released right around the WWE name change didn’t blur out the old logo or edit the WWF speech.
You are correct in that some of the old WWF scratch logo releases are rare and expensive. I haven’t checked in a while, but I remember Wrestlemania X7 being particularly rare and worth a lot, especially before the box set came out a few years back. I’m glad I held onto my old DVDs. Something else to note is that the WWF scratch logo and the spoken term WWF is not banned for releases in other markets, which is why there is a series of DVDs released in the U.K. from 1998-2002 that look exactly like their VHS releases. Obviously, those aren’t available here, so these are also somewhat rare domestically.
For anyone that actually owns WWE DVD sets help me out here, doing some cheap buying to tide me over with good stuff or things I remember. So far, I have the Mick Foley collection and Macho Man set in my basket. Basically, what do you guys find to be great character specific sets?
What I am looking at:
Edge Set- I like Edge, wish it had more Tag matches in it though.
Kane Set- I really like Kane, well, masked Kane and there seems to be a good amount of that included.
Tombstone History of the Undertaker- I never even knew Taker had a set other than deadliest matches, anyone know if this is a superior set to Deadliest and if both sets share a lot of matches?
Cheating Death Stealing Life, and then also the other Eddie Guerrero DVD set to come after that. Flair’s set is really good, but I remembered you saying you didn’t like him.
Awesome good to know, they are also kind of cheap as well. Just to double check, is the Bret Hart one the best there is collection or the Hart Family one?
Honestly and i know a lot of people shit on them but if your looking for quality fuck the wwe releases you need to check Highspot’s or somewhere else.
WWE’s rabid need to rewrite history leaves so much on the cutting room floor.
I’d recommend the “somewhere else” because really, fuck Highspots. They go and sell a bunch of things that they don’t even have the rights to sell and then file copyright claims against people who post clips from their stuff online.
Also to whoever mentioned CZW being better now that DJ Hyde took over, they have a good point. Though however, CZW really WAS pretty good in 2003-2005. It’s just from 2006-2009 they…were kinda crap a lot of the time except for I think one Best of the Best tournament. 2010, and what I saw of 2011 were both really good for them and they only go crazy on Cage of Death and Tournament of Death.
I know what you mean here, but the opposite can also be true. Everyone has an agenda when it comes to recounting stories with limited facts to back them up. Winners write the history books, but even then the other guys with an axe to grind tend to bend the truth pretty often too.
WWE docs are pretty good overall, but the best part usually is the matches and other footage that isn’t possible on non-WWE produced content since they own it. They essentially own the history of major pro wresting in North America and outside of a handful of instances, I don’t think they have done a bad job telling the story yet.
Nice. I’ve seen that DVD go for over $100 used before. Definitely glad I got it cheap a long time ago. Plus it’s good to have an option to see possibly the best PPV ever without the annoying blurring and editing that plagues the anthology release and individual matches on other sets.
