RVD was always scheduled to be a short term champ to try to get people to watch ONS. RVD was actually scheduled to win from the start per Bruce Prichard and Vince was the one who brought it up. Vince actually liked RVD quite a bit and didn’t really care that much about the bust outside the public relations. The pills they ended up having prescriptions for and the pipe was never used. They both got busted for the pot RVD had on him in the end.

A few more things, Dave Lagana wrote Decemeber To Dismember, Vince did change the entire show which caused Heyman to get fired when he fought against it. The sticking point was Heyman wanted CM Punk to tap out Big Show in the first 15 seconds, then tap out everyone else that came out putting CM Punk over. Vince said “You mean you want that scrawny little tattooed fuck to tap out the Big Show?” and fired Heyman before the PPV even ended from being the head of ECW (Even though Vince was the head of ECW). Heyman just finished the PPV to get paid for it .

It’s interesting to note that this is what old ECW did in a way serve as for WWF and WCW back in the nineties. Heyman would bring in hot indie talent as well as non-mainstream styles and give them exposure, and then they’d get “called up” by either Vince or Bischoff to work with them. I mean, Taz’s coming into the WWF basically serves as a prototype for how most NXT stars come in. He even continued to go back to ECW for a few main events.

Looking back, I liked WWECW a lot. When you look at how many wrestlers came through WWECW (Punk, Swagger, Kingston, Sheamus, Morrison, Lashley, Burke, Kozlov, Kelly Kelly Kelly Kelly Kelly Kelly), the argument could be made that WWECW was NXT before NXT.
