The Wrestling Thread 2015 - IN THE BOOKS! PLEASE LOCK THREAD MODS!

It’s kind of like the same way I like all visual storytelling like Cartoons, videos games, comic books movies. I know this isn’t real, but you know what? this looks fucking cool when it is done right.

I know Austin vs Hart I quit is fake but it still looks fucking cool and I can watch it no matter what, just like I read Berserk and know that Guts, Griffith and Caska don’t exist but when you see the Eclipse chapters in anime or manga form it still makes me feel those raw emotions I felt the first time I saw them a decade ago.

It think it’s more complicated than that. Berserk, for instance, has a unique, engaging story and the nature of the action is fresh and unpredictable.

Wrestling storylines, even the good ones, are very simplistic, and the nature of the action, especially in the WWE, follows a number of set conventions. Guys will whip each other into the ropes and come bouncing off. You will see clotheslines and hilarious working punches like something out of a John Wayne Western. Lazy pinfall attempts and kickouts that should never work. Lots of near-falls. Finishers and signature moves for each guy. There will be more strikes than actual grappling.

It’s all very predictable, and yet, as you note above, something Hart vs. Austin at Wrestlemania 13 is an absolute masterpiece to watch. I understand the appeal, but it’s a very unique one. There really isn’t anything else quite like pro wrestling.

I love some of the ridiculousness of pro wrestling. We let it slide because it IS pro wrestling.

We’ve seen guys get beat up in the ring, and instead of someone(s) coming out to save them immediately, theme music must play first before they come help!

If any of my friends are getting attacked in real life, I’m gonna make sure my theme music plays first before I come and help!

Wrestling is impossible to explain. Seriously it is. I love, I adore, pro wrestling, yet I am completely unable to explain why.

Maybe Rogan’s butthurt that UFC hasn’t produced anyone memorable other than Bones and Rousey in the past 10 years. (okay maybe chael and silva)

What Chris Rock is to liking/defending hip-hop is what I am to liking/defending wrestling.

It could be worse. We could all be bronies or furries.

Nah, it’s not ‘could be worse’, sometimes I kinda feel sorry for people who aren’t into wrestling.

They are seriously missing out on the best form of entertainment there is.

I remember Jeff Jarret saying that ‘to those who understand, no explanation is needed, to those who don’t, no explanation will do.’

But like, I got to see Undertaker/HBK at Wrestlemania, so the real winner is me.

your counting silva and not gsp?

so i’m watching wwe network(borrowed my friends account to check it out). I’m watching a countdown of ladder matches and im realizing…wwe used to have alot more title matches and gimmick matches. i wonder what changed to have less of those kinds of matches…every week used to be a ppv level match.

Silva and gsp are anti personalities.
The Diaz bros, mayhem, Chael, rampage, tito, Rhonda, bones(finally after 2 years as the champ), Connor.

Like them or not, good or bad. Those are actual personalities.

top personalities.

Yeah I should add GSP, forgot about him because of his hiatus.

Part of it was because I grew up watching wrestling literally from my infancy because my Grandparents were from the deep south and watched TBS WCW/NWA and USA WWF wrestling. I’m not bullshitting when I say I saw alot of those matches live while it happened because that’s all I knew growing up and I loved it. The great thing for me was when I got smart and realized it was fake.

It was pretty easy when The Undertaker was Mean Mark from the Skyscrapers 2.0. It was also around the same time I found out there was no santa clause too. So you had this guy who was basically like a zombie walking around, but was a totally different character six months ago, but I’m expected to believe this is real? The six year old in me can only believe so much, but I still loved watching the matches. It’s that simple.

Then it was like around 11 or 12 when I said to myself; I know wrestling is fake, but I watch DBZ and that’s fake and old Bruce Lee movies and that is fake, so whatever I know it is fake fighting and it is cool. Then as I watched that A&E documentary and I learned the history of pro wrestling and I realized that I loved all of the old school carny aspects of wrestling too. Being smart to the business made me love the business even more. I turned away from wrestling for like 3 years. Meaning I went to college and did other shit but still kept tabs on the product but I couldn’t stay away forever. I fucking love wrestling and even in the crap we’ve seen over the past decade there is still alot I love about it.

This is pretty much how I feel on the matter of “why” when it comes to my love of pro wrestling

I will post my actual first experiences with pro wrestling and how I fell in love with it later. I’m on mobile at work, lol

Not even one of the best triple threats ever. Joe, Styles, Daniels or Danielson, Low-Ki, Daniels, etc. If you have Low-Ki, AJ Styles, Joe, or Christopher Daniels chances are its better than that.

The guys today can’t use their personalities. The only guy who really gets to is Bray.

ya know triple h must be having a ball booking nxt. he gets to make every gimmick match an epic one cause its the first time for the most part they are showing. fatal 4way on raw is done like every other week but in nxt its a ppv event lol.

Sami Zayn has been himself since he debuted and it has been working out for him.

Another big advantage NXT has is that the product will never get stale because talent will either be let go or brought to the main roster, normally within one year.

I always saw wrestling as golden age super hero comics…don’t get why joe hates it so much but meh.

So who’s idea was it to book a Mayweather PPV and an Arlovski PPV on the same night? At least Night of Champions is tomorrow

Night of Champions is NEXT Sunday…
