National Pro Wrestling Day is tomorrow. It will be streamed for free on Youtube and attendance is free for all that want to make the trip to Easton and can fit in the building.
The Matches on the Card Announced So Far:
Colt Cabana vs. Drew Gulak (Best 2 Out of 3 Falls)
Mike Bennett vs. Hallowicked
The Baltic Seige vs. Bloc Party (Six-Man Tag Match)
Sonjay Dutt vs. Eric Corvis
Juan Francisco de Coronado vs. Shynron (No Disqualification Match)
Eddie Kingston vs. Francis O’Rourke
Heidi Lovelace vs. Joe Pittman (For Wrestling is Heart’s La Copa)
Also scheduled to appear, Maria Kanellis, The Colony (Fire Ant and Green Ant) and Los Ice Creams, and if the videos released on Wednesday are saying what most think they are, a ton of major surprises for the
CHIKARAverse.
This will be a great free event for us to watch and give “the indies” a try, the stream provider is going to be able to handle the traffic and the price is right for everyone - free.
With that said, they are trying to raise money for a very worthy charity, The Against Malaria Foundation:
Renowned for their standout transparency and accountability, the Against Malaria Foundation is one of less than a dozen charitable organizations to be recommended by GiveWell.org, by Peter Singer’s The Life You Can Save, and by Giving What We Can.
Their goal in all of this is to raise a mere $5,000 and save 1,000 lives (price of a single net hovers between $3 and $5 depending on supplier/time of year etc.) The donations (at least online) are made directly to the
charity, no funds ever come near any of the involved promotions - so no chances of the typical Wrestling Promoter using a charity and turning around and keeping a bunch for overhead etc.
If there is one thing Reddit is known for, it’s our charitable contributions as a community. In our little corner of the neighborhood, we have 31.5K subscribers - all Wrestling Fans and Wredditors.
If just 11% of us were to to donate $1 they would beat their goal - they have raised more than $1,600 already with only 45 donors. If we got really, for lack of a better term, “reddity” about it we could obliterate their goal and make it look like a drop in the bucket (imagine if just 1:10 gave $5) and we could send a message about wrestling and our community while saving thousands of kids lives. The donations even let us publicly post where we are coming from.
I know that the vast majority of us don’t normally watch wrestling that isn’t WWE. And to be completely honest, the event isn’t going to look like Wrestlemania, but the matches are sure to blow you away if you give it a chance. I’ve seen almost everyone on this card live in front of audiences as small at 20 and they go just as hard as if it was the main event of Mania III - except when they bring it, it’s a lot more entertaining that what the 93,000 in attendance for that sat through.
It’s going to be a fun day for fans, and it’s all for a wonderful cause.
Let’s get together, watch some great matches, and cap this darkest week off with a huge bright spot by saving some lives!
By the way, if you aren’t caught up on the storylines that have played out on social media, this guy made a great concise write-up that should help you get up to speed.
