Dunno if this should go in the combo thread or here, so I’m putting it here lol.
This is the description I put in the vid:
"So my sister just got a Samsung Galaxy S4 so I thought I’d try out using it to record video. It seems much better than my digital camera. The only problem is she doesn’t want to sit in front of my monitor and record for me (duh) or let me borrow her phone (also duh) so more videos won’t come out that frequently (and I had to settle with a dropped infinite).
This video was basically to show a bunch of different enders for my corner BnB with missiles. I’m pretty certain the combo without the missiles extension at the end is the optimal regular corner BnB (omitting the ground bounce) as that jump airdash up H, S does quite a bit and you can use loop it quite a bit early in corner combos."
Thank you for posting that Mason, that bonus combo is what I really needed.
Here’s a clip from a combo video I’m working on:
Hopefully I finish my current project then get to do this!
X-factor Phoenix combo off a ground throw.
Nice! I was just experimenting with ground throw conversions myself. Best I came up with was either just looping supers as usual, or calling missiles before OTGing, then missiles hits after Phoenix Rage, giving me enough time to jump up and combo. But that’s all real meter heavy. Unfortunately the throw scales the combo too much to combo anything other than a plain jab after TK L fireball, H TK overdrive xx Healing Field.
Thanks haha, I tried doing the Phoenix Rage ground loop for a while but it is really timing strict! I don’t know how you do it, but the best way I found doing it is counting the number of hits your combo has then adding 6 hits from the H overdrive to it. So if I did a 10 hit combo and then added 6, I would Phoenix Rage on the 16th hit. I would follow that pattern until I got a kill, but the best I could get was 3 loops lol. I kept getting random Healing Fields if I did it too early or I would super too late to connect a H overdrive. Anyway, good stuff for finding the tech. It’s always fun to see what Phoenix tech you come up with next!
Is there a good Phoenix and D.Phoenix tutorial out there? Id love to actually Learn something other than Chimp out on xf3.
i’m not sure if theres one but I cant tell you this; your success with phoenix is dependent on your defense. If you can block/evade Extremely well then that’s already 90% of playing phoenix.
^This. But remember that offense is also key. Sometimes people forgot that Jean Grey is actually a character herself, and think "Oh well now I have to deal with “Fire! Fire! Dodge this!” but they haven’t’ even gotten through Ms.Grey first. Just make people remember that Jean is a REALLY oppressive rushdown character on her own.
Just play her as if you didn’t have 5 bars even though you do, even until the last pixel. Of course, without using meter but she doesn’t need meter at all to do good pressure. She also has very good resets, most of which are in the corner but still good none the less. I’m just saying, once you get 5 don’t immediately throw away a perfectly good character for derp, cash in on that “extra/free damage” and if your really confident in your defense, tag her out when she has 5 and use her with assists.
**TL;DR: You have two characters in Phoenix. Play the former correctly and the second one will be a non-factor. **
Also, Tk Overdrive is your best friend. Surprise a morrigan with it.
Tk Overdrive is probably Phoenix’s most broken special right next to homing ball o’ fire.
SHHH…don’t say that. You wanna get it nerfed to hell and back?
But looking at it I wouldn’t say it’s entirely broken. It does have limitations to it. Can’t really use H version out side of combos since it has the worst recovery frames of the three. L version is a step us since you can start a combo with it, but again the recovery isn’t the best since it still leaves her with -1 on block but +2 if push blocked. M version is your friend. Blocked or push blocked she has an advantage in frames. But it is hard to combo with out side of using burnout beak, which you don’t want to use early in a combo.
Yooooooooo I just decided to try point phoenix for shits and giggles. This video is sick. Gives me a lot of hope.
i know this is old but using tk overdrive in combos scales them by alot. But my combo off of Overdrive is starter OD
J.:s: c.:l: c.
s.:h: s.:s: air magic series OTG Phoenix Rage loop. OD :h: is a frame trap from full screen. Because of this move idk why people say morrigan is a bad matchup for phoenix…

Thanks for the combo. Usually they mean that morrigan can end Phoenix and Dark Phoenix easily because of the soul drain combo. Phoenix of course can get away against the soulsoul fist wall with overdrive M and using air double dash. But with missiles, I don’t know for sure.
wow some of u guys are just rediculous with phoenix. im a fairly now player of phoenix. the only thing id like to ask all of u, and i no ALL of u have dealt with this on countless occations, when u have 5 bars and only phoenix left, the guy decides not to throw 1 more attack and run 4 his life to ride out the time 4 the win. i go into rush down mode obviously, but sometimes i feel like a total idiot cause i simply CANT catch them. like to the point where i stop 4 a minute and say WTF, i really just cant catch him, dont get me wrong, theres been plenty of times i do catch them at the last second for the time win and im like fuck you. but a lot of times i just cat do it.
i understand the tech, but its so frustrating. thats why as soon as i get 5 bars with my 2 characters i immediately bring her in and MAKE them fight and kill her. but that always isnt how it works. sometimes it takes both characters dead to get 5 bars.
thanks ahead of time for all u guys help
So I don’t think there’s a good phoenix guide out there yet. Was thinking of making a video within the next week or 2. I made some bullet point ideas of stuff I want to try and get in there. Any ideas, inputs?
Here’s what I was thinking what I want to put in a phoenix guide/tutorial.
-Comboing from grabs in corner (air and ground)
-Comboing from grabs midscreen w/ xfactor
-Target combo’s, target combo’s w/ different body types
-Dark Phoenix target combo
-TK overdrive uses in neutral
-TK overdrive combo w/ xfactor
-Calling assists in superjump height
-Comboing from Dark Phoenix burst anywhere on screen including superjump height
-Double TAC
-Incoming mixups w/ regular and dark phoenix
-Instant Overhead Fuzzy setups
-Cool combos (snapback, overdrive combos)
Be sure to post the link on here. id really like to take a look at that when your done. Been trying to get champ to make 1 for a long time. He does things with her ive never seen anyone do.
