When the patch comes out and the game stops being a contest of who can spend the most time practicing one touch kills in training mode, then maybe I’ll start playing again.
Because it’s not very good. See above.
Well, I’ve been waiting for that Skullgirls update. Not the patch, the Zone flash. We get (NSFW) fan art, publicity for the game from a fairly popular flash maker, and a distracting side event between now and the patch. Instead of waiting for that like a pervert I’d probably be playing P4, but I don’t like any of the character designs. There were a few I liked, but the ones I liked moved funny. And that on top of the fact that I haven’t played the Persona games with those characters means I just can’t play it.
That flash is shaping up to be fucking glorious. Too bad I don’t swing that way or I’d be all over that shit.
Meh.
Either way, not playing the game because a patch (that may or may not come within the next few months) is going to fix things isn’t a very compelling reason to quit the game.
Take the time to learn another character in the meantime. That’s what I did and now I got some hot “Cock and Pussy” action going.
I haven’t played persona yet, but the art style and color palette are beautiful. The animation look a bit stiff though and I think they tried to cover that up with the speed of the game. I might grt it later though…after I buy and play persona 4. I’m still going through 3 fez
mmmm. Delicious co-
wait what?
Can we chainge that to Pea/Pee and Pussy? I’d prefer that fetish over cock and pussy; I’d prefer the opposite genders party favors, if you know what I mean =P
My problem is while waiting for this patch I am very discouraged to play the game without the patch. I know a lot of people are like “just memorize the way the new IPS is and just play like that” or “just factor in the meter loss Peacock has when doing combos” or “just remember what is on the change logs” but just to be honest, that’s way to complicated for me. I need the game to actually tell me when I’m violating IPS, and I just don’t want to bother learning much new stuff because I’m worried I’ll have to forget new stuff I learned.
I was considering just going to the character forums to practice stuff that other people came up with that works post patch. Either from people who have access to the patch (people like Sev) or people who actually are able to memorize the way the new IPS works and form combos and technology around it. The only problem is either the forums are dead and people aren’t posting, people are hoarding new technology or they are posting technology about characters I am less interested in playing.
Regardless, I sometimes pick up the game and practice my resets with Parasoul or dick around in training mode. I can’t play people in person because my friends who play this game live in SoCal and I’m in the Bay Area now. So it’s really discouraging, so I’ve been playing a lot of Marvel in the mean time and I really am looking forward to this patch being released because this probably is my favorite fighting game, but I really don’t like practicing when I feel like I’m walking on pins and needles because the game is going to dramatically change.
Been playing P4A and Atelier Totori with some VF5 on the side. I got the bad ending in Totori and it’s been a bit demoralizing
I’m not deciding not to play the game because the patch is coming, I’m deciding not to play the game because the game sucks right now and it will suck until the patch comes out.
And who are you to tell me what isn’t a good reason to quit the game?
I can kinda understand what you’re saying, but for the most part the neutral game is gonna stay the same. That’s the most important thing is landing that first hit, so as far as the game changing “drastically” I’d disagree to an extent.
Not being able to throw Double out stupidly whenever there’s a lull in the fight means neutral game is going to change drastically, imo. When it becomes less about throwing x assist out and picking up on the hit into extended combo and more about working your way into a position to get a better opening in general, this game will be amazing. Just don’t focus on learning new IPS breaking combos and work on other parts of your game and the patch shouldn’t fuck you up at all.
Also, I have Peacock stuff that should work post patch if you’re interested. Need to revive the forums in general.
I haven’t pulled a “I’m not playing until the patch comes out” for the same reason I bought the game, for the same reason I didn’t quit when the game posed a very formidable wall of difficulty (there’s a thread about it a while back), the same reason I bought the game a second time when I kinda didn’t have the money but lost access to my first copy, and the same reason I play the game on the ps3 controller until my hand trembles with over exertion (I can no longer crack my knuckles, btw).
I’m in lesbians with this game.
I couldn’t stop playing if I wanted to. I mean… I could, but I’d have to come back to it asap. The month of not playing (after leaving behind my xbox when I moved (unintentional)) was dreadful. I memorized the IPS changes and the changes to my character and practiced combos in my head. I held the xbox controller in my hand and practiced my combo, pictured scenarios, how to deal with Doublecock and how to make comebacks after Fortune and Painwheel loops. I dreamt about the day I’d be able to play again (until I caved and spent food money).
I don’t know how many people feel this way, about this game or any other, but I thought I’d just share this. It just feels like no matter who I play and what things they are abusing, I’m having fun.
The game is changing drastically. The game went from, “you only needed one or two openings to KO a character if you worked hard and had good execution” to “you need to get several resets and openings to KO characters”. Watch the old Mike Z vs. Severin matches, those matches back in the game were advantageous to Severin, while now they are in favor of Mike Z (with the patch). Now there’s less reward for spending a lot of time in the lab and learning advanced fancy swag combos (the way Severin played) and more of a reward for landing several resets (the way Mike plays). Not even saying it’s a bad thing, because as much as I love fancy combos, when I played Sev, I realized how salty CKCs are in a game like SG.
But my main point is I don’t really know how to practice right now. I wish there were some Parasoul and Valentine players that could just post some new combos I can practice that provide optimal damage based on the new patch.
just practice resets and ways to open people up then. those are pretty much all going to be exactly the same.
in reality it will most likely take less than 1 day to figure new bnbs for each character, and an extra day or so to really grind it into muscle memory. im like you and i need the game to tell me when im breaking IPS, ive kinda thought a little about some combos but havent put any practice in on them in training. neutral game+matchups is all going to be the same anyway. the main thing is youre likely gonna see resets a lot more often so getting used to seeing them and when to expect them will still be relevent when the patch hits, and the only way to do that is by playing the game tbh.
all i will need to do is learn new combos instead of new combos/matchups/resets/gimmicks etc etc.
Honestly, the game will probably fall to one/two resets for characters at equal ratio and a super/dhc on the end of a successful reset to kill. This idea that combos will no longer hurt is wrong, imo. If you make up shit now, keeping in mind the limits of the patch, you’ll see that clean hits into longer, meterless combos still do like 40%/50% depending. I think meterless touch death scenarios will be impossible though, unless it’s 1 v 3.
Post patch looks like a game that will force players into situations where they have to actually mix-up instead of playing like Marvel 3 (fish for one hit into tod). You can play like that now, and it’s hella fun, but then you’re making it harder on yourself in a way.
So I’ve sort of been away from SRK for awhile, my understanding is the patch has been send and we’ll be getting it fairly soon?
No information on the patch yet. The last thing Mike Z said was it’s been tied up and he can’t give any definite info. We’ll hear from him when we can, I assume. He’s been really good at communicating with the SRK forums.
Then I’ll probably never play this game again.
There’s an issue with the patch, but they can’t or won’t* say what it is, so its in limbo
(*yes I know the official line, yes also I am indeed a cynic)
