Speaking of zombie children, do they… grow up? Or are they essentially stuck in the same state of whatever age they died as? The “life cycle” of a zombie has never really been explained too much. All that is certain is that if they can keep nourishment they can keep on trucking. Not sure if any other zombie stories have brought that up since 90% of the time zombies just get flat-out merc’ed.

Well they did explain but not too much in detail that they slowed down when there is no food but they’ve never ‘died’ again. I guess they stay in a paralyzed state until there is something for them to chase again…[/details]

The one that bit hershel and the zombie in the tank back in season 1 both seemed to be pretty stationary. As well as those zombies sitting down in the church and the bus.

I think this was touched earlier in the thread, but there are different “types” of zombies each exhibiting different behavior from super aggressive to lazy and comatose. They even give different names to them depending on their behavior: Walkers, lurkers, etc.[/details]

Decay rates, “starvation” and prior body composition before turning are probably the factors. I don’t think an arthritic, obese, denture-using zombie is going to be as effective as a others.[/details]

There’s many different reasons for the differing activity levels of zombies. Starving, low activity in the area, loss of limbs and general laziness seem to be the key reasons for lurkers existing but it doesn’t seem to be very consistent (hanging zombie and well zombie from season 2 seemed quite active). One explanation could be that whatever it is that’s causing this stuff is to blame. Like if it’s a virus it could have different strands that cause different behaviour in the ones that are infected. Glen Mazzara also kinda answered this earlier.

** Glen Mazzara: **“It’s consistent with how we internally approach how somebody becomes a walker and what type of walker they become. So in our rationale, Amy was a weaker character than Shane and she was attacked. Shane is full of life. He’s in a murderous rage and there’s just more energy so he’s obviously going to be a scarier zombie. He’s going to reanimate quicker… there’s just more life in that zombie, believe it or not.
We do have zombies of different strengths. We have some catatonic zombies… not all zombies play the same and we do have internal rules for that. So what you saw [with Shane] was very, very consistent with how we approach it here. Those are rules that the writers work out and Greg Nicotero’s involved with that and Robert Kirkman so we do take our internal logic very seriously. What you saw was consistent.”
