The Ultimate Dormammu Thread

Whoa, since when could Dorm self relaunch?

Usually, in the corner, you’d do your air series, come down lay the carpet to OTG while an assist holds them in place. Now, you can omit the assist, still get the relaunch, and the damage is relatively the same? And here I thought they nerfed flame carpet. I do notice you gotta time it, but it’s definitely consistent for me.

It’s character specific.

Ah, that makes sense. Is it like big, medium, little, or just wonky hurtboxes?

I haven’t really explored it much but it seems to work mainly on small characters (Wolverine, V Joe, etc). I’ve seen it kinda work on a mid character but nothing concrete. The best way to test it would be to air combo every character in the corner, then walk towards them after you’ve knocked them down to get as close as possible before putting down the carpet.

Basically, CJ has been abusing the hell out of using Disruptor assist and Mass Change to do crossups to a great degree. Got a lot of criticism for it, though as you said, if it wins, it wins.

I’ve been getting it consistently on Vergil. Did a tri jump, l, cr l, cr h, launch, and super jump up forward for the j mmhs, lay the carpet down, and they’ll eat those 5 hits very slowly, and then launch 'em again. I’m trying it on Chun Li now, and it’s not really biting though.

Why would people criticize CJ? No one ever criticized Dante players for ignoring most of his move arsenal and spamming teleports. IMO, Dormammu/Dr. Strange/Magneto is a great team based on this strategy.

Is CJ at least using the extended combos off of EM Disruptor? (j.H, j.LHS, etc.)

Edit: I’ll add that the reason CJ can get away with a pure rushdown Dormammu is that no one uses some of the hard counters to it, which is mostly the heavies. Rushdown Dormammu against a good Hulk does not get you far.

CJ gets alot of shit for his gameplay in the East Coast since they view his playstyle as monotonous and mindless, hence why everyone just chants triangle jumpS whenever he plays. He’s also not going for any advanced combos with any of his characters and relying on Wesker to make things easy so I guess that contributes to the lack of respect.

Honestly, people are just salty. CJ seems to be a mad cool dude, I just think he’d level up alot more if he dropped Wesker and learned real combos with Dorm and Mags. Or at least put Wesker 2nd, cause Mags with Wesker assist isn’t doing shit for him while Wesker with Mags assist is beast.

Yeah, I like CJ too. I would love to see him pull off Dark Matter + teleport combos.

How do you get the mid screen air grab wall bounce glitch? I kinda have an idea on how it works, and recognize pretty much when I get it in a match and capitalize on it, but I never actually learned how to actually do it. What conditions have to be met?

Is there anything listed for setup mixups after ko/snapback? Flame carpet + fly dark hole and or mass change is a good foundation but could there be more? like releasing a 1d for a tick air grab?

WHOO, Karst is back!!! =D That means I’ll actually start actively posting on the boards again.

Do you think this changed at all after what happened at Winter Brawl?

The Commentary Thread in UMVC3 general thread is flooded with memes about CJ and Winter Brawl.

I’ve seen players in NorCal running the same team but switching the order to Dorm/Wesker/Magneto (which was mentioned) that way he can still get Unblockables/OTG/Crossup etc with Dorm, but if Dorm dies he still gets Wesker with a Beam Assist. I’ve also seen it out here played Wesker/Dorm/Magneto, which still nets you OTG/Teleport Mixups and Dorm with Beam if everything goes wrong.

Wentinel runs Wesker/Dorm/Magneto now in UMvC3.

About CJ, talk about losing face to a lot of people.

Nice! I’ve seen Wentinel is one of the best Dorm players out there. I prefer that order too. You get Wesker being annoying with 2 Assists, good birthday potential from Wesker Phantom Dance xx Chaotic Flame (xx Purification) and if all else fails you get Dorm with a Beam or XF3 Magneto.

This was posted in the commentary thread, but I thought I would re-post it here in the Dorm forums.

I don’t think anyone thinks CJ is a dick, they just hate his monotonous playstyle. I mean, he really does do tridash jS like 8 times in a row to fish for a hit and does the same incoming mixup every time on every character and hits with the same 800k Dorm combo with Wesker OTG. It just…works alot of the time.

CJ’s order of Dorm/Mag/Wesker made sense in vanilla due to the DHC Glitch being able to kill off anyone in one touch, but now it makes no sense since Magneto is just as good of a XF3 anchor as Wesker if not better, and Wesker gets way more mileage out of Disruptor assist than Magneto does off of Samurai Edge OTG. I’ll test tomorrow if his BnB DHC into Tempest hits 1 million but I doubt it, though this might be a somewhat legit reason to run it this way since I’m pretty sure DHC into Phantom Dance doesn’t get that much extra damage. His Magneto seems little more than an assist character since he’s only hitting 420k before meter which is ass damage. I think both Wentinel’s composition of Wesker/Dorm/Mags and my composition of Dorm/Wesker/Mags are fine, I’d be more willing to run point Wesker if I could get Dorm’s Dark Matter jump loop combos down consistently enough but for now I need the easy mode 800k via Samurai Edge. I don’t find much use of Dark Hole assist outside of a combo extender either since Dorm is so punishable during it for a not so drastic effect on the field.

What do you guys feel is the optimal point Dorm team? I currently run both Dorm/Wesker/Mags and Dorm/Mags/Doom; one rushdown oriented and one zoning oriented. I’m starting to think Mags is Dorm’s BFF.

I think both Magneto and Doom are Dorm’s BFFs. The optimal point Dorm team is very debatable. I run Dorm/Wesker/Doom for personal reasons. I can do the Dark Matter jump loops (though sometimes the timing is still tricky) and using Wesker to extend the combo with Dark Matter -> Dark Hole -> Chaotic Flame.

So far, I like Eddie Lee’s team of Dorm/Doom/Haggar as being optimal for Dorm since he has both a defensive assist and a beam assist for zoning and rushdown.

Ive come up with a Dorm/Morrigan (harmonizer)/Doom missiles team and I’m liking it alot. Will experiment with it in real matches tomorrow.

The only thing holding CJ back in Vanilla was Dormammu’s inability to hit confirm, IMO.

This is a nice team except you can’t DHC very much, and Doom is a “meh” anchor.

What do you mean you cant DHC much? Ending any air combo with OTG pillar xx stalker flare dhc into astral vision, gives you a shitload of guaranteed chip. Doing a neutral superjump air combo with dorm sends them full screen after the spike down which sets up space perfect for Morrigans zoning once you dhc into her. You can also call harmonizer mid combo so you will always build at least one meter off of any hit with dormammu. A dark matter teleport combo will easily build 2 bars with harmonizer.

DHC’s as combo enders isnt really what the team is about. The team has safe DHC’s that set up positional advantage out of the ass though.

Doom as anchor is always gonna be tough, but there arent any better alternatives. The only really good anchors in the game in my opinion are Strider, Wesker, Vergil and maybe Magneto. I dont feel any of those assists help Morrigan/Dorm enough to justify them being in the 3rd slot for support. None of those characters really fit my style either. My other team is Doom/Dorm/Sentinel so I’m used to having shitty anchors, I feel very comfortable with Doom as anchor. I have been playing Doom since the beginning of vanilla MVC3 and I am experienced with his matchups. Hawkeye and Trish are the only unwinnable matchups with solo Doom in my opinion.

I played the team in casuals today and whilst my Morrigan is complete day 1 garbage, I could already see the potential and was getting wins purely off my gameplan. My main problem was dealing with Dorm’s options after the stare down at the beginning of a match. Dorms slow walk speed and limited escape options make him vulnerable. Thats why I was thinking of switching Morrigan to the uppercut assists so I could escape for free and get a stalking flare on the screen for free space to charge powers and call hidden missiles. The problem with that is you’re using meter at the beginning of a game and youre not building meter quick enough to switch into morrigan anytime soon. Harmonizer calls in between pillars xx stalker flare was working very well and once the strategy gets going its hard to stop.

I feel like the team has alot of potential. I just need to work out how to get space safely with Dorm/missiles at the beginning of the round when Im playing against stuff like Vajra, Zero and rushdown dive kick/tri dash characters.
