The Ultimate Dormammu Thread

i know this might be a blasphemous thing to ask on the dorm threads… but should i drop dorm?

my current playstyle with him is keepaway and charging a lot of dark spells and placing a lot of towers. skrull assist + doom assist are pretty good at getting people off dorm. but i’m getting bodied by deadpool/hawkeye spammers, and also by dark strider. any tips? or should i just drop him for my original main in vanilla, Wesker. lol

You need to change up your style when it comes to different chars. I play a primarily keepaway style but once I see certain characters on the screen, I have to play differently. Against characters you can’t zone, you need to rush them down.

You’re going to learn how to rush down with Dorm when it comes to going against the likes of Deadpool and Hawkeye. Dorm may have a lot of options when it comes to zoning/keepaway, but as Karst says, he isn’t the best at zoning and keepaway.

Against Strider, you can punish Vajra H (teleport kick). But, other than that, you might as well try and snap him in to not let him abuse XF.

Might have to suck up my pride and try Dormammu as an Anchor. I’m probably just so used to him in the 2nd spot that I just hate him as an Anchor.

Thinking about Nova/Task/Dormammu. I was thinking about Task last to give Dormammu access to arrows, but the DHC from Nova from Task is pretty gross. I’ll definitely mess around in the lab with the team though.

I miss playing Dormammu more frequently, I’ve just been really antsy about getting him on the right team or a team I feel he does well in.

What about Dorm/Nova/Task or Nova/Dorm/Task?

I like Nova with Task Arrows but I’m not a big fan of how Dorm DHCs into Nova full screen. Also depending on the situation you might (accidentally) give up red life DHC’ing from Dorm to Nova full screen.I might mess around with Dorm/Task/Nova that way Dorm gets Arrows for movement/mixups, and Centurion Rush M for Unblockables/OTG. Taskmaster would get Unblockables + OTG with Nova’s Centurion Rush M and Nova gets 1 activation of XF3 Infinite and ridiculous damage/speed boost.

Nova/Dorm/Task could work if you cancel H Loop into Nova Force early so you can get a Stalking Flare/Dark Spell mixup. That DHC works the same way I used to run Wolverine + Dorm. Air Super xx Stalking Flare then load up on charges or load up on some and lay down Flame Carpet.

Hopefully I’ll get some time in lab to test all of this out

Hey all, haven’t had any time to play in a few weeks due to school. It’ll probably be a few months before I can give the thread a substantial update, unfortunately.

IMO, his assists should be:

  1. Power of the Destructor; basically, the Liberation assist, but it would be more flexible since you can build charges to make the assist useful when he’s not on the screen. If you have a specific Liberation combo setup you love, you can still set it up, since the PotD input makes him unleash his Liberation when stocked.

  2. Purification, with tracking a la Blackheart. Pre-release, when we knew almost nothing, I dreamed of Sentinel backed by Purification - oi.

  3. Dark Matter; I just feel like he needs a basic, all-purpose horizontal coverage assist.

Flame Carpet would be good, too. I would miss Dark Hole in some setups, but not enough to want to keep it around over the above three.

Welcome back, Karst. I do like to know what you think about MastaCJ winning APEX and his “auto-pilot” Dorm strategy.

Does anybody have any good combos off of Dark hole after you link a lp? Not a AA DarkH. I tried to start the new flight combo after link lp,cr.hp,s but it seems like the hitstun is to high. I figured even if it scaled if a combo could be found that either does good damage or builds good meter would be really good for dorm to transition from def to atk.

this would be sick and surprisingly, not OP.

I’m curious to what everyone that plays Dorm thinks about this really.

My friends and I recently bumped into a Dorm (point) player online that abused the hell out of Air Dash Crossups + Doom Beam over and over. It works? Yes. It’s effective? Yes. My problem with it was that was the only thing that player knew how to do. He used that setup for the first hit and the Wesker Gun OTG to slightly extend the combo.

Dorm is capable of SO much more now, it saddens me to see him played almost exactly the same as he was in Vanilla.

Also I had the feeling this online player was a pad player because his Air Dashing with Dorm was so ridiculously precise that I it almost had to be 1 button dash mapped.

I’m a pad player myself and I mapped dashing to 1 button, but I’m not always that precise. I also happen to use that same team of Dorm/Wesker/Doom. So, he wasn’t using Mass Change crossups? He didn’t bother to zone with Dorm period? I do admit that I still play Dorm, Vanilla-style (but I do love to zone with Doom Beam + Dark Matter + Purification/Dark Spells/Liberation and am practicing those midscreen Dark Matter combos), but for people to only rushdown with him and not use Dark Spells and zone with a long-range projectile assist isn’t using Dormammu to the fullest. The best Dormammu would be someone who plays lame and can open you up as long as he has the opportunities to do so.

what makes a “precise” dash?

and as for the auto-pilot Dorm… I can’t really complain coz i mean, it’s in his arsenal. that and the dark matter shenanigans. or kinda like in vanilla, with the flame carpet and giant chip ball on the last character that can’t xfc till he hits the ground.

I mean, the dorm that charges up dark spells and uses towers and dark holes will always be more fun to watch, but the teleport-happy dorm with a fast as hell beam assist and otg assist to extend a virtually undroppable combo will definitely be super effective, albeit harder to root for.

The funny thing is with all the Morrigan hoopla, it seems like if we see a super-lame Dorm that’s effective (especially with Doom assists) and destroying people, people might not even root for it and wish for Dorm rushdown. Folks can’t make up their minds these days, -____-’

A Dorm that can lame out for a whole match against a competent team would be a work of art.

Every Teleport/Air Dash setup he did was really clean. By that I mean the Air Dashes weren’t sloppy, they were always perfectly ambiguous and the player always knew what was going to hit and when. He wasn’t Air Dashing with Beam to fish for something, the Air Dash mixups were almost surgical in nature and he mixed up his approaches pretty well.

Nope, no zoning, no Mass Change Crossups, no Dark Matter BS, sometimes would do 2C1D when full screen but that was about it.

He was in a room with a group of my friends and I, when he had to play my friends team who could play just as lame (or rushdown) he seemed really unsure what to do, sort of like he was used to playing 100% offense with Dorm but not really sure what to do once someone got in and he had to play defense.

Dormammu is sick in this game.
Rushdown can work with his swipes.
His mixup game is nasty, and MastaCJ doing so well lately proves that.
and lastly his lame game is still pretty tops.

That’s kind of a waste using 2C1D for fullscreen. I see that person has not realized the beauty of cr. M and OS air H for defense. And sometimes, Flame Carpet.

IMO, I think it comes down to what I mentioned earlier. If a player gets away with doing X, it takes a certain kind of player to know that works for him/her but also keep working on other things. It’s another kind of player that sees that X is working for them and just keeps doing that without learning anything new.

I <3 cr. M

For you guys who haven’t seen Dormammu’s DLC costume in action, I’m sure this will sell you on it:
