The UCLA thread

Sorry for replying late, but, yes, I’m going to EVO west and maybe evo east. I’m pretty sure Chris S is going, he usually shows up to evo and just rapes O_O

registration plus tourney fees = 30 bucks. plus the downtime inbetween matches is boring as fuck. plus i suck compared to the likes of potter and chris s. so GG ME

i am going to go to watch if fresno crew goes though

glad to know marvel machine is not actually off!! now instead of just broken buttons, we can play without actually seeing or hearing our characters as well. and they wonder why arcades go to hell…

the reason why i think the machine is on is the coin slot lights are on, and some dude actually put in a credit when i was at the 3S machine and it did that sound when you put in credits.

i’ll be going to evo west, i’ll get raped (i’m a lame ass dime-a-dozen ken) but i think it’ll be fun. i’m looking foward to the after-tourney inebrieation sessions.

ucla is cool and the people are cool but i can’t stand the glare and the sound from the guilty gear feels like it’s fucking my ears

btw the people that own the machines do care, sometimes it’s hard to go out and manage multi-campus arcades…and ucla (and other campuses) treat them like shit. but yeah they feel your concerns. it is a shame that arcades are dying, i fondly remember playing the konami ninja turtles game in the arcade even tho i needed to pee, i didn’t want to lose my spot.

it definitley is…i remember seeing a ggxx player with earplugs

yeah. i may start doing that. i have to wear earplugs at arcade infinity, EVERY GAME is on full blast or something. if not, i’ll have headaches for days.

and my ears are still hurt. :wasted: These big foamy ones are rated for 32dB, which would be enough to reduce the noise of a screaming match to that of a soft conversation. And yet my ears are still stinging from the noise after visiting the arcade. It’s even worse at AI – so much noise that just opening my mouth makes my ears want to crawl into a corner and pass out.

imma be there on thursday around noonish or later playin cvs2/3s, hopefully someone will show.

i’ve totally peed my pants because of this

So who’s down to play this Thursday after 7pm? I need my fix.

what time does xcape close on weekdays?

…hm, good question. I’ll try to check it out tonight when I get back from work in an hour or two.

EDIT: I went there last night after 8 and it was still open, so I imagine it’s open until at least 9 or 10.

anyone work at the eb games in westwood that posts in this thread?

just thought I’d be the first to thank whoever fixed the mvc2 if they’re reading this

Thanks, good to know.

Arcade got moved around. Lots of stuff moved out. GGXXS disappeared. There’s no more reason for me to go there.

packs his GBA and a carton of AA batts

^WTF, well honestly I’m not surprised. Every single time I go into the arcade, I see the machine absolutely empty. Where is everyone and what time did everyone play? My scrubbiness won’t go away without competition. :frowning:

Not surprised, either. FFA is 20 minutes away; it’s also 50c there, but the screen’s better, no glare, parking’s free, open until sinfully late hours, and actual comp shows up. Arcade Infinity is roughly 20 to 40 minutes away, 50c start/25c continue as I hear it, with a boba shop around the corner. There’s little compelling reason for people to show up at UCLA for GG.

To X-Cape’s credit, at least they kept the controls in good condition. But really, what newcomer to GGXXS is going to drop 50c to get their rear whupped by the computer in the first round? Most GGXXS casuals have moved to console in people’s homes; the only thing that kept me back was my preference for 360 opticals and that hooking up a Happ 360 Optical to a PS2 is nontrivial. That’s a non-issue now.

stuff missing is currently at anime expo

So / has a possibility of coming back? That’s kind of good to know, hopefully the machine will get more play in the fall. Depending on my schedule, I’ll definitely be playing it.
