It’s not unnecessary, you just don’t know what it does. That’s not the same thing.
Personally, it helps me to know how the video is doing, as otherwise the page couldn’t track individual downloads. It helps Blaze monitor his site traffic to know what to fix. It keeps random assclowns from polluting the site anonymously. That’s just the obvious stuff.
YOU HAVE TO REGISTER FOR SRK. Actually, it takes one extra step to register for SRK, and it’s just a bloody forum. If people are too lazy to fill out one form one time, then fuck 'em and everyone who looks like 'em. No whining allowed.
It’s like having to fill my name to download quicktime. Or listening to some lame pitch before getting a free copy of the LA times at the supermarket. I mean wtf, it’s free, right? Just give it to me. That’s how internet consumer’s think, and I’m one of them, so yes; to me it is an unnecessary step. Granted the info given to apple go to much less innocent causes (read: marketing) than combovideos.
Registering for a forum is not an unnecessary step to the apathetic surfer. It obviously protects users from being impersonated. Ppl tend to care more about their privacy than helping webmasters and video authors. Just think about ergonomics when you make a site, that’s my point, I think. If you build a product that makes it harder for a user to do something than he/she percieves as necessary, then you can’t blame the user for not liking it. But since it’s a site, and nobody’s paying to use the product; you can say ‘fuck everyone’.
It’s their problem if they don’t want to register, but you can’t be surprised that ppl whine. Nor can you complain about ppl complaining.
Heh, whenever I’m there playing GGXX, I can always here Mike Z telling people not to play it. The only thing that I’ve been looking forward to in CFJ is using Guy in his Alpha 1 style.
That’s complete bullshit. I’m not ALLOWED to be exasperated by someone not willing to take the 30 seconds to register at CV before they start LEECHING THE SHIT out of the site? I don’t have anything to do with the running of the site, and it’s still ludicrous to me. It’s not a free copy of a 25c newspaper. It’s access to GIGS AND GIGS of videos one normally can’t find elsewhere.
If people didn’t register, the site wouldn’t run as well as it does. You were not put on this world to GET it, Mr Burton. And if you can’t manage to take 30 seconds to register first then here’s a Pro Tip: You have no business on the site. Good riddance.
It sounds (well, it LOOKS, cus I can’t actually hear you) like you’re getting aggitated. So, partly because of that and partly because we’re not really disagreeing anyway, I’m not gonna say anything (about cv at least).
I could’ve sworn I saw an A-Board for a Kendo club on Bruin Walk a couple weeks ago, complete with images of their characteristic mask and armor. I know for sure there’s a Fencing club, too, if you’re just looking for any kind of swordplay.

I’ve never seen any ads or whatever for Go club, but every now and then (Tues/Thurs 5-7) I go to the lounge in Ackerman and watch 2 guys play Go. They might be the Go club. I kind of want to try Kendo, but I’m sticking with fencing. There’s someone I have to beat.

Technically they do, in the same sense that if I buy a box of Legos X-Wing and never put it together, technically I got a X-Wing model. Same situation at the UCLA arcade… they got the machine in parts, just no one’s put the cursed thing together yet. It’s sitting against the wall with a “COMING SOON!” sign and another one saying something about the cabinet being unstable and please don’t lean on it. Metal Slug 5 went missing when CFJ came in (good riddance).
