Combos are fun, but maybe you should work on being more solid with the basics than being concerned with combos. To be really good at this game, you have to be solid with combos, reaction, footsies, etc. But if you want to win consistently, combos are actually the least necessary of everything you need. If you can’t keep people off of you, or can’t stop someone from zoning you, or can’t work your way in to get an untechable knockdown, then being able to execute a combo means nothing.
We look at what a character can do with mixups and everything and just wanna go straight in, but the best method to learn a character would be the basics. What are the safe jumps. How fast are the pokes. Can they combo into an untechable. Everyone can do damage in this game.
I’d actually like to see someone pick up Gief. He’s such a basic character (unblockables, invincible AA with no directional input needed, massive damage, great pokes). I’m not trying to down Bob or his Gief, but having someone who plays a less predictable, lame, or in any way different style couldn’t hurt the community.
I don’t have the drive nor time to “be really good at this game”. I always have a blast learning a a new character and that is all im looking for atm until deez new games come out. Gen, lol maybe. Get raped by a putrid old man. w/e its not a big deal, you’re all free anyways <3
I completely understand where you’re coming from, Ohsup. We’ve had conversations that go in both directions. We’ve talked about how fun the social aspect is, where you get to hang with diverse, cool people. We’ve also conversed about how it’s just fun to watch good people play against one another as well. Top level play is great to watch.
But you also talk about getting better and what comes with that. My point is, I know you’re disappointed after losing in tournies, as is anyone else. So if you’re serious, I hope not to see the “this sucks, I’m ready to go” face when you’re not doing well.
I respect either direction you take, because I enjoy playing you at any rate. Plus, you’re a grown man. Respecting your decision is my only option lol
Why don’t u pick up gief then?
Bob gief might be predictable(walking forward), but his is a come back gief. I always have a life lead on him, and he often finds creative way to come back. If a gief want to play lame, then it’s our responsibility not to give then the life lead.
I’d say try not to focus too much on beating other(the W & L) but instead focus on facing & beating ur old self. Like how can I not get frustrate after losing. How can I beat some of the lame tactics that’s use against me. How can I incorporate all the tools of a character into a strategy. For example I always have difficulty facing ryu reversal srk after u block my jumping attack. I think about it and I hope I have a solution to that. Try it on me.
grown. ass. man.(shout outs to prince!) no one likes losing in tournaments, but thats not why i want to change. im literally just bored but dont want to stop playing yet lol. appreciate it though breh
Fallen Charlie heaves himself into the conversation, then completely misses the point.
First, I never said Bob’s play was in any way bad. I made no effort to explain his playstyle, neither negatively nor positively
Second, I’m not interested in taking on a new character atm. Cammy and Ryu already provide enough of a challenge to me. I’m still working on augmenting my ability with them. The only reason I brought up Gief was because Ohsup asked for suggestions.
Lastly, kiss my butt. Not sure why. Just do it. Nike.
yo I’m new to the area. just trying to find local casuals or level up sessions. i see there’s a spot in st Pete but that’s all i know of. any other places anyone can recommend?
