thanks bro, I haven’t seen all you guys since that gdlk EVO stream at Rob’s. Looking forward to this Saturday.

So fucking bored at home that I wrote this offline to copy and paste it. Good Games to all on Sunday. I’d like to get into it a bit into detail and do a brief write-up on most of the matches I was involved in. Well, for those who have SRK accounts. I don’t believe that dude Brandon does, so I’ll skip him.

First thing I wanna say is, whenever you play someone, you have to try to understand the matchup in addition to who you’re playing. Whenever you try something that doesn’t work consistently, you have to change. This has nothing to do with any specifics that I may have seen. It’s just something that should be considered.

Also, you have to think about what works in a matchup, and what you generally should be doing, unless what you’re doing is already working, which probably means you are doing what you should be doing. You have to play certain ways against certain characters, and not doing so against sound players should net you a loss.

I’ll use Blanka as an example since we have quite a few of them. If you don’t have a move that punishes the Blanka ball, like a rush punch or spiral arrow, then you have try to move Blanka to the corner and punish once you get him there. Jab or block his rolls until all of his rolls are unsafe. Once you get him far enough into the corner, you can punish his ball whether it hits or blocks you. Of course there’s much more to it than that. Especially since the Blanka player knows all of this as well. There’s a point in there. I hope it wasn’t missed.

The whole point of this RR isn’t so we can throw money at the three people who will eventually win. The money is a minor incentive. It’s not so we can hang out with the people we like. This is just also an incentive. It’s so we can develop the habit of being able to play in serious situations. And so we can get used to matchups. And this is a community of gamers. We’re designed to make one another stronger. There should be no gaming secrets. The smart thing in playing a match with someone is if someone isn’t punishing you for the unsafe things you do, then you should continue to do them. But know that you will develop the habit of doing that unsafe move, and when you play someone who has the reactive skills and the knowledge to punish the move, it can potentially mindfuck you.

Like I said, we’re a community. The strongest player in a weak community is still a scrub. You put that same strong player against a weaker player of a strong community, and it is likely that the player from the weaker community will get blasted. The point is, we’re all here to make each other stronger. So don’t be afraid to help one another out. Don’t be afraid to tell someone what you look to punish when you play them. Or what they should look for in certain situations. Just the same, don’t be afraid to ask one another about the very same things.

Now I’ll run through some of the matches and advice I may have for each of you.

Ixus- I have little to say to you. Even when I manage to win 2-0, your Fei is troublesome for me. The only thing I’d say is you have to hit your last rekka on hit confirms. You seem to miss that on a frequent occasion.

Pilgrim- nothing to say here. You played Hakan. Maybe the next time we play, you’ll have more for me.

Zombie- you play Blanka, which is a tough match when playing my Cammy. Actually, you were giving me fits last Tuesday til I figured your playstyle. Your mixups can be consuming for someone who hasn’t played you before. I’m sure you have success against those who aren’t familiar with you. The more that someone adaptive plays you, the tougher time you have, no doubt. But that’s also typical of your character. Blanka is a gimmick by design. When people realize that gimmick, they can usually succeeed against him. Of course there are always exceptions.

Kovacs- wake up! LOL. You are good with mixups when you’re in. You have a tough time in, which is just as much about you and your character. Once you’re in, you’re a fucking STD, my man. Even when I do get rid of you, I’m concerned that you’ll just come right back!

Ohsuplol- Evil Ryu is potentially a good character. Better than most think. Good buffers. Good pressure. Awesome damage output. I like that you use the dive kick as your OS. The move stays active for so long that it only makes sense. Keep at it.

Psylol- I think you’re the most savvy SF player we have. Your good with combos and mixups. You have decent reactions. Your problem is that your one character is Blanka and that he’s so gimmicky. As good as you are with him, he’ll only go so far. I remember when Vanilla first came out, Blanka was super top tier. And as the days went by, and the different versions came out, he just kept falling. Seems like everyone eventually caught on to him. And then with Honda, you’re good. You got hands down, and the same reactions and savvy comes into play. But you like to be too active to be a Honda. He doesn’t fit your playstyle. You like to push buttons in a game with buttons (go figure lol). Honda players wanna just sit there and react and chip and headbut and crap (see Chi-do-ri lol).
I think the ideal character for you would be Chun. Girl has been good in every SF ever made with her in it. You’re good with hands, which is only slightly different than legs, in the sense that hands need to finish the fierce, where legs need to finish with forward. I’m sure you’ve fooled around with her at some point. I used to want to play her, but I’m ass at hands and legs and electricity and anything else you need to input enough, but not mash. She’s got great pokes, mulitple AAs. The best thing is she is pretty good against everyone, especially everyone we use. She’s a decent matchup against Fei, Cammy, Guile, Gief, Balrog, Akuma, you name it. Get in the lab with her, son!

Uberbob- you gotta slow yourself down! If you get to a hit confirm, you’ll hit it %95 of the time, which is a great feat. But you tend to play frantically. Especially in the moments where health is low, and the time is running down. You’ll do something frantic and random almost every time. I’ve literally seen you Banishing Flat from one side of the screen to the other trying to chase someone down in a clutch moment. Most of the people who are adaptive and know you, know what to completely expect from you. You’re certainly not bad. But I think you’re taking more losses because people just know how to play your Gief. Rushdown is fun, but you have to remember to pick your spots. You have to trick them into letting you rush down. Be a bit more patient. A bit more safe.

Lastly, I’ve been working on some new Cammy mixups. I can’t wait to try them out to see the success rate. I’ve been mulling switching characters for some reason, but I’ve decided to just try to be more solid. Can’t wait! See you guys Tuesday hopefully!

No

Thanks for the tips, I will work on that

get raped bob.

Im getting back into sf4.

It was 2-1 lol.

Keep playing that Fei your reactions are much better now, don’t forget you almost beat me I really had to focus.
Keep it up, soon you will unlock your inner Asian gaming skills to your full potential and you will have more and more people asking for your autograph and mistaking you for Fudo or Daigo at the next major.

Yo POS, you and me Ft5 tonight grudge match, I need to take my frustration out on somebody after work might as well be you :badboy:

welcome back, come to SG and level up if you can make it

I didn’t say I beat you 2-0. I said even when I manage to, it’s hard work. But I got you and Ohsuplol confused. I beat him 2-0 and both matches were close. Sometimes 2-0 just isn’t indicative of how a match really went. I believe both times we both won a round, and it was down to pixels of health

Before i can make it out anywhere i gotta get my shit together and make my car street legal. And im waiting for my quanba dual system stick to get here from somewhere in asia lol. Till then its xbl til someone gives me a ride. Or i cqn host at my place when there iant a serenity casuals goin on. I really do need to level up big time.
