The Super Mario Maker thread - March 9th Update: Keys Finally Found

My first Airship Level- ***“Battleship 1”

I feel like I might need to turn down the auto-scroll a bit to give the player time to think, but it’s essentially a gauntlet of bullet hell, so maybe not.

Made another one

…Has anyone noticed that the game actually is saying the name of the item or enemy you place in your stages? I’m only just now realizing this.

I’ve waited a long time for this…

play my shenanigans level!

Ghost House Short

just wanted to upload something before too much time passed. Wanted to make it longer but alas.

I thought @SWBeta had a Wii U?

Ok Finally finished my SMB 3 ghost house. Tried to make it somewhat creepy but fun with moderate challenge. Very small amount of BS but easily passable.

So far I believe this is my longest level. I think my most intricate still goes to Doomship for the multiple paths.

I was reading up on how to unlock more capacity to upload levels and it goes like this, so far:

Start: 10 levels
50 stars: 20 levels
150 stars: 30 levels

Also, if you delete a level that gained stars, you KEEP those stars. This was a concern of mine because I want to tinker with a couple of my levels and re upload them, but I didn’t want to lose my overall star count. Apparently, you don’t lose them.

Unfortunately, you can’t unstar a level you granted a star to. When I first started out I was handed out stars like candy to nearly everyone if the level was at least serviceable. I didn’t realize they would all clutter my favorites list with no way to remove them. Oh well, from now on I’ll reserve my stars to SRKers (to help support our group so we can upload more levels) and to other great levels I come across doing the 100 Mario Challenges.

Since my first level was perfection given form I think it’s time I move onto Disturbing shit. Gonna make the most disturbing levels and most painstakingly annoying to play levels in Mario history.

I suggest playing Davidstar’s for influence.

The only inspiration I need is booze.

Nothing can top that Waluigi level. That made me feel empty inside and I started to contemplate my own existence.

Also I think Mario’s elbows probably smell like old celery.

Geoff the heroes level was better.

Geoff the Hero’s Youtube video of his level is better than the level. It’s a really excellent Youtube video, but the level would be immensely better with, y’know, a mushroom or something that removes at least one instadeath factor.

Mainly because of the really tight timing on that Thwomp, which is basically the final actual challenge in the level. And which comes after a whole bunch of running and standing on platforms and fiddly jumping - even with the shortcut in the beginning.

I mean, man. You can’t put a Kaizo Mario obstacle that far into a level when it’s so boring to go through the rest of the level again, and again, and again. You master those first two obstacles fairly fast, and after that it’s just that frickin’ Thwomp that takes too long to get to.

(Geoff the Hero’s level also “fails” in that it needs narration to get its full point across while also assuming automatically that you care about children and having children. I honestly laughed by the end of it because I don’t.)

Meanwhile, the Waluigi level was just wonderfully dark, not just literally but because it started off light and then got its point across without any narration and played on Nintendo’s own canon for Waluigi. He already knows he’s never going to be good enough or ever accomplish anything because he embodies all of Luigi’s bad qualities. He’s basically the Danny DeVito twin from Twins to Luigi’s Arnold Schwarzenegger…when Luigi is already himself Danny DeVito to Mario’s Arnold Schwarzenegger and constantly already gets crap despite having redeeming qualities…that Waluigi lacks and knows he lacks.

Just don’t go Kaizo. I’m already sure everyone is doing that.

Your all going too deep in the Mario lore.

Kaizo is boring. My painstakingly annoying levels are just forcing you to do dumb shit to proceed. Not forcing you to do almos impossible jumps and tricks just to do something simple.

(Perhaps I am. My point stands about the flaws in Geoff’s levels though to me.)

I’d ask you to define what you count as “dumb shit” if you’re excluding Kaizo, but I imagine that would spoil the surprise.

Well, it’s supposed to be a parody. If you actually play it, going through the “Not so far” door at the beginning puts you in a room where you’re insulted and then you die.

It’s a perfectly funny and fun level on its own. It’s just that it puts a totally unnecessary Kaizo in the middle that ruins it.

Kaizo Mario levels are inherently bad game design… I hate that kind of shit.

I’m sure Nintendo is going to release some updates for this game in the future because as much content that is packed into the game, I’d love to see more. Like slopes because Super Mario Bros. 3 feels naked without those. Also, Where is the Frog and Hammer Suit? The Penguin Suit? I even miss my Athletic themes from Super Mario Bros. 3 and World.
