Hello all I am a noob. I recently purchased a stick for the first time and doing so became terrible with my previous main (ibuki). Even though I was never really good with her to begin with as I began playing SF with the release of AE, yes any at all i was a cod player before this… I switched to Bison with the change to stick and have begun my journey to getting him up to a B rank (or higher). So far I have 50 matches played with him where I have won 30. While I feel like Im ok I still feel crappy and am making this thread to help myself get better. I will mostly be documenting my ranked sessions here and writing what gave me trouble and what I feel I did better with in a blog like way… Feel Free to comment and help me out lol.
Start:
I currently have 1377 Bp with 1066 PP.
I have a lot of problems with extreme rushdown characters (twins) and turtles (guile, Dhalsim, and Kens). I would like to have some tips on how to play those playstyles more effectively.
1st session:
10 games 8 wins 2 loses. I played very well in this session, I think thats because I mainly played terrible players. I even perfected some guy 3 times in a row! thats the first time Ive ever done that. I played a ton of Guys and Ibukis (like 7 combined) strangely and they couldn’t handle the pressure I put on with cr mk xx LSK. I am very happy with how I played today and actually felt decent. Im sure this wont last so im stopping while Im ahead. The Ibukis were all terrible so they were just were stat padding basically. I did manage to beat a good el fuerte but I spammed Ex HS and he couldn’t figure out to not jump. I felt badly about that… over all it was a solid day with a much higher winning percentage then usual.
And again any help/criticism for this Bison/SF noob is much appreciated.
Maybe you should check out Maj’s Footsie guide, its basically goes over all important fighting game fundamentals that can be applied to almost every fighting game.

Thanks Onemanarmada. I have been a lurker reading everything I can for some time now but I haven’t read that guide yet. Ill go over there now. Ive read to much stuff prolly, like when I can’t do the stuff I know I should try it makes me mad and Ive watched archived match footage, like every scrap I could find. This game is just so interesting!
if you really want criticism post some videos of your bipson in action

Is there anyway for you guys to watch my matches without a pvr or a camcorder? I don’t have either, Im sure I could find a shitty camcorder from someone though. The quality would suck, and I don’t want to do that to you guys.
yes there is if you add people and show us replays. Do you have 360, ps3 or pc?

I have a 360 and my tag is DownRisingMob, I dont play ass often as I would like though. And when it comes to replays wha is the criteria needed to upload them? Its felt pretty random to me so far.

The other day I played about 15 ranked matches and 8 endless matches on another account. I won 10 out of the 15 ranked. I felt that I was doing a good job of keeping the opponent away with stand mk/hk. It was overall very good.
In the endless I lost all of my matches to a japanese guy who I had a surprisingly good connection with. When I was knocked down he would do a high attack a low attack or a throw. Every time I was left guessing what to try and block. Is there anyway to stop that??? Thinking back I should have utilized ex pc more but other then that what should you do?
Maybe try backdashing, but he may take note of that and start throwing out some option selects to catch you.
Just don’t be too predictable is what I’m getting at.

I tried to backdash a couple of times and he got huge combos on me every time. This guy had like 4k PP so he was really good.

What character was he playing?
Use the option select throw break and hit confirm to BnB scissor kick combo. Depending on the char ex PC does not always get you out of the position for free. If the guy is doing command throws then the occasional neutral jump HK to BnB block string or combo will give you some form of options out. After playing a bunch it really seems like it boils down to character familiarity after getting basics and spacing down.

He was playing a couple he switched between Vega and Elf mainly. He did not use his main I could tell.
And Those were the first times I really played those characters so I had no knowledge about them.
Don’t get too aggressive with the pokes against Vega, space more, anti air with jump back HK
Haven’t fought too many fuertes but a few high 2ks, EX devil reverse if you don’t want to deal with guessing game.
