well yeah when character power levels aren’t very disparate, it’s harder to win with 3-7 months of a character vs. 15 or w/e people will have had including the beta with some characters.
Alex doesn’t need st lp anti air at all. outside of ex knee of the gods, i feel learning to consistently anti air with lk knee and cr hp is the end game goal for him since it leads to arguably the best knockdown situation in the game. f hp is a beefy anti air as well, especially if you get a CC and know how to convert.
complaining about jab anti airs is stupid to begin with anyways though. rather eat 10 aa jabs in sfv than 1 anti air confirm in sfxt.
@Reason4u Would you mind briefly summarizing the patch for those of us unfamiliar with MKX? I heard there were some big system-wide changes but I’m not sure what the significance is
Urien is coming along nicely. All the rage at the beginning of his release was his v trigger stuff. But as time goes by he’s been seen more and more to have really excellent ex moves like ex tackle being a great wiff punish and way in, ex knee being a great plus on block way in over fireballs and good against anyone sleeping in the neutral. Strong damaging AA without meter, lk kneedrop is kinda like a Chun Iall in that when spaced right it is safe or even plus on block and gets urien in and is good for repressure (probably better to compare it to bisons DR though) also has rashid style crap when the lk one is blocked high at negative frames into his reversal to hit his opponents retaliation. Has the same thing off of ex tackle… Ex tackle may become one of those moves that people want to v reversal in the future as well as lk knee, also any wiffed knee, especially ex, isn’t an easy punish as he can reversal the opponents attempted punish if they mistime their punish at all.
His fireball is functional especially when combined with knee drop ala Nash that does fireballs and combines them with moonsault to deal with other fireballs.
His v trigger is gimmicky ATM but I’ve already found a really good setup/mixup off of his best v trigger starters:
St.mk xx v trigger (confirm the hit) cr.hp (opponent air bounces off of v trigger, which now has one hit left) juggle with fmp xx M or H headbutt depending on whether your want to crossup or not, land and cr.mp xx ex fireball xx v trigger confirm into full combo.
So basically if urien hits you with a st.mk you are in a crazy 50/50 situation into mucho damage. You of course don’t have to use ex fireball and can instead use cr.hp bnb into super if you feel like doing crazy damage.
He’s looking very solid. His problems are getting used to his AA, no 3 frame, no great BNB confirm from mediums or lights when not absolutely point blank range, and no crossup.
Big weaknesses to be sure but he looks to make up for it with tools not many or any other characters really have.
I think it is one of Alex’s worst match ups by far, along with Vega and Chun. She doesn’t have to respect alex’s neutral because of how mobile she is, and her up close pressure is very very scary. I’m walking on egg shells the entire time because if cammy gets in it’s hard to regain the momentum. You can just down block but it’s hard to make space to do anything besides that unless you commit to a read, which is just how it goes with Alex’s archetype. Cammy also having a very fast back walk speed means she walk walk out of some power bomb mix ups like Vega does, and if she gets a life lead she can play lame and make Alex do something stupid. On the positive side, because Cammy has such low stun if you mess up twice you’re probably going to end up stunned and lose >90% of your health if not get killed outright. As a disclaimer I don’t have a lot of experience dealing with cammy as nobody locally plays her and I don’t see her that often online, and my opinion could change.
Oh, lol, you meant ur cammy
Well my opinion is basically the same against your cammy specifically as against Cammy in general. Couple things I noticed tho
you don’t block low enough
your dive kicks are done unreliably enough that I had trouble consistently anti airing them
wake up spiral arrow is either a really good idea or really dumb I can’t tell
you stopped letting me hit you with wake up CA gj I won’t stop doing it tho YOLO
Urien, Guile and Balrog are all competitively viable characters. I think Alex has some slight flaws and Juri is pretty sub-par. First season was full of nicely designed and balanced characters.
Alfr is right about Alex’s AA’s, his jab anti-air only gets you so far. His other options give you incredible follow ups.
Not really much hype when a game revolves around 50/50 10f-16f low/overhead combos that lead into 40%
oh yea
or they lead into another 50/50 low overhead
Anti air air jabs that also lead into full 30-40% combos
Oh your turn? Nah armored 50/50
Somehow playing on stick has made me worse. I can do my BnB’s in training mode now but I drop them in matches all the time. Only reason I ain’t quit yet is cause this shit cost too much money to just be quitting.
