Seemingly fixed both my sticks and made a Ken ragequit all in one morning. Seems like today’s gonna be a good day.

Happy Birthday @Twinblades
Highlandfireball:
The best player/players dont always win. That’s pretty much every sport ever, America practically invented the sporting “show”
I know personally I have much more enjoyment watching a tourney where ISDD or Valle ( upsetting Bonchan) pull out some memorable wins in bad matches or a big upset.
A knock out tourney is insanely difficult even if you are the best player in the world.
The topanga league in Japan is probably the format if you want true deep match ups.
And what tells you that those players cannot figure out their opponent and make a comeback in a FT3? Giving “weaker” players the chance to play more against “stronger” ones means they have more time to understand what they’re fighting and come up with a solution. Imagine a John Takeuchi losing 0-2 against Infil, then having a stroke of genius and coming back 3-2… that would’ve not be possible in a FT2 because one match may not give enough information and on the second one you’re under pressure of being eliminated.
If the underdogs just steal the matches by pulling out a random gimmick I don’t think anyone really wins. But if they prove they can overturn a bad situation maybe they are not really underdogs.

3 weeks since I’ve started going weeklies again. Top 8, 3 weeks in a row.
Ayano is teasing another announcement coming either this Monday (or the next).

I just don’t see it working like that at all.
There’s a million bucks on the line and you’ve got to play Daigo in a FT2 or a FT3? You’re playing a character that’s a bad match against Ryu.
Which do you choose?
Same with tech - techs going to work in a shorter set much better than a long one. At high level the game might come down to one or two hard reads , that’s just FGs , it’s not all skill you need a bit of luck too.
Players grow as well as the tourney goes on, get confidence.
I like the FT3 at the pointy end, but early stages I think it’s ok to have FT2. Either way I don’t mind, I just don’t see the big need for a tourney that every match is a FT3.

The announcement is a special Akuma Costume with an image of Chun-Li wearing a new Costume replacing his Gi’s Kanji
Because ya know…I heard you like costumes so we put a costume in your costume
A translation would be nice

You say players grow as the tourney goes on. What about being beaten by Daigo in two quick matches from the very first round and having to climb the entire losers bracket to have a chance to have another shot at it? We have often seen players beat their opponent in a runback, perhaps they wouldn’t have needed it if they had one more match. This is even more true for players coming from regions like South America that may probably not have as much experience as people who regularly play against the top Japanese players.
We already had an entire year of tournaments. We are way past the “early stages”. Moreover, the FT3 was a request from pro players themselves and if even underdogs like FChamp are okay with that it means they must be confident they won’t need to cheese their way in.
I don’t even think any tournament would be played in FT2 format if there were much less entrants. But since there are only 32 players left there’s no problem in letting them play more.

Is there a sweeter way of winning than having Sim’s stretchy punch hit a banana peel and knock him out?
