Yeah, the game is pretty boring. But it’s still streetfighter and still the newest and most popular 1v1 style fighting game with rollback netcode to make it at least somewhat playable.

I will never understand this mentallity, it is what keeps other games on the back seat.
Good thing that i never cared about what is the “popular” game and instead i play the games that i like.

I played skullgirls for 4 years against 5 people. That shit gets boring no matter how many characters you each learn.

As far as that “keeping the other games down” maybe… But maybe those games should get their shit together and get rollback netcode? I was all hyped to get into GG xrd when it came out. Hoped to hell it would follow suit with decent NetCode like SG and KI so I bought the game and tried to get into locals. The Locals only meetup MAYBE once a month and had like 6 players at its peak. No one was really interested in meeting up more regularly than that or even just at people’s houses for 1v1’s, though I did try. Ok so fine, online it is. But online is fucking total ass with AT LEAST 6 frames latency in the best games for me, but I was usually playing dumbass 10-12 frame lag games… That is obviously unplayable and so, after a time, I dropped the game and waited for sf5 and played SG in arcade mode till 5 came out.

So I disagree that people not trying games makes people stay away. To me it’s more about game makers not knowing how to pander to their audience and give them the things they want.

How come there is no hitbox viewer in most newschool games?
How come training mode is usually barely functional?
How come certain games such as GG have hugely technical minutiae needed to be learned before you can even start to compete in said game at a decent intermediate level?
How come so few fighting games use ggpo/rollback even though the technology is old as dirt and has been around for the better part of 20 years?
How come there is still no comprehensive way to teach beginners home to become intermediates and intermediates how to become experts at fighting games yet there are people out there that will teach you way more complicated shit in a very intuitive way like how to pick up women, or how to write music?
How come so many games still don’t use ping numbers to display the latency?
How come AI is still retarded as fuck in most games and can’t even come close to mimicking a human opponent?
How come there is never any world tour style mode with fighting games anymore?

Plus most of the stuff that on your post is innacurate and pure misinformation, or simply stupid shit, outside the netcode stuff, which some of the games have serviceable netcode despite not being rollback.
Which btw, even if sfv netcode is rollback based, is poorly implemented so is a moot point.

So, Canada Cup SF5 on Twitch got around 46k at peak (if you include all the restreams, if you don’t it got around 39k). USF4 last year got around 39k…and that started streaming 3 hours earlier than SF5 did this year.

That’s just on Twitch.

Because of Xiaohai presumably, they were also restreaming finals on DouyuTV in China. It had 42K there.

So, that’s nearly 90k people watching SF5, which is “not as hype and frankly is not a good game.”

Nevermind the fact that Canada cup this year had almost 400 entrants vs last year’s 280.

There is nothing else to play. Do you not get that? NOTHING ELSE. It is all literally old shit that I’ve already played to death, or shit that has horrible NetCode. There is no other option and I’d rather play new boring games than old fun games that I got bored of long ago. So to me, both are boring. Sf5 is boring hence I don’t actually play it THAT much. Enough to keep the fighting game muscle up, but not enough to actually be a contender at the game, but even though sf5 is boring as shit, it’s FUN when learning new things… There just isn’t that much to learn outside of muscle memory typical scenarios, which is why I’ve played with more than half the cast at this point… Just trying to entertain myself.
