I think the definition of bullshit is too broad in Capcom’s world. Most of what they have disallowed is not in any way bullshit, just… options. I like options. I want all the options. I am a 3S player, I enjoy knowing that I can do something at any given point in time. I don’t expect quite that level, but I would like more variance in what is there.
More than anything, SFV just needs to have a standout mechanic or system. What they have now is not at all that interesting. Doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the simple game of footsies, but it’s lack of a standout feature is certainly dismissive of staying power in the long run.
A “Remember that fighting game, that came out in uh… 2016?”
B “Which one?”
A “The one with the uh… well, it had, uh… mode sorta things.”
B “Oh Killer Instinct?”
A “No, no, another one, it had like attacks you could do in blockstun.”
B “Guilty Gear? KoF 14? Don’t tell me Alpha dude, that’s not even close to 2016!”
A “No, gah, like it had skills that each character had that built one of the meters.”
B “Uh, I mean that sounds like an Arc Systems game to me dude.”
A “Noooooooooooo, it had white health that you could regenerate!”
B “Melty Blood?”
A “Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!”
B “Oh, street fighter IV?”
A “Yes! Wait… was it IV?”
B “Focus attacks?”
A “Yeah maybe…”
I can see it now…
Seriously Capcom, make V-system more interesting. V-skills are worthless for 80% of the cast and build no V-meter. Get on it.
