The Street Fighter V Lounge - McRibs for the good, The Purge of 2016 for the bad

Considering people complained about bullshit during SFIV and Marvel 3 was given shit for years because of its bullshit, im not sure more bullshit is the right road.

They pushed the game towards honesty for a very strategic reason. More people complain about bullshit than boredom or lack of bullshit

I know this will sound defensive but…if you don’t like it that much…don’t play it?

Because real talk, NO ONE on SRK has the same excuse the pro players do of continuing to play a game you don’t like. They’re trying to get money, none of you are good enough or consistent enough in travel to even come close to taking money into consideration, nor am I. So the only thing that matters, and should matter, is whether you actually enjoy playing the game or not. If you don’t…then there’s plenty of other games out there that won’t let you down.

Well that was a useless comment filled with assumptions.

This is more a response I was looking for. You have people that enter because “well Maximilian is cool and told me to go and I want his autograph”. Evo is basically a convention now so there’s definitely those types of people.

EVEN THEN, if people are coming out this much for what is CLEARLY a shallow game, a year 2 game with a more involved meta will inevitably be less shallow and thus more people show

Plus SFIV is another example. All kinds of bitching on twitter, Elena, E.Ryu and Yun are stupid/boring, but still show up and expand numbers. Which equals people bitch about what they like playing.

It might be more fun, but people don’t want more bullshit in this game. They’re already complaining about IALL and the like. They might want some bullshit, but the moment they have t go against it, they’ll be bitching and asking for a nerf.

Bruh just quit then. Why play a game you hate? I literally stopped playing. SF4 a year into vanilla because I hated it. I couldn’t imagine doing that shit for 7 years. I’d be a miserable fuck.

Did you forget what Elena did to USF4? Bullshit is called bullshit for a reason.

Humans can’t make up their minds. Opinions change like the seasons change.

Because your comment of “Well I’m ALMOST quitting this game” is filled with insanely constructive and beautiful. Fuck outta here.

IME there are 2 groups of fans: SFIV regulars (including any precursors) and pre SFIV regulars. You’ll never satisfy both of these interests but the game without FA/FADC and OS is much more honest. Pressing buttons now comes with a quantifiable risk except with full V-meter stocked. The FA concept reminded me of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. It was a gimmick that was fun but beating the game without it almost impossible and subsequently made the replay value nil. By removing the abuseable strategies designed around FA/FADC creates a more sustainable, competitive atmosphere and invites a much wider audience to embrace the genre.

I do play other games. I play this every so often and waiting on the first balance changes to see if anything changes. This game is rather shallow. I do not listen to anyone regarding my choices.

This.

The game is so damn boring to play and I only see it getting worse. I don’t even enjoy watching it. I probably watched an hour of majors total.

When I talk about bullshit, it’s either a mixup that is stupid strong, some sort of air attack that is too fast/variable/high priority, or any combination of high damage/safe/invincible. If it’s just something like a really good normal that does sensible damage for the risk/reward, or a low frame count projectile, I am much more tolerant of it being really good before I start to call it bullshit.

To give context to my previous post

I’m learning chun li. I’ve only been playing her for two days.

I played some super platinum laura. The person is obviously doing something right to get wins enough to maintain those points

This person, no matter what, would never stop hitting buttons even if it made no sense. Which to me, means they are basically on auto pilot/button mashing.

I lost the first game but came back to win the 2/3 and even though I won, I was actually blown away by how stupid this is, because I can’t single this person out. Everyone is doing this. I was kind of disgusted despite the win.

They took everything that was considered a bad habit previously and turned it into the meta of sfv. For that reason this game seems really stupid to me.

No footsies, extremely limited zoning. The game seems to be about who makes better guesses

Don’t we define street fighter as a neutral based game with zoning?

As a Karin player, you know your anti-airs are on point when your friends’ start to complain at how godlike her anti-airs are.

I think the definition of bullshit is too broad in Capcom’s world. Most of what they have disallowed is not in any way bullshit, just… options. I like options. I want all the options. I am a 3S player, I enjoy knowing that I can do something at any given point in time. I don’t expect quite that level, but I would like more variance in what is there.

More than anything, SFV just needs to have a standout mechanic or system. What they have now is not at all that interesting. Doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the simple game of footsies, but it’s lack of a standout feature is certainly dismissive of staying power in the long run.

A “Remember that fighting game, that came out in uh… 2016?”

B “Which one?”

A “The one with the uh… well, it had, uh… mode sorta things.”

B “Oh Killer Instinct?”

A “No, no, another one, it had like attacks you could do in blockstun.”

B “Guilty Gear? KoF 14? Don’t tell me Alpha dude, that’s not even close to 2016!”

A “No, gah, like it had skills that each character had that built one of the meters.”

B “Uh, I mean that sounds like an Arc Systems game to me dude.”

A “Noooooooooooo, it had white health that you could regenerate!”

B “Melty Blood?”

A “Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!”

B “Oh, street fighter IV?”

A “Yes! Wait… was it IV?”

B “Focus attacks?”

A “Yeah maybe…”

I can see it now…

Seriously Capcom, make V-system more interesting. V-skills are worthless for 80% of the cast and build no V-meter. Get on it.

You define SF as whatever the hell you want. We’ve been talking about how “X” SF game doesn’t feel like SF for the past 20 years.

Haven’t posted for a while, i’ll be back when the roster builds up more, maybe around the “Super” equivalent version of SF5, and when a new character is playable. I didn’t play SF during the SF4 vanilla days, and every time I try to play vanilla SF4 now, that game is fucking trash compared to Ultra (fuck you, it is, don’t let nostalgia fool you) so i’m guessing it will get much better as it updates. As it currently stands, I haven’t played the game in 2 weeks, and lost interest like 2 months ago.

This game is like a president, it’s average (or bad to some people) then a newer president is voted into office (actually predetermined, cause I think our votes mean nothing but anyways) and people expect him to make the country better, then all of all sudden they realize he’s shit, and realize that maybe the “previous one” wasn’t so bad after all, and this is what happens ALMOST every presidency, or every few. I’m starting to like SF4 way more (kinda late, I know >.>) whenever I play it nowadays for old times sake.

SF3, MvC1 and 2, CvS2, and dare I say it, SF4 . Kreygasm

Even though I get where Necro is coming from, you see the same argument being made when ST players talk about 3S.

Agreed. Perhaps the phrase “bullshit” was incorrect.

Honestly I don’t even think IALL is that bad, it’s just a really strong option, but when viewed within the context of SFV where no other character has an option like that it starts to feel too strong. It’s nothing like the vortex or unblockable setups in SFIV though. I feel if every character had strong options like that, that allowed them to mix up their pressure and neutral game, things would start to feel a lot less clinical and more free form.
