The Street Fighter V Lounge - McRibs for the good, The Purge of 2016 for the bad

Wait, are you implying that SFV is safer and less risky than the previous games? In SF4 you could literally make every move safe with FADC, not to mention all the OS and the backdashes to easily deal with dangerous situations, and if for some reason you screwed up very bad you could always pull off a move that could remove up to 50% of your opponent’s lifebar. The parry required good timing and was always a kind of gamble even with good reads, but once mastered it gave to any player a potentially unlimited defensive and offensive tool.
In SF5 on the other hand there’s almost no space to dick around. Press the button too late or press the wrong button and you eat a CC combo that shaves 25% of your health off. Your only true defensive option is a move that you have a limited number of uses of, that can be blocked or thrown and that only deals recoverable damage to your opponent. Isn’t the lack of “flash” and the focus on footsies a sign that the players really don’t want to do stuff mindlessly here in fear of getting punished?

5000 people driving and flying for 3 days of a boring game says it all. Its only going downhill from there

So basically still

Fox, falco, Marth, sheik

Cpt Falcon, jiggily puff, peach

Can’t really think of any other higher tier characters. It’s been awhile. Ice climbers were up there I think.

Evo is certainly going to be a big turning point for SFV, that’s for sure. That’s the event that even non-FGC members watch, much like AGDQ is for speedrunners. That’s when the casual-man watches and types in their nonsense in twitch chat like mindless sheep.

Regardless, if SFV doesn’t put on a good show, it will likely only hurt it more. I expect that next years EVO will probably dwindle a bit in size no matter the outcome – unless this years EVO is insane. Everyone wants a piece of that new game that’s also a Capcom game, therefor relevant (cause nostalgia).

I was going to attend this year but since SFV is the only fighting game to not have a character that interests me, I haven’t been playing. Nor have I been playing fighting games as a whole, so yeah, I’ll wait until next year, when SFV is hopefully a bit different and more up my alley. I’d like to go and enjoy more than just side games.

I’ll still watch though.

I hear you. I just want to skip to the time when our Lords are celebrated, and the heretics are driven out

Evo is catching pure momentum. When that happens the numbers will only go up. The numbers have steadily been increasing since Ultra and they didn’t increase 2x that of Ultra for no reason.

The grand finals of SFIV had a debacle controller disconnection and we’re still here next year rolling twice as deep.

When does SGDQ start anyway? I want to watch it live for once.

If only there were an internet.

Pikachu has shot way up to almost usable tier, but that’s the only big difference. G&W is up a lil’, I like that. Dude is sick, aside from dying in literally 2 hits. His parachute is my favorite move in the whole series, so glad Nintendo decided it was the one move in his arsenal that needed to be replaced entirely. 'Cause you know, G&W so OP, always winning tournaments.

[edit] uhhh, not sure why that link stops being a link near the end. Just copy paste it.

All good things come with time. Just pray the gods keep you healthy so you can see that day.

We’re already walking on the path to paradise. Hopefully the others will consider this path as more than heresy and join us there.

Starts July 3rd and goes until July 10th I believe.

I usually only attend AGDQ, but I watch SGDQ if I know any of the runners.

Last year’s EVO was pretty much the ultimate farewell to SFIV. I would even say the controller issue created more buzz. It wouldn’t be a great event without some controversy. I don’t even like SFIV and I enjoyed every second of last year’s EVO.

I lot of fresh players are coming out to EVO this year, and the game’s showing and their enjoyment of the event will likely cause a big ripple in their choice to attend next year. I’ve seen events have huge fluctuations in attendees on year and then expect too much the next, only to be disappointed. I don’t doubt that EVO will continue to grow, but I don’t think SFV will hit the same numbers next year as it did this year. Unless season 2 is amazing of course.

Skeptic always.

My thing is how can you expect the numbers to be lower when even a debacle launch didn’t stop these people from going? Is there any game that can release that will surely pull numbers away because apparently unfinished games and mishaps during tournament grand finals isn’t enough. What happened commercially with SFV should have been the nail in the coffin if anything. Which means there’s only the chance for more entrants if season 2 is better.

Unless SFV is deemed satanic, expect another spike in numbers.

A lot of new people who want to jump into the FGC headfirst. They may not like EVO. Simple as that. It’s a new SF, and EVO gained a lot of attention over the last couple years. Things may not go great, and they may not even have the best time. I’m just saying, this is LAUNCH year of a game that will likely headline the FGC for another seven years, because Capcom. Pretty sure it’s going to be above average in attendees compared to next year unless it has a great showing.

I expect attendance to be lower next year.

There was a difference, though, at least in my experience. First of all, SFxT was a good game. Second, while I did do some shitting on SF4 when Ultra came out, I stuck to my word and stopped playing it with any sort of regularity (maybe an hour or two every few weeks) a few months after release. SF4 was a game that was fun to watch/discuss, but wasn’t that great to play, especially once USF4 was released. SF5 is in a weird place, where I don’t particularly enjoy watching it very much, and I can only play for an hour or two a day before getting bored; however, the simplicity is also a blessing, as it allows me to watch a match of someone doing something good, assess the situation (why he did it, spacing, risk/reward etc.) and then incorporate said skill into my own gameplan, even if it’s a character I never play. That simplicity is good when you just wanna get on and fuck shit up, but it’s bad when you want to play on a deeper level (which I do a lot of the time).

I’m really only here at this point, because I already have the game, and it’s early on in the meta. So while my hopes for this game (this version at least) are pretty low, I stay here in the hopes that it will get better. If in a few months I really see no substantial progress, then I really will dip out and move on to better things.

For the most part, I feel like a lot of people feel the same way regarding SF5, the only difference is that shitting on the game (regardless of how they really feel) is more enjoyable to them.

Thats my point. Even when things are bad we still get more people. Which means even a less than great showing will very likely bring more people. A great showing would just be icing on the cake.

Fought 2 Giefs, 2 Birdies, a Sim, and a FANG just now. Haven’t seen a Nash, Ken, Ryu, Karin, Chun all day.

What in the name of the dark squid gods is going on?

I’ll go a few rounds in both Xrd and DOA5 if someone asks here. You need a PS3 for DOA5 since I don’t have a PS4 but Revelator has Crossplay, I’m game anytime from anyone.

FADC requires 2 bars of Super Meter to make it safe though, especially following through with a bad attack, lets not pretend it’s like some overpowered parry at all there.

And what I ultimately mean is that SFV is fundamentally sound, but mechanically a mess.

I’m like 90% sure the actual number of players who compete in the SF5 tourney will be closer to 3000 than 5000. Many people thought they would like the game, knew that EVO is the biggest FGC event of the year, registered, and are now regretting it. There are probably at least 500 or more players who also entered because why not it’s a new SF, even though they barely play and went to EVO for another game or social reasons. Next year you will see how many enter because they legitimately enjoy the game, especially if CPT is downgraded or cancelled. By then, we will also see if the game is deep enough for people to want to go to EVO, or if 2016 was a fluke because everyone thought it would be more hype than it really is.

SFV just needs more grime, more bullshit. If Capcom was willing to give more characters something equivalent to air lightning legs (in terms of bullshit) the game would be much more fun.

I can only play this game so much longer. It is not as good as people make it out to be on this forum.
