If you think battlefield and CoD are similar then you really don’t know much about FPS.
I just used those 4 as an example of how different the market is. The CoD clones usually fail but their is variety out there.
Marvel is nothing like SF and neither is KoF. I say bring on the dark ages where there were 12 different fighters to choose from. May the most op game win.
I’m personally not the biggest fan of fps games, I prefer Tps when it comes to my competitive itch but their are some gems out there. Rainbow six siege is quite possibly the best competitive fps I’ve ever played.
Fighters are really time consuming that’s the problem. FPS shooters are more about learning the maps hot spots and perfecting simple repetitive movements. After an hour on a FPS you’re better than when you started, after a week you are decent and after a month you’ve probably got a solid handle on it - progression is fast. After a month in a fighter you might not even have a character.
Fighters you have to know every counter for every character and on top of that you have to gather information quickly on the opponent. Trying to play more than 1-2 fighters at a time for me is far too mentally taxing, I would rather just be good at one, whichever one that may be.
I guess though if you just fuck around and don’t really care about deeper stratagy then having 10 fighters out is probably your cup of tea.
Another article that translates an interview with Ono. Suggests that it’s possible Balrog mains may be on extended suicide watch.
Gameshot: “New character Ibuki has been announced, but what exactly is the standard that new characters have to meet before being released?”
Ono: “It depends on the quality of the development of the said characters, which in the most recent case, happened to be Ibuki.”
Jeon notes here that his impression is that whichever character is ready first will be the next one that makes it into the game. If true, this would imply that the remaining characters could come out in any order. This makes the very next thing Ono states very interesting,
Ono: “Korean character Juri will be announced later so please watch out for that.”*
I mean you can just not play the other fighters. Nothing wrong with having options, I enjoy the shit out of SFV but best believe if I found a current fighter that I enjoyed more that had an active base I would drop it in a heart beat.
You can have one serious fighters and other MK fighters so to speak. You have a copy you just dick around with every now and then.
For sure, I’m going to pick up KOF because this time round I personally think SF5 isn’t deep enough that I have to concentrate on it that much, at least not as much as previous fighters I’ve played.
I don’t think the fighting game genre will become oversaturated but I do think people are not willing to let capcom get away with the nonsense we have seen in SFV so far. People have options and with there being plenty of fighters on the market and other games, I think the message I’m getting so far is that people aren’t willing to put up with incompetence.
“You did the right thing, Ono”
“Well that’s the first case I’ve ever seen of a SF player suffering 4 simultaneous heart attacks!”
“I’m sorry, Yung Balrog”
“It’s alright, I understand. We will put a good use on those Rush Punches by July 1st…”
“Eeh, um, the short delay isn’t actually a month after Ibuki and the story mode. It’s also another month after Juri…”
Guilty gear has always looked interesting to me. I’ve stopped playing fighters though until I can get a wired connection. Once I get one though might be the fighter of my choice.
I stopped playing CoD after Black Ops 1 in 2010 due to every CoD after that game being garbage, but my friend just got me Black Ops 2 on PC, it’s pretty damn good, so i’ve been playing that and MvC2 a lot lately.
I’m not really surprised by the numbers the SF brand is really popular. However I do think people will only put up with so much if capcom doesn’t get their act together with SFV.
