I’m actually really upset that Ibuki outfit is literally Karins dress. That’s fucking lazy. I understand that the point is to make them “decent” so the premium outfits look like the shit. But that tactic is lame.
Also why the fuck was the outfit showcased at a much more isolated SF event? What was the point of that?
The short answer is yes, people do care. The sales of Injustice, MK9 and MKX show that they care. To be honest the majority of people don’t care if the actually fighting is of good quality as much as having multiple things they can do aside of playing it with other people. Unfortunately that’s the core problem with fighting games: they’re a multiplayer game you play against one person.
Games with multiple people playing simultaneously are way more popular. Even in M:TG (a card game) people playing in groups is far more popular than playing against one opponent even though competitive play as a lot of support.
In a weird way, fighting games need to come with multiple modes so people feel they bought a game. They really need story mode so they can go through the motions of pretending the thing is a game in a way that is familiar to them. M:TG has a similar thing going on where the more they involve people in the story, the more they sell. Never mind that one of the current expansions out is was hot ass, people were all into it because they were there for the shitty story.
You’d be surprised the amount of weird psychological things game developers do to make you feel good. People always wanna feel good regardless of how much sense it makes financial or otherwise. Truth be told odds are incredibly good that a lot of the extra modes in games don’t get used for shit. But having extra stuff feels good so you feel better about your purchase. If I’m in charge of SF6, I would make it a point to add things that would make people feel good about buying it. Game would sell like hotcakes too because it’d have a bunch of stupid shit that has nothing to do playing another person you could do.
Remember Ergheiz? The Squaresoft fighting game with FF7 characters? Wanna know what it’s best remembered for? The single player campaign thing it had in the PSX version.
TL;DR: Add random modes so people can feel good because the majority of people who buy fighting games don’t wanna play with another person in case they lose and feel bad.
The guilty gear announcer was the shit. especially back in the day when they had them intro fight scenes popping off between rivals before a match. you hear the announcer like Heaven or hell…Duel…LET’S ROCK!
Do you actually play MTG? FFA, or THG for that matter, are extremely popular modes because of the meta in deck building and the social aspect. Don’t compare a SP mode to a MP mode in a game that has alot of social interaction. Also, don’t try using MTG which has for years had more popular FFA/Co-op modes Vs the typical 1v1.
While on the subject, your tl;dr is completely off. Not everyone wants to play online 24/7. Not wanting to do the same thing for hours isn’t the same as avoiding it for SP content. What about in cases where all you have is the SP content? I have more shit that I can do on SF3OE than SFV and their both fighting games.
Exit: sorry twin, but editing out what I was gonna say is too much of a pain in the dick. Just know that I wanna do something to you and you’ll never know what it is.
Okay, I get that. I guess I took what you said out of context(as it seems like you said that SF5’s success is good for every other fighting game when you mean other SF properties which makes more sense)
You think with all the praise of SF5 being kinda like 3rd Strike, people would fly from it to that in case anything goes wrong.
This.
I feel like most of the people here don’t really get why casuals do play fighting games(it may be niche but that doesn’t mean people don’t care).
Casuals do play fighting games and they do play online…but they need some level of stress relief because after awhile, they are not going to improve or aiming to be competitive level when they face off against people who knows the ins and outs and BnBs of characters while they have to go through so much trouble just so they can get somewhat of an edge over them.
Having the little things(Survival that isn’t BS, Time Attack, Minigames, etc.) really does help people get invested in the game to have some stress relief while having a Story Mode or Arcade Mode that has pieces of story in it(like Blazblue) can get people even more invested into the characters, the world and everything else and can easily make people want to get the next installment to know more.
I understand those that mainly play SF who don’t really care for it…because Capcom never really cared for lore either. Hell, SF has mainly got it’s lore from outside sources but I know that there is people who do want to care if Capcom actually tries…which they are(see the Story Section here).
lol FFA and co-op for M:TG. Do you play M:TG? Because I’ve had since I was 9. Matter of fact, I used the winnings side events at Grand Prix: Albuquerque to buy a PS4. But sure, I don’t know what I’m talking about and the things I’ve mentioned about player involvement being higher when they are hooked by a story definitely didn’t come out of articles written by Mark Rosewater who is one of the head designers of the game.
The most popular format at the moment is a casual format named Elder Dragon Highlander.
Second most is regular multiplayer (3+ people playing simultaenously).
The “co-op” one is one of teams of two playing against each other. Very few people like this format because its tedious, long, unfun and the rules interactions are giant pain in the ass.
The one card game to have actual co-op was the World of Warcraft card game since it they adapted some of the raids from the MMO into card game form. M:TG tried to do this but didn’t work out as well.
It takes a spectacular type of moron to take issue with a post but agree with the one that is agreeing with the one he takes issue with.
Good tutorials, Gallery as a side unlock, not shitty survival, useful trials, and an arcade mode. Those are the things you’d need from my point of view. Those are things most fighting games typically have.
Can’t decide between him and CVS2’s. He made the character select theme so much better.
