The Street Fighter V Lounge - McRibs for the good, The Purge of 2016 for the bad

I think he will remain a charge character but he might have a few motion specials.

If the dirty bull is the only motion move he has, that is fine by me.

The odds were already against you when you figured he would come in May.

He’ll be a charge character. I think the switching characters from charge to motion thing was more of an experiment to see how that would change the play style of the character. They didn’t mess with Guile too much since the way sonic boom works would require too much messing around with to make it function the same as a motion.

Balrog had charge motions and charge buttons like OG Birdie did so I see them sticking to that. I like that they changed Biride away from that though because his play style was extremely boring and like a really watered down version of Rog with a grab. Made sense to change him up.

Balrog’s dash punches would require way too much frame data and hit box adjusting to make them work well as a motion. The way dash punches work are just much easier to implement as charge.

I honestly believe the reason why vega and most likely Rog are being drastically changed is because they weren’t in the OG SF2 line up.

I mean yeah they were in SF2 but as unplayable boss characters. I mean fuck Vegas gimmick from SF2 was only in one game until he became a playable character.

Yet Ryu/Chun/Guile/Sim literally play the same

No Dudley? I swear everyone thought they were either Smug’s Dudley or Daigo’s E. Ryu during the final year.

What about Bison? He’s pretty similar with a few new tools.

Any OG Sim player will tell you that Sim is pretty different. He can still zone to a degree, but he’s essentially a long ranged rush down character now (rushdown character with zoning capabilities). Which in some ways makes him reminiscent of ST Sim since ST Sim’s offense was also ridiculous for a zoning archetype.

OG Guile players have been saying that Guile is pretty different too. He visually looks similar to play, but his nuances are rather changed. Ryu is pretty similar in that respect. Chun and Cammy are probably the two closest to playing like their OG selves from older games. SFV Cammy isn’t as fraudulent as SFIV Cammy, but otherwise pretty familiar to those who played ST, Alpha, CVS2 Cammy.

Claw being changed up was mostly due to how they wanted him to be more aggressive as a ninja heavy movement type character. He also was a character who’s special moves didn’t necessarily need to be charge to begin with. You can still balance his specials and their properties pretty easily with motion commands.

Actually you’re completely right. I would put Dudley in the 15% category along with Juri/Cody

To be fair, Dhalsim has changed a lot.

I don’t really agree that Guile plays the same. His SB isn’t really all that great now and his normals are downright mediocre for a charge character. He has the cool boom loop combo, but not much else. If I’m being completely honest I’m still not entirely sure where they were going with him. Is he just meant to be a weaker version of his old self? Is he meant to rushdown? I honestly don’t know

I remember all the praise FANG got when his trailer dropped. People pledging to main him left and right due to his status as one of the best SF characters of all time.

Where are those people now?

EDIT: This is a joke, btw. People shat on anything FANG related once he was shown off.

Most people don’t want to main a bad character, I guess.

FANG is my favourite newcomer though, very unique character.

They were just Xian using a bunch of alts. :coffee:

Idk why, but this reminded me of an article on EH I read the other day. Apprently Guile’s V-Skill was originally supposed to give him an instant down charge, or some shit like that. I like that idea much better than his current V-Skill, especially in light of the crouch walk being pretty gimmicky.

I’ll drop Alex as my secondary as soon as Rog releases. I think they approached Alex completely wrong, at least in how certain specials operate. Really think the new Headbutt is a waste of a special slot and Stomp is weak. He’s a good character though, if he had some frame data adjustments on his specials he’d be really good.

I feel bad for Xian that every interview with him ends with. “Will you still be sticking with FANG?”

Watch them make Juri a charge character. Because lol

I don’t. He made the choice to stick with FANG. No one’s forcing him to stay, but he wants to be a character loyalist so he has to deal with all that comes with it.

I honestly think the only thing wrong with FANG is his damage output. Not only is his regular damage low, but poison damage isn’t particularly threatening either. With his poison mechanic being new, I feel like Capcom was afraid of making it too strong, but they forgot to buff his regular damage to compensate.

I think they wanted him to have a strong projectile game, but not both a strong projectile game and dominant buttons. The only character with a solid balance between strong buttons and strong projectile game is Nash and his projectile game overall is still a step down from Ryu or Guile.

It seems like they’re afraid of having OG SF characters with beast buttons and strong projectile game. That’s pretty much what kept the shotos top tier in IV and very relevant in other SF games. You’re going to have to trade the strength of one for the other in V.

Combofiend specifically stated that they realize horizontal control is extremely important in SF and they don’t want any characters that overly dominate the horizontal. That’s why Dhalsim’s and Fang’s projectiles only shoot upwards and shoto fireballs are much more modest data wise.
