Going to an arcade in japan is equally as easy as just playing sf4 online anywhere else. Not a good excuse. If they want it so bad they should play it and support it.
I agree to some extent, just that on top of that the online for SFIV is rather delayed (in a game with sensitive just frames and OS’s) so only so many competitive/high level players will want to use that as an avenue. For example a lot of the still competitive/top US 3S players are so picky about 3S that they won’t play on anything but Japanese arcade cabs. Even all of the ports with GGPO is still insufficient for them.
Melee players have a game they truly care for if they lug CRT’s around to keep it going. Lot of ways to make fun of them, but they at least show the disparity in effort between keeping games going. A game that has 0 online play.
@Plaid_Unicorn I’m starting to get the hang of Siege. I play mainly Twitch on assault because of the bitchy drone and Rook because I don’t really have to think about anything. Still I keep discovering or remembering things I forgot, like the ability to barricade or the fact I have access to cameras. I’m not 100% sold on it because of the community (too many kids and Russians even on East Coast servers), but I like the idea of CS with classes and destructible environment. Maybe I’ll use it as an escape from OW.
Do you have any tips to learn the game and not suck too much at the beginning?
The game heavily relies on positioning and angles
You might not like it but like any other game you have to practice and like street fighter training mode, there’s terrorist hunt
Play terrorist hunt and work on your angles and position of the enemy head whether they’re standing or crouching
Try to get headshots or atleast upper body shots as fast and as soon as you seen them
Learn what each character can do so you can play against their strengths
Definitely learn the maps
Learn what each place on the maps are called for callouts
Learn where you can destroy a wall to get an angle on a common enemy pathway
This one was the hardest for me to learn but
Don’t play fast but also don’t play slow
There’s a certain pace to play at and it’s dependent on situations
Too slow or too fast and you can’t take advantage of your teams positioning
I’m still fairly new(about 2 months in) and only gold 2 so take my advice with grain of salt
I would say as far as defending is concerned, rook is a good bet. His armor drop and weapons make him top tier and like you said you just drop it and forget it at the beginning of planning phase, can’t really mess that up. For defense I recommend sticking to him and mute until you get a hang of the ends and outs of the game. After dropping your armor pack immediately barricade the walls in any biohazard container room or hostage room, the only time you really have to plan your barricade is in bomb (in bomb you want to keep the walls open between the two sites so impact granades are your friend). With rook you want to camp, my suggestion would be finding a room, off of the target area, away from windows with a good vantage point, in close quarters the p-90 wrecks, let them come to you. I believe rook has impact grenades so finding a room with a ground hatch that lets you retreat if need be is a good idea. I found when I was learning the game that trap operators helped the process, camping helps you get the nuance of the game so pay attention to what your teammates are doing, their callouts and how they construct their operators. Ideally you want to be the last line of defense playing rook or near last.
Attacking is a bit more complicated. Twitch is awesome though so you picked a good starting part. All her weapons are top tier (well maybe not her shotgun) and her drone is a great annoyance tool towards the end of the round. What you want to do is use her second drone (the first will most likely be destroyed in the planning stage) to make defenders react to her shocks. They will shoot or change rooms giving up their position. What I find is most of the time towards the end of the round most folks would rather run or waste an impact grenade rather then fuck with her drone if they think other attackers are near by.
Some general tips on the environment. As a defender use Windows to your advantage. Listen for wood destruction to serve as a early warning to enemy movements. Also listen for fuze loud clicking sound when he plants a charge on a window… You have about 1 and a half seconds after he plants before he can detonate, so spraying the window could save your life. Look at the makeup of the attackers as early as possible. What you want to do is get on cameras as soon as the planning stage ends and try to id the attackers as soon as possible. What that does is allow you to change your defending approach. For instance only thermite and hibana can breach reinforced walls. If they don’t have them room lockdown becomes 10 times easier. At that point only windows and doors can be breached and poor attacker comp can end the round before it begins if you can identify it. In the same breathe say they have hibana and or thermite but no Thatcher, use mute next round and jam the walls that are reinforced. You can render those characters main tool useless.
There is a ton of character meta that you really have to experience for yourself to properly know how to combat it and it changes with every season when new ops drop. If there are any specific situations or map stuff I can certainly help.
