Sure, or characters who don’t have them could have very strong neutral games so that it’s difficult to knock them down in the first place a’la Vega, or a universal defense mechanic that you can use when you block something at the cost of a resource. But I mean whatever reductionist bullshit you want to say to make yourself feel smart.

I think you are conflating difficulty in individual match-ups with overall design philosophy
Obviously not having an invincible reversal is going to put you at a disadvantage at times, otherwise there wouldn’t be a point in having one.
Ironically, characters with invincible dps are hard to knockdown.
Maybe I’ve explained badly, but I don’t said this MU is bad for Laura. @KarinxYun explained the ins &outs surely better than me,I think we can all agree that MU is about who get in first and who maintain the pace of the match imo. My first post about it was to explain Laura isn’t this broken character described these days,she needs to work for that chance. She’s still my secondary,I can play more relaxed some MU’s with her. Laura was where most SF4 Makoto players migrate in the early days, they’re different,but definitely the fear factor is similar when she’s closer.

Some interesting changes for those thinking about going to final round.
-this year is capped at 1028
-this year it’s at a huge convention center, next to a hotel as opposed to scattered all around a hotel
-emergency reg is the Thursday of the event
-SFV will have two days of pools (Fri&Sat), meaning you would theoretically have to be there Thursday.
I already told myself I wasn’t doing FR again, looks like they are trying to combat the problems last year though. Also no official word on if it’s a cpt premier or not. Capcom has been pretty silent on that front
If it was a CPT event last year, it pretty much will be this year. Final Round has always been THE east coast tournament with the biggest turnouts. Before CEO that’s when you’d have your big turnouts across the country for games like 3rd Strike and Guilty Gear AC.
Last year may have scared some people off, but I’ve known ShinBlanka personally for a while and I know he’s going to make sure he keeps the legacy going and fix the issues from last year. One of the biggest fixes is getting a bigger venue and actually raw capping the entrants at 1028. That way they know exactly what they are going to deal with numbers wise and can just have a big enough venue for it. I’ll have to think about going.

I mean if you want all the characters to be able to 50/50 repeatedly on wakeup but you only give meterless reversals to 4 of them you’re clearly choosing who can apply oki and who can’t. And it’s pretty stupid that characters who are built to have better defense also have better pressure overall.
At least in Xrd and other anime games every single character has access to a wide array of defensive tools, even if mostly not meterless.
You know you can still dp on wake up right, they only get stuffed if you meaty. Other than that you can block, v reversal, delay wake up timings, etc. it’s not that hard to learn some defense.
Meterless DPs are still good. It’s definitely still better than not having them so the advantage is still there.
