I agree mostly. I believe that fighting games should be won via neutral and that means neutral needs to have a reward, either being high damage from pokes or knock down pressure that’s op.
If one of these is missing then what happens is that the neutral game becomes less important and making a mistake is less costly and derpy shit starts coming out.
Starting to think about dropping Ken again. Was thinking about my matches last night and realizing more and more what I have mentioned in the past…Ken is basically the polar opposite of what I’m looking for in a character. I think the reason I thought he was for me was more a case of the players I was fighting…Ken is really good at beating people who have bad defense and who make bad decisions. He’ll punish you HARD for that kind of stuff, and I think is one of the best in the game at doing that next to Bison (though Ken is far better at anti-airing). But once better players are in the mix who don’t make a lot of bad decisions, I end up playing my style of being extremely passive and defensive, which is far from Ken’s strong suit.
So I think I’ll just go Guile full-time…but I’d still like to have a secondary or pocket character. Hopefully the Season 2 newcomers give me something.
In the meantime though maybe I’ll try Juri and Zangief for fun.
I believe fighting games should be won off reads and commitment. Reactions, execution and “game knowledge” should take a backseat to getting in your opponent’s head and predicting what they’re going to do.
As long as your reads and commitment come from neutral thats fine with me. But the idea that “game knowledge” should take a backseat to anything doesnt sit well with me at all. Analytical players should not be equal to lazy/random people who cant understand abstract thinking. Prediction is a lot like a lottery, if you want a fighting game about reads, then you essentially want a fighting game about random guessing where luck is the main tool used to win. I want a game where the smarter more dedicated person wins. That was one of the few areas of SF4 that I really did like, its that if you arent able to understand the mechanics of the game you were basically screwed. It demanded that you think before you can do anything. Thinking is good!
First character I tried was Chun, then I switched to Mika because I thought I should play a character I found to be fun rather than tier-whoring. This was back when people were still arguing Mika was low-mid tier.
Then I tried Cammy, but I switched to Laura because I thought I should play a character I found to be fun rather than tier-whoring. This was near the end of S1.
A pattern emerges.
It’s only random guessing if you can’t recognize patterns. Your opponent is not a random number generator. You (should) know what your opponents want to do and what their options are.
I’ll have to disagree here. I felt that SF4 was mainly about covering as many options as possible via OS, to eliminate the need for thinking.
Where I’m from you can’t even say you’re excited about DAT CRACK without getting funny looks due to my city having a serious drug problem. I really gotta call it “the new marvel vs capcom” or niggas on the block might suggest I am undercover or wearing wires and just fucking shoot me.
It was urien first and now it’s wake up timings, have y’all played any fighting game besides street fighter. It’s like complaining about the neutral, forward, back tech in guilty gear.
