I felt Ultra Vega was lukewarm. He wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t good. Which was still better than Vanilla where he was a super fair character compared to the high tiers and generally low tier. Wasn’t much better in the games before Ultra either.
"Who do you foresee being the strongest character in 2017?
My first impressions of top tier characters for 2017 are Ken, Chun Li, and Karin, as well as Dhalsim, Guile, Laura, and Zangief as new additions to the old faces."
Yeah, because he still has every issue he had in S1 in S2. If you had a roof with a hole in it, and put extra roofing over the parts without holes, does it fix the roof?
He’ll still struggle, and no way in hell is he gonna be top 5 - quote me, they’re wrong.
It’s just the timer… you pretty much can’t run away from Gief while he’s in v trigger hoping it runs out. Also more combos into first v trigger confirm
My thoughts on the roster as it stands is that some new players moved into top 10 and top 5, however the bottom have of the roster, while improved for the goal post moved further away.
Not sure how that will effect S2 variety but I’m excited
Any other Balrog players having trouble with Rashid and Ibuki and wanna share some insight?
Also feel like S2 is going to be really good for boxer. At the moment only feels like he loses slightly to Rashid and Ibuki, while getting bodied by Laura. Not sure on gief, definitely on the low end of my character experience.
His neutral game was really strong, and his throw game was top tier. If you could manage people jumping at you, he was a good character. At mid and low levels he could get derped out, but the at top level he was competitive. Upper mid tier in a 40 character game, so not bad.
You did need a secondary for matchups where the other character didn’t play neutral tho.
To directly address your points his damage was pretty high. He needed 1 bar, but ex wall combos were basically all he needed meter for. Also he got his damage without jumping. Neutral conversion damage comes up more often than max damage jump ins.
Execution was whatever. There’s a lot of high execution characters in sf4.
AAs were a player strength thing. The good Vega players were hard to pin down. You didn’t get into good position to jump that often. Defense was bad, but like I said, neutral and positioning.
