Playing fighting games drunk always sobers me up. After a New Years at a friend’s house we all got shitfaced and at about 6 am we started playing MK9 on the host’s 360, having not playing the game since launch. One by one I kicked all their asses and they went to sleep, while I felt better than when I arrived. I just went home and got some sleep there.
One other night I got super fucking drunk with my closest buddy to thr point my depression hit sky high. I got home at around 4 am and still sad, angry and enabriated I took up some SFV and reached gold that night. Next day, sober, I dropped right to Super Silver.
I stopped drinking at all for almost a year now and my excitement playing fighting games seems proportional to that. When I “relapsed” and started drinking a few beers per night is also the time I took up SFV again… left that behind, left the game too.
Next time I decide to really learn a FG I’ll probably have to start drinking again
Whether or not I play better with a few beers or not depends on what character type I’m playing.
If I’m playing a more strategic character that needs to be methodical (shotos, Ky, Kazumi, Shaheen, Ukyo, etc) I definitely play better sober because I have to do hard shit like thinking, reacting and processing information. If I play a character with stupid mixups where I can just run people over in two hard reads (Paul, Thunder, Sol, Leo, Seong Mina, etc), I tend to do better after a couple of beers because “fuck this guy i’m just gonna do this and it’s probably gonna hit”
Somehow I’ve started gravitating towards the latter type of characters recently.
RDR2 chapter 6 is my favorite story sequence in any game, assuming you play high honor. Meanwhile what I’ve heard of TLoU2 has me riddled with indecision whether I even want to play it.
Haven’t played the first Last of Us or Red Dead 1 as i do not own a console but i have watched playthrough of both.
RD1 was great, Last of Us 1 also fine,i haven’t followed the leaks of Last of Us 2 but seems that the interwebz is really pissed off at it.
RD2 though is quite an achievement so far as far as gaming standards,at least imo. Really curious how GTA 6 will be when Rockstar finally stops milking GTA V.
