I think Donald is the most recognizable world wide.
Despite Mickey being the official mascot, is Donal and Goofy that have been the most prolific in terms of how much media is out for them.
Might very well be. Also because Donald and Goofy have personalities, while Micky is Ryu-levels of bland.

I think that the problem steems that once Mickey became the official face of the Disney brand, they were not allowed to experiment with him like with the other 2.
The old Mickey was a nice character on the old cartoons, and it complemented the other 2 in the ones that the 3 were together.
But after he became the face, he wasnt allowed to grow up like Donald and Goofy.
For those 2, their world was expanded, they got families, were thrown into situations that allowed the writters to give them character and personalities.
To give you an idea, Mickey wasnt allowed to be shown on the DuckTales reboot.
The most he got was a cameo as a Wilson stand in for a stranded Donald on the season 2 finale, lol.
At least he got some characterization on the Mickey Mouse shorts that released some years ago that imitate the old school style.
Just saw that the US is doing a 10v10 granblue tourney tomorrow. Should be interesting

Yup, since i learned to read at a very young age, my father liked to get me comics like the Dan Rosa disney comics, Asterix, TinTin, Lucky Luke, etc
