You weren’t complaining till today!
You asked us to fling slurs at you!
Why care about knowing if it’s a wifi connection? Isn’t upload speed more important? Why not just show all three stats? Up/Down/Connection Type
I won’t pretend I know a lot about what happens under the hood of a good netcode, but what really matters to me as a player is stability.
If like, there’s delay, it sucks, but your body adjusts to it if the connection is stable.
When you start to get random lag spikes, then things are bad. And if I recall the big problem with WiFi is packet loss, which means instability.
Not gonna diss Spin over it though, we actually got a pretty good, if slightly unstable connection. No one really complained on Saturday’s tournament either.
It’s actually funny I can play him in 30th on WiFi better than I can play literally everyone but Bea here on SFV.
Upload and download speeds both matter, sure. If you’re playing online, it goes without saying (in a hypothetical situation) that these speeds are serviceable (mine are, by a good amount.) The problem with WiFi, as Volt mentioned, is stability. Yes, packet loss is what affects this.
Context:
In year 1 of Overwatch, I competed on PS4 on a wired connection. I also competed some time before on a wireless connection. Key thing to note: the wireless connection/router was 2mm from my console; right next to it. Both were equally smooth, because the connection was stable and the up/down was good too.
Today, oddly, the connection sucked. Usually, it’s great. This is because I’m on WiFi and the router is midway across the house. Connection fixes aside, the instability is what caused this, and the walls in between + traffic didn’t help.
It’s not a question of WiFi being inherently bad. It’s about stability being bad, which is a problem associated with WiFi, not ethernet. That’s why we want ethernet. It is consistent. WiFi can be fine (as mine usually is), but then things like today happen, where it sucks donkey cock.
Good job. Now work on an Ethernet solution soon!
Already on it, but can’t do anything till this lockdown is over.
Crud.
Ken.
Man, I ain’t played that shyt in ages. I forgot how to play.
Pertho take back this man’s medal on grounds of unethical behavior.
I was taking names before the scandal and I shall take more!
Wifi will always, always, always add latency regardless of how good your internet is. The fact that there is an additional point of connection that needs to exchange info with the console/PC means its always an inferior at best choice
Granted with a very good wifi setup that extra latency could be pretty small, but why bother trusting that the other player knows what they’re doing and that everything works perfectly on their end when wired is foolproof “just werks”? If you live somewhere where you can work with the router and you actually care about getting good matches then theres really no reason not to, even if your router is stuck in a room far from your system theres a bunch of ways to deal with it that are ez
u get a pass because u live at your mommas house and rollback saves u
if this were the mean streets of shitty anime netcode though, id see you sent to the gulag for that tomfoolery
Ah yes, this was something I neglected to mention because I forgot. That’s true. My bad.
Anyone on SRK who plays on WiFi should get a WiFi icon placed beside their name.
Oh, cat’s out of the bag finally.
Spinner posted 2 screenshots of 3S where you could see the wifi icon on the bottom right and none of you blind fucks noticed.
Now no one will admit that they play on the 235 ping connection!
Label me what you want, but I’m still going to ask for games and figure out how to get good within the margins of online. Here’s to hoping unsuspecting people fall into my trap, because apparently 1 hour of bad connections means bad connections for life.
So this article started promisingly despite the fact that I don’t do MK, but … it feels like every other paragraph was deleted.
But then, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe changed everything…
it was received rather lukewarmly from critics and fans alike
Wtf?
After the reading the article, I didn’t see a problem. MK vs DC itself was terrible and the sentence you posted stated that before talking about its story mode in the same paragraph.
It’s already bold to assume that you play any FG at all.
