After the horrible, horrible bungling that was the S4 reveal schedule, especially after how hype the S3 reveals were, I don’t think they’ll hide their hand on this one.

The thing about Super Metroid really is that they nailed the atmosphere, world design, pacing and subtext-based storytelling, while making the world exploration feel rewarding and allowing you to skip unnecessary backtracking if you know the game well enough. The X-ray visior is also ingenious. It just nails the essence of the genre better than any game I had played. It’s a bit too easy for my taste on a “regular” playthrough, but sequence breaking makes the game significantly more punishing, so you kinda get to choose your level of difficulty organically rather than flipping a menu switch. My only other complaints are the run button and the select button.

It’s the baseline for a Metroidvania and it still holds up in every imaginable regard except control scheme, more than 25 years later. It’s a legitimately great game today without having to make any qualifying statements about it being a SNES game.

Volt, play it. Do it now. You won’t regret it.

Since I kinda injured my back like a boomer, I kinda got some time to play SM today…

But I got this near-irresistible itch to play Metroid Other M rn.

I legit feel disgusted at myself, it’s like being able to play ST or 3S but wanting to play SFV S2.0 instead.

I really hope they confirm that they’re working on another fighting game. They don’t even have to give information. Just something.

I’ll still play the update but sfv has ran it’s course.
I would rather have them working on the next game all this time instead of putting more dlc in.

That’s fair. I remember it coming out and and trying to get it for PS4 only to see that it was an Xbox exclusive at the time. Nice that it can finally be enjoyed by everyone.
