So I’ve been taking a bit of a break since Wednesday from the game and as much as I should be practicing for BotB quals I actually have been slacking. I think part of this is due to the fact I’m getting burnt out and frustrated in general with organizing Wednesdays and not being able to take full advantage of the night like everyone else does. I’ve talked to a few of you guys about this. I need a hand in organizing the event so I can focus on just playing as well. I’d like some help from people who attend weekly. Just a few things that would take up a little bit of your time, but would free up a lot of mine. I think I’ve worked hard enough for everyone at this point to start asking for a few small things. Please take these into consideration and know that it’d be very much appreciated.
I would like it if anyone who knows they will be there Wednesday please post up in this thread. It’s not much to ask, but it helps us organize the amount of setups we need and plan some sort of event for the night (ie tourney type).
I need a few people to commit to bringing setups so the process can be a bit more automatic. Some of you (Erich, Los, Ben, Harrison) have been consistent in bringing whatever’s needed to maintain our session. What I would like is if I can just expect it instead of asking. In the event you can’t make that Wednesday session, you could just call me and I can get a setup elsewhere, but if you know you can bring a setup on the norm and have consistent attendance, then please do me a favor and volunteer to bring it every week. Please contact me, lemme know if it’s cool.
Tournament organization is something I enjoy doing from time to time. I prefer not to do it every single week though since I’m the kind of person who will not compete in my own tournament in order to make it run smoothly. If anyone wouldn’t mind taking up this responsibility every so often, please let me know and I’d be happy to show you all the resources I use to make it happen if you’re not already familiar with running a tourney.
Please pay Bob soon as you walk in. I know he’s not always nearby, but please make it a priority as soon as you come in for the night. There have been too many times where I’ve had to run around making sure if people paid and Bob, unlike us, is not familiar with all the people in this community so it’s hard for him to keep track. There have also been times when people have gotten away without paying. Understand that Starbase NEEDS this money to maintain operations and to give us a place to play. Everyone knows the arcade business is struggling right now. Please do your part to keep us alive and give us a place we can play without worries. $5 is not a lot to ask so any added donations would be greatly welcome. Hell, $10 is not a lot to ask considering the place in Berkeley wants $16 and doesn’t have 8 setups, late night play, an iPlayWinner stream and this much hype.
Noise is a big concern at Starbase. I’m not trying to be big brother and tell everyone they have to behave, but when you go outside to smoke, please either go across the street or a good ways left of the entrance or go in front of the bar if you’re gonna be talking awhile. Enough noise complaints can kill our session and force us to close early like it has for another one of NorCal’s most popular sessions. I would rather keep our late night privileges and continue staying open late. Also, as stated in the past, I don’t care if you have issues, beef or talk shit to anyone. It’s part of the community and everyone who takes part in the community has to come to terms with the fact that egos will clash. That’s fine, but screaming at the top of your lungs at someone and being out of control is an issue. Don’t do it. If you guys can respect that, it’ll make my life a hell of a lot easier because then I won’t have to “patrol” the entrance to tell people to move.
Drinking is something that hasn’t been a problem yet, but, keep in mind that it is NOT allowed inside Starbase. Starbase is a public, all ages business and drinking inside is prohibited. You can BE drunk inside Starbase, that’s totally fine as I’ve so demonstrated in the past. Just don’t bring alcohol into Starbase. That includes beers in paper bags and beers stashed outside at the backdoor. If you need to drink, there’s a bar 2 doors down that you can finish your drink at before returning to the arcade. I’m not trying to interfere with how you choose to have fun, but if drinking happens inside Starbase and the wrong people get wind of it, Bob can lose his business license.
Last but not least, everyone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring XBox sticks if you have em. If you’re a pad player, bring that. There have been times where a setup has gone to waste because we didn’t have enough controllers.
The list might be a bit much to ask for, but those of you who don’t know, I don’t make a dime off of this and put in a ton of time to make this all possible. Since I’ve started promoting Starbase and organizing sessions and tournies, I’ve made 25 dollars. That was for lunch and 1 tourney entry at my tournament at Pinky’s. I enjoy doing this, but it does wear on me from time to time. I do it anyways, because I like for us to be a good community but being a community means we all work together to get this session together. I’m really anal about how things are done, and I have a hard time asking for help so if you see anything you can do to help lessen the burden, please lemme know. I appreciate any help I can get.
One last thing I wanna add though. There will be some changes in the future for the benefit of the session. Bob and myself are working some stuff out so that we can make the most of Wednesdays in the future. We haven’t finalized anything yet, but just keep in mind that I’m not gonna ask you all to help me do things without giving you something in return. We have plans to support the people driving long distances to our sessions and bringing other people in. I’m working on a deal to get us a discount on quantity orders of Starbase’s favorite sandwich. I’m trying to plan more tourneys and exhibitions so that the sessions are hype and we have more to feed the stream monsters every week. I’m working on bringing a little more production value to our overall presentation to attract more people to come, trying to find new ways to make space, trying to create a better atmosphere so on and so forth. I appreciate all the support NorCal has given us over the past several months and plan to give back soon. Any and all feedback is welcome. I just want us to keep getting better and better.

Actually, I wanted to change something and add 1 thing. I guess Bob said it’s ok to drink outside of the backdoor so if that’s his ruling then cool. I wouldn’t go and make it super obvious but yeah.
One thing I wanted to add, please post anywhere anytime and just tell people in general if you had a good time at Starbase. Exposure ftw. Facebook, Twitter, Forums whatever. Get the word out if you had a great time please =)

I’m going to try SUPER HARD to be at Starbase this week. A friend of mine just moved from Pennsylvania and only knows the “joy” of online play and I told him how hype Starbase is. Alternatively, I have a friend here from LA who may tag along.
