The Starbase Arcade Thread: $5 wednesday night 3pm - 11pm

Yesterday was fuckin dope! I think i spent more time ranting kinda buzzed on the stream but still i had a shit load of fun…will try to make it out again next week!

Low tier and underdeveloped matchups and characters taken out, Honda would drop down to bottom midtier

Hoo: the chart I linked had the low tier numbers taken out.

I can’t leave Marin till about 10 pm to go to Rams thing tonight. So if we’re looking to carpool we can meet at my house then or before for warmups… or whatever.

I know. What I’m saying is if you take out Low Tier AND the matchups and characters that have not been developed yet, Honda would be way lower. Aside from Bison, Gief and Viper, none of those 6’s or 7’s he has have been developed enough. I think some of them might end up being in the other character’s favor.

ah ok. gotcha.

Anything going down tomorrow night (7/24)?

I will be at Starbase sometime after 7.

Pygmy, I added you to my PSN friend list.

I’ll be interesting to see how the connection is between two people in the same town.

Cool, sounds good. As for Starbase, anyone else interested tonight? I was thinking about going sometime around 8-9.

Who’s down to go to Raging Waters tomorrow for Frankie (asianxcore) 's BDAY???

If so we can carpool anywhere from San Rafael to San Jo. If I don’t end up getting enough folks I will hop in Frankie’s ride.

Peace

wat time yall goin?

Frankie’s leaving san rafael at about 1015am. moses if u get another person to go and help with gas the we can leave a little later. ltckets are like 35 at the door and 24 online. let me know

aww danm i broke maybe i can meet yall up after or somthin and btw remember that taqueria that we went to a month or 2 back. i remember them selling fries there as well with hamberguesa. no need for hamberguesa but mentioning fries at a taqueria well you get the hint and i dont think its ground beef this time. happy bday frakie and dont go down the water slide drunk. could be tragic!

Oh snap! You mean I can get Carne Asada Fries in my own town? Fantastic!

I’ll let you know wassup after the slides

Lol french fries, con mecca??

Happy birthday Frankie. Hope you had a good time at the water park!

The water park was the sh*t. So was Hometown Buffet and MGL (until i broke the Jab button).

No Mecca please

Thanks for the SRK B-Day wishes Los and Moses!! Water park was legit. Hell, everything was amazing today.

Hooman beating two people in Vanilla SFIV at MGL without jab (playing Honda) had me laughing. Good shit!

There’s a good chance I won’t be making it to Starbase this Wednesday. I’ve been wanting to take a “day off” for a while now and I don’t think I’ve missed a single day so I thought I’d take a week to rest, chill in training mode and go out with my non FGC friends for a change. What we need is for you guys to step in and make the session happen. Shouldn’t be too hard. Here’s a list.

  1. Find out how many people are coming. If they don’t call. text, AIM or facebook me directly, they usually post it here or I hear on the grapevine who’s all coming by calling around. If I get any direct messages I’ll make sure to post up.
  2. Gather equipment. Starbase has 2 fully functional setups. Aside from those, there’s 1 other XBox w/ screen (the one on the new Insignia TV) that needs a copy of the game and 2 extra screens (P’s attack and the viewsonic in the happ cab). The usual setup contributors are myself (Xbox), Los (Asus + XBox), Erich (CRT + XBox although Hooman has his CRT), Moses (Asus 26’ + XBox), Makara (Xbox, maybe a screen) and typically I ask either Harrison or one of the Sonoma guys for an extra copy of the game for Bob’s other XBox. Also, Hooman usually supplies the 1 mic and mic stand while Erich usually brings an extra mic.
  3. Call Bob and give him an idea of how much space he’ll need to make for the session. I usually do this either Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon after the smoke has cleared and I have a clearer idea of who’s coming. There’s no real science to it, I go off of the speculation of who says they wanna come, and ask Bob to make space accordingly. 5 setups is easy to manage. 6+ is what makes it to where Bob has to move machines outside to put in the long table.
  4. Plug plug and plug the fuck out of the session. If you’re at another session, ask around to get a feel of who’s coming. If you’re not sure, just ask them to come. Everyone knows it’s hype, so just try to get an idea as to if they’re gonna make it or not.
  5. Sticks and more sticks. Try to get everyone to bring them. 8 setups is our max, meaning there needs to be 14 sticks (arcade machine has 2 built in already).
  6. Make sure Bob has an idea of who’s there to play or not. Keep in mind he doesn’t know the people of the community as well as we do so he needs to know who’s in for Street Fighter so he can get paid properly. He’s starting to know a lot of the out of towners, but just lend him a hand in this department. Sidenote: We do get plenty of freeloaders who want to play and don’t pay. No one who has paid should have to wait for someone who hasn’t. Do your part and at least let Bob or Art know if someone’s trying to get their free game on. Our sessions are good because our players get their games in. The reason for this is because I don’t let freeloaders create traffic for our players that pay.
  7. Try to have someone manning the stream at all times. It doesn’t have to be 1 person the entire time, but try not to leave the stream station unattended for the purpose of changing names, commentary and general banter. If you need to leave the station, try your best to get another regular to chill on it and switch up who’s on it. Also, don’t forget to type !starbase in chat here and there (loads up our addy and phone number in chat) to plug the location for future players to come join us.
  8. Past 11, make sure people outside smoking and chit chatting keep their voices down and are away from the window directly to the right when they step out of the arcade. Need to prevent noise complaints so we don’t get put in the position to where we can’t hold the sessions late.
  9. If we have a large group in attendance (40+), someone step up and let everyone know to keep it to 1 match per setup. If there’s interest in playing on the stream, there may have to be a list if our attendance is hot that night. Stream setup is always at least a set.
  10. Finally, start getting ready to pack up at like 1:15 - 1:30.

I know the list is a bit long winded since I have a tendency to be, but that’s to give you all an idea as to what I think about when Wednesday rolls around. There’s a chance I might come, but it’ll be later on in the night, like 10:30-11. If I don’t see you, then see you guys the following Wednesday and at the Battle of the Bay qualifiers wherever and whenever they may be held. Peace!

If there are any questions or if you need people’s contact info, text me, hit me up on aim at vdonv3 or call me.

Los, what are the settings you use on your Asus VH236H?

Do you have to have it on Game Mode to keep the input lag at a minimal?

Does the PS3 have to be at 720p? Or can it be 1080i?

I can bring a small CRT, xbox360, and a copy of the game this Wednesday night… I’ll be there around 7pm and I gotta leave along with my stuff around 11:30 (damn you guys usually say out til 1:30? :grrr:)
