Ryan is right. When it’s just casuals things really slow down at Starbase. Tournaments give people a reason to go cause they know comp will be there. It also makes it difficult for me to come out and stream each and every week if there isnt a plan put together. As Erich said, a lot of people would rather watch a tournament than just casuals as well.
the issue is set ups and time. I think we just need to be more on the ball about hammering out the tournament – getting it started on time and running matches on multiple stations. It shouldnt take more than few hours to runa 20-30 man tourney.
That said, it shouldn’t all just be on Frankie or Ryan to make things pop off. Everyone should put in effort wether its bringing a set up, help run matches, commentate or whatever. just be aware whats going on and see how you can help out. I’m confident we can satisfy both people who want to play tournament and those who want to play casuals if we get organized.
I’d also like to add that while it might be fun to have casuals sessions, the number one dude we need to think about is Bob here. We’re blessed to have something like this and we owe it to him to make it crackin so he can keep doing it.

I know where you guys are coming from and def know that starbase has had its roots in just bring casuals. Shit I know all of the earlier streams were just casuals, but once me and jay started the tournaments started to be more fun.
As for driving to San Rafeal for just casuals/streaming is the same thing to me as playing Haunts at my house. The tournament def keeps myself always wanting to go up there even though i’m just a pot monster.
As far as setups and such even using 2 stations for tournament seems to work fine. I know a lot of people sit there and are casual monsters and it seems to be getting in a lot of games over the night.

Thanks to everyone at starbase for organizing casuals and the tourney. I’ll do what I can to help out whenever I show up. Freedomonia is starting its own little tournament sessions, so once we get some experience then we’ll be able to help out more.
I’ll bring my PS3 for MVC3 or any other game. I have SSF4, BBCS (no CS2 cuz of PSN), SF2HDR, Chaos Breaker (I recommend people give this one a try) and I even have MVC2 if anyone is interested.

Also as an organizer for the past month, I probably have to chat with IPW and FChamp sometime tonight regarding tournament run-times/setups, so forth.

So, I guess I won’t be coming-out to StarBase tonight. Shame too, because I’ve been working in the lab all week leveling-up my MK9 skills… and I bet those burgers will be damn tasty too.

I think the tournaments are fine and I enjoy having Starbase as a constant, relevant, and accessible location in the fighting game scene. Even if the main event is a tournament for a girly game like Mvc3 every Wednesday (which I don’t play because I play real American MAN games like Mortal Kombat).
The important thing is that there is space and easy access to for people to play whatever game they want to, tournament or not. Having ample setups for Marvel, Mortal and AE (when available) is the most important factor.
Great work to you all though and thanks for keeping Starbase “the spot”.

F-champ: You’re keeping me from money, I need to level up and make my snap in Phoenix kills to win the norm, not the exception. You by far have the best Phoenix I’ve seen and likely that there is.
Crizzle: Play Viper with Tron/Haggar and profit, I’m sure you’ll be godlike in no time and it may make the game more fun for you, who knows! I still need to play against your MSP and get bodied.
Haunts: Our matches were close, I need to learn to deal with XFL3 Akuma better, you’re a beast with dat plasma!

Starbase: The burger was excellent thank you very much for that and the lemonade soda, both were well worth the price.
IPW: Is there anyway I can get the footage from the matches uploaded for this and last week? I want to be able to see where and why I make some mistakes so I can screw up on them less later.
Always down to listen and address issues. Hopefully this will be remedied at future Wednesday Tournaments. Either way breaking up different groups/zip codes and such leads to more interesting matches. That way you get people who don’t normally play each other (or at all) on stream (keeping it interesting), instead of guys who play each other everyday.
Also shoutouts for my Double Phoenix Raging. I don’t think I’ve ever been that annoyed/salty playing any fighting game.
