so after chow one of the homies is running thruogh the dorm telling all the southsiders to put there shoes on and mandatory yard cause we were gonna takeflight ( kickoff a riot )on the tintos ( blacks ). so i ask around and it turns out a black kitchen worker disrespected a southsider in the dinner line lol. truth of the matter is that there was anotherblack guy in line before the offended southsider and the kitchen worker gave the blackguy an extra HAMBURGERPATTY. sothe southsider getsto the front of the line and asks for an extra patty too. only the black kitchen worker doesnt give him shit lol. says there arent anymore lol. so the southsider gets offended and they exchange nwords and that was enough to have broken arms and blood on the grass. afuking hamburger patty.u belive that shit lol ?

now when a riot is over you have torun as far from where the heart of the riot was cause once everyone is down, the staff outlines a giant circle and anyone within that circle isprettymuch going to the hole.
so we start running but now I lose sight ofmyhomielol. soimrunnig my ass off pastgaurd screaming at me to getdown butimlike FUCK YOU and keep running lol. finally I drop from fearof getting shot into the cold/wet grass.
They had us lay on thatcold shit for 3 hrs while they took the wounded and looked for weapons. that was a long fucking night.

This anime site posted some shit about it and now those commentators aren’t allowed back at WNF.

I think its pretty stupid that a site outside of the fighting game community can effect our scene in such a way. My opinion is SRK is over reacting by pulling sponsorship and EVO points. I went through that commentary video, and I don’t hear what the big deal is about. I heard them make fun of the sexual harassment situation, but I didn’t hear them promoting sexual harassment.
If SRK cracks over little shit like this all the time, I don’t see much of a future for them. They are big enough now that they will get noticed by people like Kotaku trying to nit pick, but if they don’t grow a spine and stick up for their own, their going to lose support from the actual community really fast.
It’s just bad timing on the WNF commentary team’s part. The stuff they said wasn’t NEARLY as offensive as what Aris said/did, but its problematic because now every gaming site in the world of putting the FGC on blast because of what one guy did, so they’re going to be looking very close at what we say and do in the immediate future. SRK has to enforce some sort of penalty without being accused of “being okay” with their actions, so as to save face. Had this stuff happened one month ago or 6 months later, nothing would’ve happened, but thanks to all this bullshit drama going on in the community and those who criticize it, we’re forced to be on good behavior until all this stuff dies down in the media.

Ugh, I just read about the situation over the past couple days. Everything is so stupid, indefensible, and hopeless.
Aris is such a creepy fucking loser, and his justification for what was being said had nothing to do with the competitive raw nature of the FGC and everything to do with the fact that he is clueless on how to interact with girls but needed something to blame it on. He basically threw the FGC under the bus for his own shortcomings. And then Marn/Christian are just unfortunately self-unaware. I can’t hate on them like Aris, but just a big facepalm.
Of course the FGC is going to be put on blast for this shit. But don’t think it’s the actions that are causing the controversy; so many celebrities/politicians make racist and sexist jokes all the time behind closed doors that you never hear about. All sorts of crazy shit gets said at tourneys and on the forums that don’t get this kind of exposure.
But this was all live on stream, and these people were picked to be representatives (implicitly, if not explicitly) of the FGC. So it’s not like some isolated incident from some random dude saying shit. These are the people who the FGC collectively thought were the right people to be put on stream in the public eye, and so ultimately, the FGC is actually getting heat for having bad judgment of character for public events.
Thus is the problem when you try to bring real money into stuff like this. Cannon obviously had to play “sacrifice one leg to save the body” with WNF. With so much exposure he could not afford, for the sake of his own business, to not act on the WNF statements. This is the future of fighting game streams, sadly.
“Rape” as a game slang is doomed to be shunned by the big public. There is no escaping that. People use this word as a slang in several other games, and it it always causes the same kind of awkwardness. In some beta testing I took part of, the company staff has requested that it was not used as a slang there, and quite a few women felt such a ban was appropriate. Finally, there is absolutely no sense in sexual-related content in a kid’s game, such as SF4.
I think the original controversy was bad and needed addressing. That guy Aris was just being creepy and should have stopped once she said that she was getting creeped out.
However, what was said at WNF was NO WHERE even remotely as bad. SRK pulling EVO points from Level Up’s event was bullshit. Here’s my thing. The people in the fighting game community haven’t changed, we’ve been clowning like this from the beginning. The only difference is our community has grown and people outside of the community are watching now. It can’t be helped that some people will knit pick at things. That’s what happens with growth. If its a legitimate problem, then it needs to be addressed. But what happened at WNF this past week was not an issue. Kotaku posted that blog in order to prolong the controversy from the cross assault incident to generate traffic for their site. Once the guest commentators apologized, that should have been it. Those guys don’t even WORK for Level Up. When SRK dropped EVO points from WNF, they took a shit on the community. SRK fucked everyone that attends WNF, not just Level Up. Why is SRK bending over backwards and pissing off the people IN the FGC to please Kotaku’s audience? Kotaku doesn’t sponsor events, they don’t contribute to our community in any way.
In the end, I think the way SRK dropped WNF, they turn their back on our region and our community. And when July rolls around, lets see if anyone from Kotaku comes out to EVO to support it.
Oh, I forgot to mention in my post in addition to how Aris was retarded and how Marn/Christian were just unfortunate, that SRK dropping support for WNF is also hopeless. For all the lamenting of how arcades are dying and praising guys like Mike Watson or admiring the self-sufficiency of the scene and not needing MLG, it just shows how scared SRK is. I write that as I look at this “Complex Media” advertising ticker. This kind of drama is like cancer for advertisers. Just look at 4chan, it isn’t worth shit for beans compared to how many people use it.
Really, the solution is very simple. Keep the stream/commentating inoffensive, and let the stream monsters in chats handle the raunch.
