If you’re ever up this way hit me up, parker…is that the guy that had the X something or other as a nickname. I have no bad memories from meeting dude or his freinds so you’re probably cool peeps.

I just literally emptied the recycle bin on most of my random game freinds. ONLY fighting
game I play now is Samsho and that’s irregular at best. But hey I’m always down to chill with cool peeps.

For those interested, there is a SBO-Style invitation-only Samurai Spirits tournament coming up this December to determine the best SS player in Japan!

The final tournament, which will take place on December 4th, will have a total of 16 people (Top 2 from 8 different qualifiers within 2 or 3 hours of Tokyo area).

The first qualifier tournament was yesterday in Nakano, close to Shinjuku. There were 63 participants! It was single match/single elim, I lost second round to a Gaoh player.

There is another qualifier early next month at Beat Tribe so I’m going to try again at that one. Tenka is fun!! Yay!!!

Do you have to be from Japan to enter? Prolly not just curious. Might try and get the peeps to posse up and spread some S’3 love in Japan. Not like we got comp stateside :frowning:

Nope, anyone can enter, you just have to be there. There is a schedule for all of the qualifiers plus the final tournament here:

http://www.samuraispirits.x0.com/ev/yosen.htm

The last qualifier is right before the final tournament on December 4th
Signups at 2:00PM start time 3:00PM. Location for the last qualifier/finals is Shinjuku Sportsland.

The 11/3, 11/20 and 11/27 tournaments are all very close to central Tokyo so you could try at those if you guys will be around then. Let me know if you need any more details.

…and what the tiers ATM?

From what I saw, the best characters right now look like Basara and Mina. HOWEVER I think all of the characters are pretty good, none of the characters have a lack of really abuseable okizeme.

Basara’s fireball is super good though–I watched an excellent Basara player take out the guy that beat me and he looked pretty unstoppable. Fireball after a knockdown, mix-up, and if your mix-up doesn’t work out the fireball would get to the opponent right when they would have been able to punish him. His fireball is pretty similar to Oro’s EX Fireball in Third Strike for those of you familiar with it. Also, super long range!

Same as Mina basically–her okizeme looked sick and super-safe, and she is excellent at zoning. I don’t think I could have beaten the Minas I saw if they stayed on the other side of the screen.

However, there was a HUGE variety of characters being used and many of them looked really good. There is currently no one that stands out that much above the rest.

There are three GROOVES that stand out among the rest, however–

Zero, Ten, and the groove where you can hold a super charge (can’t read it) seem like the best ones. There is another groove used a little less frequently where you can do a just-defense like action on the ground or in the air, which looks like it has potential but nobody has really utilized it yet. The other two grooves look pretty bad.

OK Thanks, and speaking of the grooves, can you elaborate more on them plz?

i wouldnt put basara high, his fb has actually been nerfed from 5/5spc where it moved slightly faster and curved down a little more. most of his moves leave him open unless used after an fb and he doesnt do much damage. hes pretty technical actually.

chamcham seems good as does amakusa, ukyo, yumeji + others.

earthquake deemed the lowest in japanese circles about 2 weeks ago has turned out to be mid at least with some beasting going on.

andrew is a little one dimensional and he might end up being lower tier when the tiers sort of settle into place.

every character has potential though if used well.

im best with charlotte.

good with nicotine and eq.

ok with basara, hao and andrew.

Any infinites discovered in that game? And does Nicotine still have his SS2 Infinite intact or is it now a pressure string??

I doubt there will ever be infinites in this game.

To beelzebub, what groove are you using with Charlotte? I have been switching back and forth in between Ten and Zero and I can’t decide which is better.

With Zero, I like the fact that you can roll back and cancel into either a QCB + Punch move or a sonic boom projectile. The thing is, after you jump in/roll back/nail them with QCB + Punch once or twice, they’ll get the idea and try jumping in to punish it, but at that point you can mix up with a sonic boom instead since you can use it as anti-air and also hold it until they jump or do something.

With Ten you can still dash back to keep yourself safe from throws and whatnot after a blocked jump-in, but of course you lose the charge for a sonic boom when dashing back so I like Zero a little bit better for the rolling. However, it seems like Ten is a much better groove for punishing mistakes, since you either get a free gatling combo OR better yet gatling into super if you have meter. It also has the convenient “Burst” feature for escaping a super combo or a Zero activation which would otherwise definitely end the round.

Let me know what you think~ !

Here I’ll say what characters are doing the best, granted this is NOT a good
indication since most of us are “favorite character whores” instead of tier whores.
MOST but not all, out of 10 samsho fanatics. I’m going to go by who wins the most
just about everyone uses Zero groove to be honest.

  1. Cham Cham
  2. Kusegerado
  3. Genan
  4. Mina
  5. Tam Tam

Thats our top 5. The top 3 characters are played by our best player, but Cham Cham and Genan rack up wins by everyone. I’m really the only Mina and Tam Tam player and damnit do I have to work for my wins. The swords man characters are very effective still and just about everyone has some trick do deal with everyone else. Honestly if it wasn’t for my freinds ridiculous yomi with Kuse, I’d say he’s one of the worst off due to the increased crossup ability in this game. (Just about everyone ends up grabbing Cham Cham to give the Kuse player pure hell here)

Holy shit, was one of the stages THE WHITE HOUSE?!! With Sousa’s Stars and Stripes march as the theme song?!

I want this game NOW!!

So for what we know what are the main things that separate Ukyo from Yumeji? And is Ukyo SS2 based? Bc if so then that explains his toptier-ness obviously…

I love the BGMs and don’t some of them have like a song playing during them?

ive not been paying much attention to the grooves… i was using the ss2 groove exclusively for a while but decided to use ten after reading the hint for it about how its good for aggressive players as you build bar fast by attacking… i noticed it seems to build bar much faster (when i use it anyways) so im sticking with it for the moment… im not really missing the ss2 weapon break with the super either.

ive started using kazuki, hes great and far less limited than before, his two new moves have rounded him out really really well!

one is an attack where he does a flying jump kick (goes over ground projectiles!) and if it hits he kicks you in the head 10 times or so like a stomp and backflip kicks off you. the other is his “running on fire” animation from his old super where he used to run at you and explode. it moves really fast and is good for catching ppl off guard while being safeish. combos easily too.

Question-how are the bosses rounded out…many say Mizuki is “gay” define that, does that mean she is overpowered? Or is she based off her weak SSVSP self? If everyone is based of their SSVSp self then that means ZANKURO IMMEDIATELY RISES TO GOD TIER YET AGAIN CORRECT? Makes him hands down the best character in the game.

And people please tell me more about “Ankikou” the Final Boss…WTF?? That’s lame IMHO, SNK takes someone that is really GAOHS FINAL FORM and then makes him the boss, if he has the same damn moves as Gaohs morph form then that is gay, not what I was expecting from the Last Samurai Shodown boss, I was expecting something more, he had better be tough, at least much tougher than NEOWAVE GEESE, he was harder in the arcade than the PS2 version for sure, I hope he is tough as nails.

Also, does anyone have an English translation of the storyline just yet? I am curious what is going on…Come on, we can’t have a BADASS FINAL SS GAME WITHOUT A GREAT FINAL BOSS.
