Cyclohexane simultaneously boils and freezes

Didn’t know where else to post this, Joe Rogan had the powerful Graham Hancock on his podcast show. Apparently there is evidence to suggest that the Great Pyramids is much much older than previous thought, by 1000’s of years. He suggests that it was built by a civilisation that was wiped out by a great flood and ice age (possibly where these stories of Noah originated from).

Blew my mind, sounds very credible, it’s also very interesting to hear how the scientific community attacked the guy who made this discovery and theory.

Well I’ve heard theories that The Sphinx is actually a few thousand years older than the Pyramids of Giza, but this is news to me.

Yeh they start off talking about the Sphinx, and how it seems that all the other pyramids are poorly constructed compared to the oldest, this indicates that people without the technology and engineering knowhow were building them, which wouldn’t have happened unless the original creators left or died off without passing on that knowledge.

I hope you (american) guys aren’t missing the lunar eclipse going on now!

Has anybody here checked out superstringtheory.com?

I’m a huge fan of sites like that, where theory is compiled and then distilled, for free, for public knowledge. In a truly perfect world, and my vision of how humanity is going to advance into its next phase, at some point resources are no longer going to be an issue and the manpower currently being wasted on menial, trivial work simply to benefit the elite few would instead be re-focused on useful pursuits, or at least in the pursuit of happiness.

Anybody have some other sites like that? Wikipedia works fairly well now, but dedicated sites are usually best.

I was a huge fan of genetics back in undergrad. But time constraints and popular knowledge at the time about what specializations pre-med students should take kind of pushed me away from that. It was either genetics or ecology that I was truly interested in, and I am really only good at things when I have an interest. Turns out, those fields became hot, and I guess I missed the boat on it, but also it’s very possible I would have just gotten stuck as a graduate slave if I went through with it anyway (as was recounted above by another poster). At least as a lawyer I’m relatively free I suppose, even though I personally think that field blows too.

An episode of Cosmos recognized important achievements by female scientists, which was both good and sobering, as women’s scientific achievements are often ignored or downplayed.

Computer simulation visualises the history of the Universe

That Jesus made the real thing without a computer surely makes him worthy of his legendary status huh

Putting Cosmos on Fox was a truly brilliant idea. The belly of the ignorant beast is finally being exposed in a good way.

America (and Canada) is a free country. You’re allowed to say the Earth is flat. But you’re not allowed to be right.

That is why creationists are not allowed on Cosmos. They’re not right. They’re not real scientists and don’t have any evidence proving their viewpoint.

Canada says they have built the first quantum home computer, for the low low price of $15M

I volunteer to have these roboflies improve my body from the inside out.

Haha may, the military application will be invaluable.

Interesting article from Gizmodo, Fermi Paradox is kinda depressing, chances of finding life in the universe is ridiculously tiny, the chances of finding intelligent life is even smaller.

If we were to ever be in contact from other intelligent life, I would wager they would be the ones to find us.

Well as the article states there are reasons we might not have found any or been found. And when you have those reasons in place I do not understand how you can assign a percentage chance going forward.

Right now we are only able to measure 4 dimensions. We know there are probably at least 11 or 26. When we have such a large gap in our tech and are still seeking to basically pull ourselves out of a primitive age I don’t see why it’s so surprising if we can’t detect other life or are being avoided by other life that would have that technology.

I like the super predator theory too, and some of the cowardice of not broadcasting anything out there. I remember when I was a kid if you thought there might be extraterrestrial life you were thought to be stupid and/or insane. You can see people beginning to consider it now, and people in general are beginning to understand just how stupid and primitive our knowledge is.

The only way I would believe there is no other intelligent life out there is if there is an omnipotent God that created us and thus we are the only life out there. That is not to say there can’t be God and other intelligent life, but I just can not ever buy that we are the only intelligent life in a randomly created universe. That smacks of the same type of human egotism that insisted the Sun revolves around the Earth and that the Anglo-Saxons are the center of the universe.
